Now I dont know who they do that through at the time. But it wasnt with the police dept. He approached me telling how on my background check that it said I had got into trouble for theft. I was shocked and mad! I knew this was not true! I asked him the name of the company. He wouldnt tell me! I asked for a copy of said report ( because by law I am allowed to have a copy ). And never would anyone give me a copy of it. At the same time I went to the police dept. They ran a background check on myself and there was nothing ! Nothing at all! I gave Neil the copy they printed for me asked again for a copy of what he had and the name of the company. He still wouldn't produce anything for me! We do appreciate that he uses the Bible to back up everything that he teaches. With that said the Church's response (or lack there of) to our experience with a member of the congregation is absolutely deplorable, and sounds eerily similar to other's experiences. This needs to be called out and addressed and most importantly others need to be made aware of this, especially prospective new attendees. My family and I had been attending NGC regularly for the past year or so. We always enjoyed the message and praise and worship, and felt the church was welcoming. Then end of 11/2025, we suffered a very troubling experience with a fellow attendee. We arrived to the 10:30 AM service about 15 minutes into the singing (sermon had not began as of yet). 3 of us noticed some empty seats in the upper left section. Went over and asked the gentleman sitting closest to end if those seats were taken. He looked over at me (we are interracial couple)...and loudly said "you are late." I was dumbfounded and thought he was joking. I said "huh?." He repeated himself and said "you are 20 minutes late." Shook his head in anger/annoyance and let me and my wife and young son through. During this 1 minute exchange not one person in the congregation said anything they just stared at us and him. We sat there with our first thought that we need to leave immediately. Then after further reflection we decided "no" we wont let one unhappy/hurtful person ruin our worship. We were there to praise God. We sat through...as soon as the sermon was over this individual immediately took off without a word. That night I went on the NGC website to try to contact either Pastor Andrew or Pastor Ryan (he had spoken that day). We found this odd and disheartening, as other churches we had been to always allowed their pastors to be accessible. Neither of them had their email address or phone number available on the NGC website. Instead there was a general inquiry email contact. I sent out a message to this alias. The message we got from the Office Assistant 2 days later was "Thanks for your email. I understand you would like to get in contact with Pastor Ryan or Pastor Andrew regarding an incident from yesterday. If you could give a little more detail, that would be helpful for me to figure out who would be best to put you in contact with. Please feel free to call Thanks!" I wrote back that we had to hear back from the pastoral team regarding our concerns. Additionally a lot of what we heard from both pastor Ryan and pastor Andrew was how it is integral to the church community/pastoral team to connect regarding any concerns or for council. Accordingly we found the lack of response/accessibility of your pastoral team to be quite troubling. What my family and I experienced on Sunday at NGC was very concerning and despite the size of NGC, we just assumed it would be treated with the same level of concern as the Pastoral team. We were then told to speak with the Congregational Care Pastor despite our insistence that we wanted to speak with pastors who's message we heard every Sunday. The Pastor however apparently had an email that didn't work (despite the church having the technology live stream all their services). We followed back up with the Front Office Assistant on 1/5 as following sermon from Pastor Ryan about how we as a Church are compelled by God to be welcoming to all and to compel unlikely guests to enter God's great banquet, we were again reminded of the discouragement we felt that the Church's message on Sunday did not match with Church's actions. We reiterated that when we first attempted to contact Pastor Andrew/Pastor Ryan back on 11/30, we were disappointed by the lack of response/accessibility to the individuals we hear every Sunday espousing the value of accessibility and being available for council/advice to the Congregation. Following Pastor Ryan's latest message regarding being Welcome/Inviting as a church, we continue to feel repercussions from the event from 11/30 and the inability for us to still not have a meeting with Pastor Andrew or Pastor Ryan to discuss our concerns, is very disappointing. The response we got on 1/14 was the most telling about how this church handles concerns with their attendees. Again the Front Office assistant wrote... "Pastor Andrew and Pastor Ryan have very limited availability to meet. Pastor Darryl is the most appropriate person to meet with you and is well positioned to listen to your concerns and work toward addressing them. If you would like to proceed, you may contact him directly." Very very disappointed in this Church and lack of response/care. I wanted to take the time to put this review together to warn others of the Church's response to situations and their need to gatekeep their pastors.

