This station is on the Liverpool to Wigan line very good you it is below road level but it is a…read moreramp down so it suitable for wheelchairs and prams. It is a staffed station so you feel quite safe and you can ask questions, but the booth is only on the Liverpool side not the Wigan side. There is a small car park that gets filled quickly and early in the morning. The trains are regular and there is a bus stop right outside that goes in to St Helens.

It's well looked after, clean, the staff are friendly, and as Isabel has pointed out it has heated waiting areas which is always a plus in the colder months of the year. :) I don't think there are any shops around here worth shopping at, though, if I'm completely honest. If you need a newsagents or something, sure, but otherwise don't bother.

Lea Green Station is a small railway station located in St Helens, this is the only stop on the…read moreTranspennine Express route from Manchester Victoria to Liverpool Lime Street after the route changed in early 2018, which is the fastest mode of transportation (ahead of any train or car) between the two cities. The station is operated by Northern, where it is also on the Liverpool to Manchester line, however, this route is a slow service which calls at numerous stations within Manchester and Merseyside along the way, which includes St Helens Junction nearby. It is a category E station which is actually the largest category of railway stations in terms of how many stations are category E, but it is one of the fewest in terms of passenger numbers and is the smallest category of staffed stations you could get. I would say it is nicer than other similar/small stations, it seemed reasonably clean, however, I would say the staff at the station seemed rude and unhelpful and merely pointed when I asked for the exit and refused to help take me to the station taxi rank (I had to get a taxi onto Manchester due to the lifts being out of order at Victoria and the railway company promised to ensure everything was okay with my taxi) This station is step-free but the access is pretty poor as it's multiple long ramps again, albeit not as bad as Horwich Parkway, it still is a good walk which reminds me of a station much older than it actually is. 2* - In terms of appearance and cleanliness it is one of the nicer category E stations but services still remain very minimal and I'd hate to be here for too long in the dark/rain due to a lack of lights and cover and the staff being rude/unhelpful at the station doesn't help either.

Wigan North Western is one of two stations serving Wigan town centre, the station is managed by…read moreAvanti West Coast, who run services from this station on the Glasgow Central/Edinburgh Waverley - London Euston line, which provides services into Scotland, Birmingham, London and others. The station is also served by Northern, with limited services by TPExpress: this means you can also get into other towns and cities including Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, St Helen's and Blackpool. The station is fairly basic, but it is only a small category B station with 5 active platforms, an underpass with lift/stair access connects the platforms. I was surprised that this station didn't have ticket-gates, and there were no staff until getting to the platform, but the staff did seem friendly and happy to help, there was also a good amount of seats and a waiting room in the place, where you can wait before boarding a service. The facilities inside the station are minimal, but with it being a short walk away from the town centre (I like the map outside which gives you a rough time and direction to get to the DW Stadium and town centre), this isn't too bad. Bus services also stop outside. 3* - Nothing too excited, pretty average station, which provides a good number of services which is better than many towns of a similar size to Wigan gets.

I called at Hindley Station on the way to Wigan Wallgate on a Northern Service from Manchester…read moreVictoria, and reacted in awe at the beautiful gardens at this station, making it more of a national park than a train station, put together by volunteers it helps make this station a nice place to visit and relax, even if you're not catching a train and helps make actually getting a train more pleasant. This station has 2 platforms which are in use, with trains mainly going into Wigan and Manchester, and the garden on Platform 1 is great, going in the direction of Wigan and then onto Southport, which was the route of my Northern service. Hindley is one of the local Stations in Wigan, so you can't expect too much from a "local" station, but for a local station this is great, and even the larger stations such as Wigan North Western and Wallgate could learn a few from Hindley! Hindley is also wheelchair accessible with ramp access making it a good place to catch a train without being forced to get in a taxi to your next stop, and it is nice to see this local station having step-free access as some stations close to me in Manchester, such as Mills Hill which is also run and operated by Mills Hill does not. As a train station, they isn't lots of services here but the work on the grounds makes this a really nice station to relax, and even could be a place to visit without catching a train, thanks to the fantastic work by volunteers, so definitely deserves a solid 3 stars, sadly I can't go any higher as its' main purpose is a train station and for this, it is just basic and barely average.

A well served station for interconnecting bus routes. I arrived at the station by bus, with plenty…read moreof time to spare to get the first train in the morning. The platform is quite simply too small. The locals (mostly women) all arrive at the very last minute, & then attempt to get on the train BEFORE people who have been waiting 20 minutes. They then sit next to their bags, taking up two seats, & staring blankly into their mobile phones for the duration if the journey, like the socially programmed sheeple of the brainwashed masses that permeate todays society. Use at your peril. If commuting I would reccomend staying on the bus until Pemberton, a slightly longer walk, & getting on the train there.

The location is good, just a couple minutes away from the town's main shops. All services are run by Northern Trains who operate the station, mainly serving "local" destinations including Manchester, Bolton, Blackburn and Southport. The station facilities are minimal but it does have a waiting area, where you can keep warm ahead of getting a train. The station is clean in most areas. The staff were OK. Step-free station so they do have lift access etc, I like the station from the outside as it looks pretty unique and different as you can see from photos. 3*
