By far the worst experience you can imagine. Barbaric! We were coerced into getting the baby induced by nurses threats. The 2 rooms were like refrigerators. Sooooo freezing. The dark lighting was creepy. We were told to stay longer based on the baby might get jaundice. To the point of saying the baby would probably be put into CHOC hospital. This hospital is NO place for a baby, NO place to have a baby. When I said " This hospital is no place for a baby, we're going home." The head started yelling at my daughter who got close to no sleep for two nights. They only wanted the baby longer for more $$$$$. They are hurting for $$$$. It's been 5 months and just got a bill that's bogus. This doctor never saw us! read more

I have visit the Emergency Room a number of times throughout the years. But today was the absolute worst. The main reason I was visiting this time was I have a VP Shunt and I was on my 7th day of headaches. The ER doctor made feel like I was wasting his time by being there. Normally the procedure is to take a ct scan and x rays to rule out any issues with the shunt. But this er doctor lackadaisical attitude toward the patient was unacceptable. I tried to show empathy for the ER staff but when you arrive at 1:30pm With your husband who has stage four cancer and a nose that has already been really bleeding for two hours, it's hard to know why they treat patients like this. And they showed no sympathy at all. He finally got in at 7:30 PM and his nose was bleeding the entire time. When I asked for a blanket , I was told he cannot have one until he got into a room. They would not even give me water even though the vending machine was broken so I couldn't buy any. I know they are busy but there has to be some sort of order to get in for more serious issues. My children were born at St Joe's. I loved the maternity staff but I will never go back to that ER. read more

