What can I say? No one 'wants' to be in hospital but…read more..... Where to start...parking. Yes there is parking. Yes you pay for the privilege to park, and they are not shy about their fees! At least they have a garage so that's something. Just my opinion but, the parking needs to be improved. A lot. Getting in and out of the car park is akin to a juggling act on a trapeze. Terrible and dangerous and whoever designed it should be ashamed......as should the powers that be that approved it. The fees are exorbitant, in my opinion, so if you're on a tight budget, think twice. *This is my only complaint thus, deducted 1star. The public and private facilities are adjacent to each other even though your gps might show you two separate addresses. I don't want to sound like I'm gushing here but, as hospital experiences go, this was excellent! Really! The lobby and reception areas are clean, bright and friendly staff. The day surgery waiting area is light, has chair seating and usually runs like a well oiled machine. Friendly staff members understand you're there for a procedure and probably nervous...and they are friendly and smiling and make it a little better, as smiles do! Once ready for procedure, while it can be redundant they asked several times pertinent questions, which was great because I had concerns that they helped to alleviate somewhat. Fast forward to an overnight recovery and the nurses are incredible, friendly and caring. 'My' nurses included Michelle and DJ. To be honest, they deserve kudos on every level! The food was better than hospital food, better than airplane food and I want to give credit where credit is due....but don't expect it to be 5star restaurant quality because you'll be disappointed. All in all, as hospital stays go, St Vincent's is really wonderful! Runs like a well oiled machine, clean and beautiful, and more importantly to me, excellent staff members, non-medical and medical. If they can improve anything, it would be the car park.

My visit here was very positive! The directions were easy to follow but if you need assistance finding your way, every staff member is happy to help you and very friendly. From the Barker Street entrance just follow the purple path to the elevator, go to the 2nd floor and continue on until you see the sign that says Billington Centre. Easy peasy. Sheree schedules appointments and also checks you in upon arrival. Due to Covid, scheduling was dramatically impacted so I'm guessing Sheree fielded lots of frantic or distressed people wanting to know when they could schedule their procedure. Sheree is friendly and professional and helpful and calm(!). I applaud her and thank her! This unit has several nurses and members of staff, all kind and friendly. Stephen Butler!!! I don't know if I kept him laughing or if he kept me laughing but, I can not thank him enough for his professionalism, friendliness, too. Gareth and Stephen have a fantastic rapport with each other and it radiates to everyone else. Gareth gave me my post-procedure information and instructions, also answered my questions and another friendly face of this unit. Dr Sorayya is the anaesthetists' intern who explained everything, what to expect, and answered all my questions. Naturally, each member of this well coordinated team followed up with me afterwards, making sure I was doing alright. I was pleasantly surprised to have a follow up phone call from Stephen the day after my procedure. The teamwork and professionalism exhibited deserve kudos to every member of this team and of the unit as well as the Billington Centre. Turns what might be an unpleasant experience into a better experience. Thank you Billington Centre and even bigger thank you to Stephen Butler and Gareth (nurses), Sheree and Sorayya.

One of my very close friends (hi Sal!) just punched out a baby (hi Raphael!) and, until I can find him a red eyemask and a pair of sai as a welcome to the world gift, I swung by P.O.W. Private for a visit. For such a monolithic complex it's remarkably easy & straightforward to park, navigate and get where you're going. From car to kisses was about 3 minutes, with a 1 minute break to help a blind man out the front of the sliding doors find a bench to sit down on. The rooms are clean, well-appointed, the nurses nicely starched, and everything had an air of well-looked-after-ness. In place of the jello and custard my patient event had a fresh chicken salad sitting in her food table - hospital vittles have come a long way. Even got to see a bit of boob in the new baby feeding room. Of course, I'm sure they're paying for the privilege, but still. Schmick.

After the birth, my placenta did not come out complete, gynaecologist Ludmilla Collin came to do a manual removal at the birth bed but it didn't go well and I was in a lot of pain as there was only gas given as the painkiller, later on that afternoon I was sent to the theatre for the second round of manual placenta removal by the same doctor with epidural. After 2days stay I was then dismissed from the hospital, only a day later I experienced massive on going bleeding, maternity pads filled full with bright blood every 20-30 min so I went straight to the emergency that evening. Much later on I got checked by a very young Indian gynaecologist she said it wasn't active bleeding just retained old blood and disappeared for the night. That night I was frequently catching baseball size coagulated blood and kept on filling up pads with blood and i spent the night with my new born on the emergency bed. By the third day I was finally sent to have a D&C (placenta removal with guided ultrasound...I wonder why it didn't happen in the last two times!) where I waited a further 4hrs at the surgery door. Because I choose to sleep during my operation, the anaesthetist need to put in an arterial needle. The anaesthetist is Christopher Yong he accidentally pricked himself with the same needle used on me he then demanded to take more blood from me just to find out if I am diseased so that he aren't effected but those results would have been recorded in my blood tests during my pregnancy and can be easily accessed (results for HIV, hepatitis etc.) and of course I agreed to give the blood to him, he seemed agitated. When he finally tried his best to put the needle in my artery vein on my wrist, somehow after the needle was put in i felt something warm on my hand and flowing and it was my blood pumping furiously out through the uncapped end! I really thought I was not going to make it alive in that theatre! The operation left me with a very painful throat lasted 5weeks and two loose front teeth! 8weeks on I had two ultrasounds for the post operation checkup and confirmed there is something left in my uterus and need further investigation possibly another operation guided with hysteroscope. According to the top gynaecology professor in St George I was just the unlucky 1% to have these happened to me, but I would like to say that unlucky 1% happened to me for 3 times at St George public hospital! I really think "unlucky" should not be the word to use to cover up their incompetency and handball the responsibilities! Furthermore overall there should have been two cannula needles (once during birth, once when I admitted at ED) but a total 11 tried was made on both my hands, arms and even on one foot! At RPA for my first birth was just once and got in! Should I say I get lucky there?

The old admissions building is the main entrance with a huge newer addition at the back. Thankfully you cannot knock it down because it's historically valuable being built in 1880. I think we are fortunate to have free access to hospital care and I for one am grateful to this hospital.My grandson was born at King George V which is attached to RPA. My personal care was great. I'm not a fan of hospital food anywhere and the food there is no exception. They have a food court and that's a plus.

The parking on the street is all for doctors who have a parking station nearby. The hospital is badly designed, it needs to be rebuilt. I would love to see a health minister spend a week there, the food is atrocious, no provision for special diets. Food is all frozen and no kitchen prepare food for patients on site. The staff are rushed off their feet, but they also neglect hygiene needs of patients. I had to visit my husband in ICU, I can't believe that patients are just shoved in any space available. It would have to be the last hospital I would ever go to. ZERO STARS FROM ME.

The synchronised crying game is rather entertaining.. one starts, then it's like a mexican wave of babies sympathy crying. Amazeballs. The nurses & doctors are just lovely. I come to this clinic for almost 10 years to see a doctor that is very competent and professional…read more Today, I had to come for a simple prescription as mine had finished and I had the worst experience with the receptionists that I ever had in a medical facility. The were extremely rude, cold and using sarcasm to say that if I want to wait it will be one hour or I can walk away. The other one said to me that she is not particularly polite when I asked about their rudeness. I'm not here to get anything for free. I'm here because all of my medical history is here and I needed my prescription. I will have to say goodbye to my doctor as I don't intent to come back here to be treated as rubbish when I'm sick and in a vulnerable position. It looks like that most of the admin staff are family or friends so, why bother to reach out to them. There is a big sign that they don't tolerate abuse and they are the one abusing people there.
