Beautiful little church right outside of Salem's "downtown" area, such as it is anymore. Being part of services at a parish that is older than the United States is a pretty cool experience. The sanctuary is gorgeous, with huge Tiffany stained glass windows throughout. It also has an excellent organ that's about 70 years old with true exposed pipes that give out an amazing sound. The small choir also features some local professional musicians, and they perform interesting and unusual pieces, including semi-regular Evensong services. Due to its age, the surrounding graveyard, while small, is facinating with a number of Revolutionary era graves.The congregation has dwindled significantly in recent years, but those who remain are friendly and surprisingly socially open-minded, even by Episcopal standards. If looking for a place to worship in the Salem/Woodstown area, this is a good choice. read more

St John's Episcopal Church, Salem is one of the oldest churches in The Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey. We celebrated our 300th anniversary in 2022. We are a community of Christians who love Jesus and love you already. According to our understanding of the Love of God, the Compassion of Jesus, and the Power of the Holy Spirit. We recognize that all people are beloved. That all people are called and that all people are welcome to join in worship, leadership, and sacraments. We offer the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Marriage, Reconciliation (Confession) and Burial at the church as arranged by the priest. The Bishop presides over confirmation and ordination and these happen under their discretion. We celebrate Holy Communion/ Holy Eucharist weekly on Sunday at 8 am and 10:30 am and Wednesday at 12 noon. This schedule may change for Holy Days and dependent on priest's availability. Join us for our services which use the Book of Common Prayer as the guide. If you' like to learn more about our community of faithful people who worship, sing, learn, and serve the community of Salem and have done so for centuries- we invite you to visit us in person or online.