I had w small head injury, and I had an extremely right shoulder pain after the collision. My right shoulder had a recent 2 month old surgery. This review is for the emergency room I visited them over the summer at my dads recommendation. I'm an insured individual who works very hard and even looked over my insurance to make sure everything would be covered and confirmed this hospital is in network with my Blue Shield health insurance. I did the typical test after test an average of three hour wait time come to find out it was just an ulcer. Dr Daniel Groomis sent me on my way with two prescriptions and a referral... Come to my my dismay a few weeks later I receive a bill of over $7500; I am expected to pay more than half of that bill and this is because this ER medical billing department billed me at a level 5 which is the highest severity of care. It does not make any sense because I did not come in there saying I was dying, I did not come in an ambulance, yet they billed me at the highest level so they could take the most amount of money from my insurance as well as myself! I have contacted their billing department numerous timee but they are refusing to negotiate, I've also requested them to review the billing level they also denied lowering the level from a 5 to a level 1...I've reached out via email to the CFO Eileen Hauble with no response. All I get is a sarcastic remark from there billing department saying they don't negotiate and please apply for financial aid. Let me ask you this how can I apply for financial aid when I'm a hard-working individual who provides insurance for myself & my family of course I will not qualify but you expect me to pay over $4000 for a three hour visit that didn't do anything for me other than two prescriptions and a referral, which is just outrageous! I believe this hospital is definitely price gouging and my next step is to report them to the department of California health insurance. I have been to the emergency room numerous times elsewhere and I've never received a bill more than $500. If I were you I would not visit this emergency room unless you have diamond or platinum insurance and it's 100% covered in the ER because let me tell you they will bill the maximum severity towards your insurance so they can get paid to compensate for all the people who are uninsured that visit this hospital! I am sure there isn't any one who truly likes going to the ER. I for sure fall in that category. Hospital visits makes me feel uneasy & it's always a nerve-wrecking experience. The only pleasant encounter I had was at the entrance of the hospital. I was in distraught, panicky, worried, anxious, heavy-hearted, teary-eyed bringing a family member here. The young girl there was super nice and sympathetic with my situation. She asked if she could give me a hug -- that made a huge difference & I'll never forget that. I never got her name nor saw her again since we didn't get out until hours later. If she ever reads this I do want to thank her & am very appreciative for her genuine care. Parking was a bit confusing, it looked like "valet" style. I thought you had to pay to park up front. So I circled around but couldn't find a closer public parking area. So I went back to the ER parking lot which turns out to be a self-park lot. After I told them my situation the parking attendee working there opened the parking arm for me to park in the lot. To make this a long story short, I got my family member checked-in & waited in the main ER waiting area until we were called in to be assessed. There must have been at least 15-20 people waiting. There are restrooms, vending machines and water fountain in the area. It's just a waiting game from then on. I must say waiting about 3.5 hours in total wasn't horrendous for a Saturday late afternoon. But obviously, sitting there waiting it felt much much much longer. The amount of worrying & stressing just builds up. The RNs and doctor was kind but really weren't comforting to engage with. They were quick for they had tons of patients to get through. Luckily my family member didn't have any broken bones or major concussion for X-rays & CT scans was conducted. Since family member didn't have insurance we didn't pay anything there up front and were billed a week later. So not cheap.... around $3500. Over all experience was good but not amazingly great. Now a hospital is not the place that I would usually review . But to be honest this hospital had not only the best emergency room fee I've but also the best facility . During a time like this the last thing we think about is a review but I have to say that St. josephs staff has gone above and beyond . My whole trip to the emergency room was 3 hours that includes wait time a blood transfusion and doctor visit . Dr. Jeffrey M Hughes is a rude, arrogant, and condescending person. He didn't do any blood work, or any work done for that matter. Yet, he had the audacity to go into the room I was in and be so rude and condescending. My feelings, emotions, and what I had to say didn't matter to Dr. Hughes. Instead, he said, you didn't have such and such ,(didn't do the full test to check for a stroke), then he said now you know (as to according to him what I have) in such a rude codecending manner ." How can someone diagnose without hearing about the symptoms, medical history, or do any lab work. I was in a very vulnerable state and pain. I do not recommend Dr. Jeffrey M Hughes, especially when we are at our most vulnerable. He clearly showed he does not care about his patients. Nobody deserves to be treated with such disrespect and a condescending manner . I have been seen at St. Joseph (Providence) ER in the past with decent experiences and this time it was not it and I don't plan to go there again. Thankfully, I had an appointment scheduled with my PCP since being seen by Dr. Hughes was a waste of my time and the interaction made me so upset due to the terrible and nonexistent bedside manner. Absolutely unacceptable how they treated my boyfriend today. He went in for severe lower back pain related to repetitive heavy lifting he does at work, and lethargy/feelings of weakness after not being able to get a timely appointment with a primary care doctor. He waited for several hours and saw the doctor and had blood taken, but then the doctor asked him why he was there and it wasn't an emergency. He refused to run any tests, including on the blood sample taken. No imaging of his back, no diagnoses of any of his concerns. It's like they thought he was drug-seeking or something-- he doesn't do any of that! I will be filing a report with the medical board about his experience with this awful, rude doctor. I can't believe that they would turn away someone in severe pain and not offer any help at all. He HAS insurance!! read more

The valet tonight (Sonny) was the most worst non-caring human to be working at an emergency drop off. Unfortunately I been living in an emergency for past two months with my father who is on PICC Line. This guy wanted to use his power and he said he could take my dad in and my dad is 87 years old in a PICC, unable to walk with stage 4 cancer on chemo with history of blood clot and CHF. He has just cut himself with profusely bleeding. He wanted me to leave him because he was pissed and cocky. No way he could help my dad and not even my dad knew what to do. I'm his family! He proceeded to show me his name tag and said he didn't care to report him. He had NO kindness or compassion to me or any others coming. Please St Joseph's do better for your patients. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect even if you're 87! Talk to patients and their families with kindness please even when everyone is stressed for loved ones. So upset with this treatment and we have great insurance. Next time I'll be at a different hospital for sure! I'm giving a 1star for check in gal. read more

I always go to oc global medical center, but they weren't taking any ambulance patients at the time cause were full. I would've needed to be taken by a family member for them to take me, so I ended up going to st. Joseph because I could've get up to go into car and I needed of the emt for them to take me in the carney. I still waited five hour to put in room still in the emergency floor and pass 8:00to be taken up to regular room. Was discharged with out them doing much for what I went in, I would've been taken care of faster at oc global medical center if they were full, and have better results for what I went in! read more