The first time you go you'll notice someone will seek you out immediately and welcome you so warmly you will absolutely be back. But you'll never see that person again after the first visit- you will however notice that exact same woman seeking out any new comer every single service and doing the same special greeting. To make you feel like you've made a friend. She will not tell you she's associated to the church but you'll find out later on which will make you feel manipulated. This church also says Jesus never said anything about homosexuality but they personally believe it was not his will do they do bring in people to speak about turning away from temptation and if you are in a same sec relationship they will seek you out to get you away from it and they'll use you as an example and speak about you so that they can keep you away from it and feeling guilted into being straight or actually just single forever not acting on your "sin" They have a scary amount of security and once they've started to manipulate you if they feel that you aren't going with what they want the security will start following you around, sitting behind you during service. Super creepy and weird. The even pastor and his wife and the clique they have are the best actors and actresses you might ever meet in your life. They are actually all really mean, cold and impersonal but they put on a good show in front of everyone. It's also a franchise church so they are doing what they are told they are not leading by what they believe gods word is, they are following along with the church who signs the pay checks. If you believe in the lgbtq community stay far far away from here. Like run. Music is really good though.

However, I feel a strong conviction that there are things that need to be said and expressed about what is going on at Vancouver Church. That the congregation needs to step up, as contributors and individuals who call this place home and who graciously serve and pour their time and resources into an organization that only can continue because these people who faithful provide. Without them and the Lord's provisions, there would be no Vancouver Church. I called Vancouver Church church home for over a year. I had immediately been brought into the volunteer ranks (guilted in some ways, but not really. I do really feel that it is our responsibility as believers to be serving at the churches we call home) and was all of a sudden considered a leader. None of which is necessarily a bad thing. The concern that began to stem from this, early on, was that feedback, training and any kind of development was never provided. This concerned me. When the item was brought up, it was said that it was my responsibility to take my development into my own hands and that there was a future direction and desire to hopefully building up leaders (basically in my mind, discipleship), but that they were focusing on building up the core team of VC first. That's great, but shouldn't we be disciplining everyone. That's kind of our mission as Christians, right!?! However, rather than being discipled, it seem more important to burden more and responsibilities on volunteers and support staff (of whom do not get paid industry standard fair wages), but never really getting the relational component of Christianity. Slowly, it became apparent that the leaders here (paid senior staff and board) seemed more vested an interested in the newest and greatest program, spending large amounts of money on advertisements, decorations, etc. rather then asking some very hard questions and dig into a very simple question: "What does God want for me as a Leader and for Vancouver Church?" And reevaluating their staff positions, strategically to ensure that the right people are in the right jobs and are getting paid fair wages, which enable them to actually support and live. I know not any church is perfect. There is no perfect church and if you think you are in a perfect church, that probably is the problem. We are all flawed and broken and won't see perfection until we are reunited with our savior. I hope that this isn't just read and discarded and seen as a review out of anger or one sidedness and of someone that doesn't know the inner workings of what is really going on. In all honestly, I don't. However, I was close enough to see a lot and my expeirence as a fellow "leader", if that is what you want to call me, was troublesome. I am hurt. I am sad, that the people who told me that they loved me and that they cared, haven't reached out to me once since I departed. Not because of what is and was going on at Vanoucer Church, but because God had other plans for my life. If I If we are to be the church that God is calling us to be, shouldn't we be about authentic, real, relationships? We should be living out what is preached. We shouldn't only be talking to someone because they have something that you need or a skill that can fill a gap. We should step away from our desires/needs. We all have them, but we are called to take up our crosses daily and follow Jesus. I pray and I hope that in all of this, you know that I mean well for Vancouver Church. I pray for success and for Jesus to be glorified in all that you do. That you can become the church that doesn't care about what the senior service thinks about it. Don't get so worried that you are going to loose financial support from this group, but rather care more about God's vision for the body. If you obedient, he will reward. This isn't the church of the seniors. Be a united body, seeking after him. Don't let people fall through the cracks. Don't use people just because they are willing to do anything to help. Don't lead mission trips where you are more concerned about meeting a celebrity and buying a $7 coffee, rather than focusing on the mission of the project. Let's be an emotionally healthy church that is in tune with the spirit and living out God's desires and not our own. Make authentic relationships and seek people out. If anything at all is taken from this, know that I want the best for you and the people of Vancouver Church.
