It is quite a large shop for a village, and they sell near enough everything, ranging from sweets, frozen foods, tinned food, drinks, alchol, greeting cards, pet food, newspapers, magazines etc. There is also a post office situated at the back, which is handy for the older people of the village, so if they can't drive the post office is easily for them to use, instead of going into town, from here you can send letters and parcels, draw out money from your bank, get insurance, really everything you can do at mainstream post offices. The shop is open from 8.00am to 6.00am every day except sundays when it close at 12.00am.

Excellent signal box renovation and handy picnic tables, (accessible to those in wheelchairs). Rest weary bodies and replenish energy levels with your picnic morsels or with light refreshments from the cafe booth located in the bottom of the signal box itself. Zip (or trudge, leave that to you) up the signal box stairs and look at the presentation of times gone past and resist the temptation to pull back one of the brightly coloured track levers. A large car park with toilets and picnic site, giving level access onto the Tissington Trail. Pay and display, free to blue badge holders. There is a good quality, clean toilet suitable for disabled people, open all year, (RADAR key needed). Excellent place for visitors to Peak District.

Sudbury Hall is National Trust property in the heart of Derbyshire. The car park is a fairly large…read moremarshalled area, on the opposite side of the road to the house, so there is a small walk to the house (disabled parking is to the rear of the house). The car park does fill up quickly though, so to avoid being shepherded onto the overspill field, get there for mid morning. The walk to the Hall snakes through the grounds, which are punctuated with mature trees like sweet chestnut and ash. The hall itself is a very impressive building with an imposing façade, which has been kept in magnificent condition. The path then splits, one side takes you to a church, whilst the other takes you into a courtyard of sorts, which houses the cafe, shops and the Museum of Childhood. There is also a temporary marquee, in which for small fee, you can learn a craft. Beyond this area is sizeable area of gardens and the front of the hall, which made for some great photographs. The grounds are well kept, but be aware that they are adjacent to large lake, frequented by Canada Geese and Swans, so tread carefully to avoid their numerous droppings! The cafe at Sudbury Hall is fairly large with both outdoor and indoor seating, with indoors having two levels. A good range of both hot and cold dishes, as with most National Trust properties, strawberry desserts, soups, casseroles, flapjacks etc. I plumped for what was obviously a homemade cheese scone, looked great, tasted awful, because it was way too salty. I can eat most things, but this was quickly put to one side, just proves looks can be deceptive! I was a bit sceptical about the Museum of Childhood being less than impressive, but I'm glad to report that these fears where unfounded. It was a fascinating insight into the history of toys and childhood, which worked with everybody because being young or old, there were toys here that sparked the memories. In the main room there was also three bedrooms from around the 1940s, 1970s and 1990s, stuck to the ceiling, a great use of space! One thing that struck me as we finished our visit was how well old toys were made in the past, rather than the built in obsolescence of today's counterparts.

The house itself is beautiful, as is the Museum of Childhood. My favourite though is the gardens which back on to a river. There's a small gift shop and tea room or take a picnic. It's free to park but about £6 for adults to visit the house and garden, or just over a pound for just the garden. National Trust members get in free.

Mow Cop Castle was built in the 18th Century as a summerhouse for someone, I don't know who, you…read morecan find out by Googling it. It's right on top of a hill, on the border of Cheshire and Staffordshire. On a clear day if you look north east from the castle you can see Jodrell Bank (very picturesque!). The views are breathtaking though. The castle itself is now in ruins, but it's still very impressive. I'd recommend taking a flask of hot chocolate up here on a crisp autumn day. If you look hard enough you'll see 'LK 4 SS' written on a rock somewhere in chalk too (that's me and Steve, that is). Well worth a trip. Head to The Ash for a pint afterwards, you'll deserve it after that walk.

The killer-mile up to the castle itself is well known for being difficult in the car, let alone the killer mile run held annual. Not a visit for the faint hearted in wintertime when the roads are a little slippy! The castle itself may have seen better days, but it still holds its shape and is worth the trip just for the view over cheshire and staffordshire that it gives you at the topa spectactular vista all around.

Brough Park has been renovated to include a new gym, a swimming pool, badminton and squash courts…read moreand a large hall for other activities such as judo and tae kwando, so it is very popular with local families. The gym is small, but has all the equipment you need, including cross trainers, treadmills, rowing machines, steppers and bikes. The fitness room provides a range of classes, including aerobics, body pump and yoga to name but a few. The pool provides aqua classes as well as swimming and lessons, and the centre staff also provide kids activities during holiday periods. It is a great addition to the area and very popular, with free parking.