Last two visits to the emergency room very disappointed doctors definitely have lack of compassion and are just matter of fact as if they're only making sure you're not dying. They need to show a little bit more respect love care and compassion when somebody comes in suffering from some type of sickness. Just because you're not diagnosing what somebody is sick of, doesn't mean you can't show more respect and compassion and love. Went St. Joes the other day because of a UTI I'd had for 10 days and now had back pain with it. I usually go to UCI ER where I am treated with respect and compassion but decided to try St Joe's again since it's so close. Nurses were nice and no complaint. but the doctor was very brash and barely listened to me. He offered a drug which I told him made my heart race. He made a snort and said "that wasn't a side effect of that drug." geez there it is as a side effect on the info about that drug! I also said my primary who is chief of his dept said it was time for IV antibiotics now. He said he would only do that if I were to be admitted and stay overnight! Huh??? All in all a colossal waste of my time and a degrading experience where I was basically challenged on anything I said. This just served to remind me why I chose to switch to UCI ER. Not going back to St. joes. (loved how the loudspeaker came on with a prayer for us to listen to. Maybe they should be more Christian in their attitude toward patients. I gotta complement Emergency Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital Orange. When I arrived in the early AM suspecting a heart problem, there was unusually no waiting, got right in and cared for immediately. EKG only took moments, (all normal), even the chest X-ray rolled into my room, one minute, done. Some special moments: Whenever a Baby in Born in maternity upstairs, there is a Lullaby Jingle that plays throughout the hospital intercom! About 8:00 am, they have a Morning Prayer spoken over the speaker system! The Staff were all young, energetic, and friendly! read more

This is my first time going to the ER. I didn't have time to read any reviews - there are so many 1 star and terrible experiences. We came here on a Sat around 400 pm. The parking valet person showed us where to self park. We filled out a half page patient document and was then brought into the main ER patient waiting room (~15 minute wait). We waited another 20 minutes and was seen by a nurse (I think her name was Lillian). After this, my husband got his blood drawn and an EKG by Omar - all done within 20 minutes! I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly these things were done. This process and group of nurses and employees are great! Fast, efficient, pleasant and professional. Here comes the horror negative stories of the ER. We were then told to go back to the main waiting room- waited for another 1.5 hours. Brought back and waited another 30 minutes then filled out Insurance paperwork and paid the $100 Co pay. Spoke to two NP's who asked the same questions. Other reviews have stated how the staff here is condescending. Cena, an NP, gave me so much attitude when I asked why we are waiting so long to see a doctor. She kept saying "the doctor will be in shortly." Shortly means less than 5 hours! She also said why are giving me attitude when we have done tests and waiting for the results. My husband was also stunned at her attitude and responses to me. I hope her supervisor is made aware of this complaint and either gives her more training or replaces her. I will also make a formal complaint to the hospital. Patients who came AFTER us were treated and went home. 10pm and we are still here! My husband finally left at 1030pm! I went outside to get some fresh air as I can't accept this mediocre care and the rude treatment from the NP. I saw a guy urinate on the lawn, pick up a used Q-tip on the ground, put it in his ear then into his mouth. This place is a shit hole. I hope management reads these reviews and makes some major changes. Hoag, UC Irvine, Kaiser, Tenet and Memorial Care are other options. I won't be returning here and I definitely don't recommend it. read more

