The gifted program class sizes were small, which made it for a better 1:1 learning environment for the kids. Not sure how funding between EBR schools are allocated, but I just wish this school got more funding for some improvements on the school and for some additional school activities and programs. She enjoyed her time here. The school had a very diverse student body which made it nice for kids to learn about different backgrounds. We would have left her here, but she got into another school that offered just a bit more. This is a lovely neighborhood school that is more in not on any main road, which made it easier during carpool times. If you are looking into EBR Gifted program and get a space here, definitely come here!

Prior to my recent visit I had never been to the school before. I attended 5th grade graduation on the last day of the 2013-2014 school year and I was impressed with the effort made by the staff to make the children feel like they had achieved a milestone. My niece's teacher in particular took time when calling each student to speak about their strengths and the types of professions she anticipates they will develop into. Each child was made to feel special and tons of families were there to support the children and teachers. The little guy has so much fun at school, he couldn't wait to go back. Very professional staff who make the learning environment fun and exciting. My son is 3 learning Spanish, French, and Chinese. He enjoys the languages. Its funny when we are out and he hears someone speaking one of these languages, he just goes right over and strikes conversation. People are shocked. The faculty is caring and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is being done for students to be successful. A rigorous and challenging curriculum with a wide variety of electives. Even though advertised as an academic magnet, they have a performing arts program second to none. Three levels of band and also jazz band. Three levels of choirs and a performance show choir. Thee levels of string orchestra, dance, drama, and piano classes. Also offers athletic programs like swim team, soccer teams, basketball and volleyball teams, and track teams. Students can join one of over 30 clubs to participate in. School is ranked number 1 academically in the district and is one of the top five middle school programs in the state. Sherwood has also gained national recognition being awarded a National Blue Ribbon School. It was recently honored as one of 12 schools nationally as a model school.
