As soon as the annual artist lineup for St Jerome's Laneway Festival (lovingly referred to usually as just "Laneway") gets released, indie kids all over Brisbane get in a tizz about the event which usually takes place at the end of January or early February. But don't let the indie bit scare you. Laneway, in my opinion, is the best music festival to hit Brisbane.
I have been a few years in a row, and every year it has grown a little more. Back in ye old days it was held in the laneway behind the Zoo (now Winn Lane) but outgrew the area and has since moved to the Alexandria Street section of the RNA Showgrounds. This is actually a little to my dismay because one of my favourite things about Laneway is that it's a bit more intimate and a easier to navigate than monstrous festivals like Big Day Out or Future Music. Hopefully it doesn't blow out too much!
Thanks to Laneway I have had the pleasure of seeing some fantastic live acts such as Gotye, Foals, Florence & The Machine, Mumford and Sons, Violent Soho, War Paint, Sarah Blasko, The XX, Local Natives, Yeasayer, Two Door Cinema Club, The Jezabels and heaps more. The people who organise the lineup every year deserve a big giant high five as far as I'm concerned.
If you're a fan of the indie music scene and want to go to a festival where you are guaranteed to have fun rather than battle crowds all day, then Laneway will be right up your alley (forgive the pun!). It makes for an excellent day and has never disappointed me! read more