The first time I came here at the end of August I couldn't believe that this ER had such a low yelp review. My ER team consisted of Dr. Mittal, nurse CJ, and tech Michael. They were phenomenal at making sure my needs were addressed, that I had everything I needed, and most importantly that I was comfortable. I would give their team alone 5 stars. However, during my second trip to this hospital, it quickly became evident why the low rating. I realize that I came at a particularly busy time of day but despite being in level 10 pain and sobbing through the pain and trying to quiet myself down by biting into a towel, I waited and waited. It was about 4-5 hours before I made it to a bed. However, once there it seemed like the staff had forgotten about me. I barely saw my nurse, who did only the bare minimum. After hours of waiting in excruciating pain I finally saw a doctor who wanted to admit me and assured me she placed the orders for my medications. However, once she left I never saw her again. The following shift change did not care or understand the great deal of pain I was in. They didn't bother reading my chart or the notes. The only med that temporarily helped my pain was Dilaudid. The morning shift nurse that came in hours after that saw me sobbing and crying from severe pain since my meds had worn off by then. I was offered one Norco. And told I'd get a second if it didn't help. Doesn't take a doctor or even a genius to figure out it didn't help. The second Norco was never offered to me. Instead I was faced with increased rudeness by the staff. The more pain I had and the more I sobbed, the more I was ignored. The nurse kept coming by to shut my door, rather than ask what I need or if I'm in pain or how she can help. Today's morning shift of nurses and a doctor I saw for a couple minutes had no empathy. Don't go into the medical field if you don't enjoy helping people. If you're looking for peace and quiet in the morning then don't work at an ER where people are sobbing in pain. I did NOT get the medical care or attention I deserved or needed despite being there for over 12 hours. I was offered a shot of Toradol, which didn't help, and I told the staff would not help. Then I was offered an array of sedatives to calm me down. Sedatives I've never taken before and were not on my medical list even. The staff's priority was centered around getting me to quiet down and not actually caring about pain or discomfort. People don't cry or sob out of fun or for attention. It's typically due to a great deal of pain and agony. Severely disappointed by this lack of professionalism, proper care, and any sympathy for someone in a great deal of pain and discomfort. It seemed I was an inconvenience to their morning routine. They claimed I would be admitted to the hospital but after the morning theatrics I left AMA and still in a great deal of pain. If I'm going to be left to suffer in pain then I'd rather do it at home in a peaceful environment than in a place where people actively close the door so they don't hear your distress. Shame on people like you who dare call themselves healthcare providers. Such a disgrace to the medical profession. Perhaps learn a chapter from Dr. Mittal's team on bedside manner, effort, promptness, and caring. read more

I want to recognize St. Joseph's emergency room team for my experience yesterday. From the time I checked in, to being called back for the initial triage, to being placed in one of the emergency room beds, to speaking with the emergency room doctor and every nurse that came into my room, my experience was nothing but stellar! Stellar! This is not the closest hospital to where I live but if I have a choice, I will make the effort to drive to this location in the event, God forbid, I need emergency care. The RN that assisted me during my visit was an absolute angel. However, the reason for my 3 star rating is thanks to the girl at the check in office. Not the one that greets you but the nurse that's helping the gentlemen when they're asking for symptoms. She was so rude and unpleasant. Don't work in an environment that requires helping others if you don't have it in you to be a kind and decent human being. Additionally , I went in with my sister because we were experiencing the same symptoms of stomach flu but it had been over 7 days of illness and our dr recommended we check into the ER due to possible dehydration. I told this rude lady that I was pregnant and for some reason I was immediately sent to the "labor and delivery" area. I explained that it had nothing to do with my pregnancy but they still sent me. My sister was sent home with a doctors notice to return to work after 5 days, a diagnosis, and steps on how to treat the illness. Meanwhile, my visit consisted of checking on the baby (which I knew was okay) , no doctors note to return to work (they refused to give me one) and no instructions on how to treat the infection. Thank goodness the nurse that saw me gave me an IV and some tips but overall my visit revolves around my pregnancy and again... this is NOT what I came here for. read more

Horrible horrible service, so disorganized which causes them to be very slow. The person who runs/oversees the emergency room has no systems in place or abortive ones, therefore causes a dreadful long excruciating wait. Wife arrive 1:30 and it's almost 4:35pm and we are still here, sad part is there's only few people here. The only reason we chose to come here is because it's 5 mins from our home in Burbank.
