I came to St. John's to attend a session that allowed me to volunteer with children at the church. I worked all day (as an educator) and secured childcare so that I could attend. I spent a few extra minutes discussing our child's illness with his babysitter before leaving. When I arrived 10 minutes late (after driving 45 minutes), I was told I couldn't enter because video had already started. Not only was I unable to participate, I lost 2 hours with my son (who is sick, as I mentioned) for nothing after working all day and not seeing him, not to mention the wasted money paid to the babysitter.
This is supposed to be a house of God where people are welcomed. It deeply saddens me that this is the treatment I was shown in my
first visit to this church, and it makes me understand why people are turning away from Catholicism in favor or joining more inclusive sectors of the Christian faith.
Whenever I am asked about churches in the area, I will be sure to let people know to stay away from St. John's at all cost. read more
