This year they added a twist by making the auction online. I think it was a hit. The festival is usually the third weekend in September. Put it down on the calendar, it's a great time!

I thought the bands I heard Saturday were good, and I had some very good BBQ, as well as some outstanding potato pancakes. I heard the firehouse chili was very good. Missed the trannies in pleather skirts, though! The people watching is one of the best things about this event! Only in Hamtramck. :) I appreciate the line of security that keeps people with alcoholic beverages out of the carnie/kiddie area. The porta-potty situation was ridiculous. As a veteran of several art shows, I know they can do better! The city's new events coordinator will need to take a read over here.

Rode the horse draw carriage, and there was a musician/singer on board leading us on in carols. Went through about half the houses and exhibits. This is really a fascinating place! The carousel, which was a ball. By the time we got to wear the model T ride started, we were kind of wet and getting a bit tired. The one was that horrible, but we decided to skip it. They did not have the fireworks this night because of the rain. I'm from out of town, but that how you recommend people this area to make this part of their holiday event.

But we were well dressed for it was the weather and had a great time. Entered right at 6:30 and got in line for the horse drawn carriage. The woman playing music and singing Christmas carols on the ride was delightful. We walked all around and ate yummy mini donuts. They were sold out of roasted chestnuts, which was disappointing. They were having model T rides, but the line was longer than we wanted to wait in. Went through Menlo Park and several of the Edison buildings. Enjoyed seeing the Wright brothers workshop as well as their home. All of the tour guides for lack of a better word were dressed in period clothes and we're quite knowledgeable. And they were all very, very friendly and willing to answer questions. Next year, I would consider doing one of the special dinners. Pay attention to win tickets go on sale. Some of the dinner sell out fast.

Inside, lines were not long, tents shielded us for the most part and we had more tokens than we could possibly use. I wish only that each brewery had a rinsing or dumping site. There were no places to dump a sample if it was not to your liking. Some of my favorites were Canton Brew Works and Dark Horse's spicy offerings.

It really is easy to find something for everyone at the fair. This year in particular was bananas. I came on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed. I had heard that they surpassed the entire weekend attendance from last year (5,000) in just one day on Saturday. Like I said, bananas. But the vibe is so good and positive that it doesn't feel uncomfortably crowded and the shoppers aren't rude or pushy. Just one big feel good shopping party. But it may be time to expand the space. Which is never a bad problem to have, I think? To keep growing. Just goes to show you how much love and support there is for handmade, local gifts in this town. I love it!

There is a large jail, police stations, court, and a beautiful large library. If you pop in downtown, it reminds me of royal oak. There's sidewalk and cute small shops to stop in. I haven't had the chance to visit many of the shops, but I look forward to. They do have some construction going on towards that area, depending on where you are coming from. I might stop by near the spring, when it isn't so cold. My favorite thing about Mt Clemens is driving through some of the streets near the center. There are gorgeous homes that are absolutely stunning. I kove looking at different styles of homes and colors.

I remember when as a kid I learned about how Christopher Columbus sailed up the Clinton River to…read moreland near the Farmer's Market and enjoy cider -n- donuts, then he and his merry band of men walked up into town and enjoyed one of the many mineral baths that were proliferant in the day. I enjoyed the 3rd Annual Columbus Day Parade. I hadn't been to one of these in probably a year or so! It was nice to see the marching bands from the area schools and social clubs. Also nice to see local politicians shaking hands with the spectators. Mount Clemens continues to provide great venues for family-friendly activities throughout the year. They always decorate for the season, placing overhead banners announcing the various activities throughout the year. I look forward to the day after Thanksgiving when Santa Claus arrives during the parade.

Pig and Whiskey is a great time-beers, BBQ, and great music. The festival takes place every year in…read moreFerndale in mid-July. The stage for music is located right next to WAB and beer and whiskey tents are set up in the parking lot behind WAB, The Emory and surrounding restaurants. Admission is free and you can bring your own bottled water with you. It's also a dog friendly event and lots of people walk their dogs around the fest. You purchase tickets at designated tents similar to Arts Bears and Eats. Tickets are $2 a piece. Most beers are about 3 tickets and whiskeys are between 4-7 tickets. I usually start with a sheet of tickets for $20 but you can buy as few or many tickets as you like but they are non-refundable. Food vendors for the BBQ portion were located further down, past the whiskey and beer vendors this year. Surprisingly BBQ/food vendors only accepted cash or credit this year and didn't accept tickets which was kind of annoying because last year they only took tickets and wouldn't take cash and I wish they had posted that somewhere before I had bought extra tickets. The food is good. I had BBQ ribs from Bad Brad's BBQ with a Mexican style watermelon salad with cojita cheese and cilantro which was light and refreshing. Their Pig Candy-candied bacon is delicious! There were lots off BBQ vendors with pulled pork sliders and tacos, ribs, mac and cheese, jalapeño cornbread, and Cheeto covered street corn. Picnic tables were all the way at the other end of the festival this year and it would be nice if there was seating near the food tents. Lots of great beers too from Dogfish Head, Griffin Claw, Shorts, B. Nektar and more. They have whiskey from Jack Daniels, Jameson, Old Forster, Four Roses, Woodsford Reserve, and more. Last year they had some tents that mixed craft cocktails with whiskey and bourbon. I had a Woodsford Reserve mint julep that was amazing and a pineapple upside down cake cocktail with brown sugar bourbon mixed with pineapple juice that was delicious. This year I didn't see many cocktails, just strait whiskey or bourbon or you could add a a mixer but mixers were only limited to lemonade or Faygo soda. The main reason I go every year is for the music. A friend and I love Electric Six and we attend to see them perform every year. Electric Six has closed out the festival on Sunday night for the last six or seven years. They always put on an awesome show. Last year there were torrential downpours and they had to call the festival due to rain, so lots of people got stuck with drink tickets which were non-refundable. However they didn't cancel the music and moved Electric Six's set down to The Loving Touch and it was a really great show. This year we also saw Ann Arbor band Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers who are a lot of fun to see. Verve Pipe also played on Friday night. The festival runs Friday through Sunday. It starts at 6 pm on Friday and around noon on Saturday and Sunday and goes until midnight with music ending at around 9:00 on Sunday. I always have a blast and I'll definitely be back next year.
