The selection here is fantastic. Kids have it the best with a big kids section and plenty of chairs and bean bags to chill out on. There are always decorations in this area too. There are computers available for public use as well as a few for looking up that one book you have been trying to find for ages. The staff are very helpful but you often have to wait awhile so the computers are a blessing. I like that the books are mostly in the right places. There are a few libraries in the area where there aren't enough staff so it can get very hard to find things as no one is keeping tabs on naughty people who return them to the wrong places. Beware of keeping a book from here for too long - the fines get really big, really fast. There was a time when I avoided the library for almost a year because I knew I had such a big fine. Luckily for me the system crashed at some point in that year and they lost the fine histories. That sure was a nice surprise the next time I went back. As a library card holder you get a little book bag with Knox Library written on it. It's great for holding all your books so cherish it and wear it with pride!! No seriously, I'm not joking. That bag lasted me years!

Then later on, when I was at uni, I used this place a few times because they had the books I needed for assignments that I couldn't get at my campus library simply because there were more students doing those assignments than there were copies of the book available. Since then, I've tended to not go in as much. It's a good library, but there are a couple closer to me. I do still have my library card, though. Sometimes if I"m doing some shopping, I'll go in and borrow a novel or three. Cheaper than buying.

The Deer Park library offers the usual computer classes, book clubs and kids reading corners, as well as free internet for short periods of time. I wish their catalogue was a little more updated ,because i feel like Im finding the same romance and mystery novels my Nanna likes to read over and over. However, beggars cant be choosers, and I generally find good books once I take a good look through the shelves. Dvd's c.d's and magazines are all available too, usually available for loan for a shorter period of time than books. I definitely think people dont utilise libraries enough, and that the local community should embrace this one like I do!

I used to come here back when I was still studying, and I must say-I don't like the place. Not one…read morebit. It's full of teens, hanging out and making loud annoying conversation. I don't understand why they come to the library (a place of peace and knowledge), to socialize- I suppose because it's free. Annoying teenyboppers aside, the library itself is decent sized. There is a section for children, holding a good variety of children's books and activities. There are magazines and newspapers available here, and you are able to borrow from a range of fiction, non fiction, CDs and audiobooks. This library has a silent study area (which isn't always silent), and a few silent study rooms (max 2 people). There are also computers and printers/photocopiers available at this library. Computers may need to be booked, they are usually taken up by kids playing online games. I like libraries; I like the idea of a quite study space and borrowing books. But this one? I'd rather stay at home.

I have been here many a time looking for resources for my uni assignments (studying online at a uni in another state makes it difficult to borrow from the uni library!). I have always found a good array of books on whatever subject I am after. are also plenty of tables and desks for reading and studying. The staff are helpful for anyone having trouble navigating the book search. The set up is great and easy to follow. I don't feel like I have stepped into a maze when tying to find the call number of a book. The library also has computers for internet use, photocopiers, scanners, and a great little children's section for keeping the little ones occupied.

In this day and age of technology where we are starting to read everything online and download our…read morebooks, it's sometimes nice to lose yourself in a library and appreciate that old book smell. Feeling stressed? Need to forget the outside world? You can do it at Carlton Library. Snuggle in to one of the comfy couches in the window with a good book/magazine/newspaper and let the hours drain away. I recommend it when you are hungover.

The modern library building stands out in otherwise traditional Rathdowne Village. Like most local…read morelibraries, it seems to be jam packed with children having sing-a-longs whenever you need to do quiet study, but if you're just there for a casual browse at fiction it is deadly quiet. The range of fiction is okay, with a particular emphasis on Australian authors. The local history section is the only non-fiction section I ever use, and I rate it for a small library, although if you want access to archived newspapers or other historic documents you're better off heading into the State Library of Victoria. If it's current newspapers you're after, the Carlton Library gets a decent amount of Chinese and European language news - it's definitely the most popular section in the mornings, but it's a pity the readers can't bring their coffees in!

The Good As part of…read morethe Darebin library service borrowers have access to free DVDs, magazines, Cd's, and you know even those strange creatures called books. Reservoir library also hosts a range of free events so if you want to learn about Facebook or listen to an author then keep an eye on the events program. The library is located behind the Reservoir shopping precinct and has plenty of parking as well as public transport options. The Bad If your heading to the library to take advantage of free wifi and quiet study area then think again. The tables provided for both are squashed into a small area and are limited. The library lends (pause to appreciate that library joke folks) an atmosphere more suited to a 1970's horror movie. It is the type of environment where no matter how new the stock is, it looks old and shabby and out of date. The staff clearly try their best, but in reality, you can only work with what you have. The Ugly This library is a giant brick box filled with bad lighting and old furnishings.

I'm here today as an ex-librarian to share with you a secret. Your local library is not just a musty old room filled with old books and a cranky spinster telling you to "Be quiet!" Libraries are loud, fun and colourful and offer more services and entertainment then you thought! Rosanna Library is the smallest of the eight branches under the Yarra Plenty Regional Library Service umbrella. It also happens to be my local. Despite the small size, the library works with what it has. I'm a fan of the large and colourful children's area that invites junior borrowers to play and read. The computer area that renders the Mac versus PC debate a non-issue or BYO laptop or ipad and use the free Wifi! Find a couch and stay a while or run in and out was quickly as possible with the self issue borrowing that lets you move on faster. Need help? Confused? Daunted? The staff will go out of their way to answer your questions and get you the information you need. They have heard it all so no question is too strange or obvious! They are also happy to have a chat or show you how to download the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy to your ipad. Yarra Plenty branches also host free events. Story times, morning tea, computer classes, cooking demonstrations just to name a few of the regular events you will find when you visit. Once every two or three weeks I usually swing by the library to pick up a new pile of Graphic…read moreNovels. The library is linked up to the BookMyne app which lets you put a massive amount of books on hold from what looks to be an extensive library network. These days I usually have 8 or more items waiting for me on the shelf whenever I go in thanks to the app! With the self check out they have here you can walk in, grab your stuff waiting for you off the shelf, check your books out yourself and be back in the car within a few minutes. There is a decent sized DVD collection here, with everything from kid's stuff to TV series and documentaries. The CD collection is quite large too with a good variety of everything and it seems to be updated quite frequently too. I've picked up a lot of travel books from here when preparing for vacations and they seem to have a lot of new stuff in that area too. My favourite section is the comics/graphic novels area. Tucked away near the kids and young adults, I'm usually the only one past puberty looking at them, which means I can usually get a nice haul to read! Half of the stuff on shelf is your standard DC & Marvel with the rest being manga and smaller label books. It's also updated very often, with lots of 2012 releases being found here. There always seems to be some sort of community class happening in the back of the library, there are plenty of computers around that you can use and there is even a wall of Playstations and XBoxes that are always in use. With friendly staff who are always able to help out, I'm going to miss heading here when we move away from the area and hope I can find another library like it!
