Had been following James Ward Jr. on his radio program 'Cultural Conversations' and found his radio broadcast very uplifting, refreshing, unique. Never imagined I would be actually attending his church, like ever. If I had to describe him I'd say he's less of a traditional, run of the mill pastor and more like a motivational speaker / CEO very cool guy. Very real, down to earth, authentic atmosphere. James Ward jr. offers an almost decadent buffet of powerful messages that stirs you and boosts you out of your comfort zone and into actualizing your faith + prayer life, not just being a sideline Christian. He teaches us how to bring it in the streets, in our homes, and in the workplace. Highly recommended.

This church is located north of Chicago in Evanston, IL which is a suburb of Chicago. I drove down from Ohio with some women from various Northeast Ohio Vineyard churches. CONFERENCE - The 2025 Vineyard Women's conference was amazing. It was 3 days and 2 nights. The conference was broke down into morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. The conference was filled with fellowship (praise and worship), learning God's word through hearing speakers in large and small group settings, connecting with other women, small group discussions, and prayer time. During the conference, there were breaks scheduled through the day for lunch, snacks, and dinner. CHURCH -- The church itself is fairly big inside with plenty of parking outside on a parking lot. As I walked in each day of the MORE conference, I was greeted by either church staff or the National Vineyard Women's committee staff. The church has lots of ministries for members to get actively involved with, such as Bible studies and volunteer opportunities. I don't know that I would drive out of my way specifically just to visit, but we were so glad that we spotted it on our way to a cute (and yummy, see my review) bakery within walking distance called Sweety Pies. While we were inside taking photographs, really enjoying the stained-glass windows and architecture, there happened to be musicians in the rafters rehearsing. Such a nice way to further appreciate the beauty around us. It turns out there was to be a wedding here in less than a half hour! If you are a shutterbug, or just appreciate the wonderful architecture, sculptures, and stained-glass of many old churches, and are in the neighborhood, you should enjoy the charm of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Skokie.

I have been attending SVBC since I was born in 2001. I always knew it was a great place, but I…read morenever realized how incredible this church was until I left for college and I surprisingly found it difficult to find a welcoming, Bible-believing church. Finding a multi-cultural multi-generational church on the north shore of Chicago is probably very very rare, but here's SVBC. The current senior pastor, Pastor Tim, bases his sermons on scripture (how it should be). The Gospel is preached every single Sunday, which is so so so important, as it's the center of our purpose! This is not a feel good prosperity church as so many are today. SVBC has repeatedly convicted me, drawn me so much closer to Jesus, and given me a family. I am so forever thankful for this church. No matter who you are or where you are in life, SVBC is the place to be.

The Bahai Temple is a place for all to come and meditate or pray. The temple itself has so many…read moresymbolic motifs incorporated into its architecture that represents all religions. Their grounds are well maintained and gorgeous with plants, flowers, and water features. They have a Welcome Center that explains the history and symbolism to truly appreciate everything this temple has to offer. I recommend stopping here to not only take in its beauty but to connect to faith as a whole. Tip: No Photography is allowed inside the Temple.

The welcome center has a lot of useful literature on the Baha'i faith, and it's wonderful to learn more about this incredibly inclusive and peaceful religion, and saddening to hear about the persecution of Baha'i people. I've visited the Lotus Baha'i temple in Delhi before, and the building in Chicago is significantly smaller and less of an architectural marvel. However, unlike the temple in Delhi, the house of worship in Chicago is not a tourist destination. This allows for more serene contemplation, away from the hustle and bustle of the main city. The Baha'i hous of worship is easily accessible by public transport and also has ample parking. The restrooms in the welcome center are spotless. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the House of Worship. It's not a typical tourist destination, but is instead truly a place for contemplation and silence.

It has great meaning (past and present) for my wife's family, and we were able to use it as a place for remembrance during the start of Lent in 2025. Basilicas are Catholic churches with special privileges and historical significance, granted by the Pope and approved by the Vatican. There are four 'major' ones, all located in Rome, and many minor ones (with three in the City of Chicago). A Cathedral is the church that serves as the home for a Catholic Diocese, with the Holy Name Cathedral being that for the Chicago arch-diocese (though it is not a basilica). The Queen of All Saints was completed in 1960, with Pope John XXIII elevating it to a basilica in 1962. Our families came for the 8:30 am mass on a Monday, to remember the one year death anniversary of our dad. We came early, and witnessed the rosary led by layman (mostly Filipinos from what I can tell). By 8:30 am, the front of the church was filled up. After the mass, our families stayed to do our rosary for the dead.

I began attending EBC two years ago when I moved to Evanston. I joined the church quickly because…read moreof the people I met there. Many of them have proven to be true friends as time has passed. The church meets in the lower level of the Fountain Square building at the intersection of Sherman and Davis in downtown Evanston. It's a small space, but not crowded. On the walls hang art, all of which was painted by people in the church. The music is a blend of contemporary worship songs and older hymns. It sometimes has a bluegrass feel, and is played well. A lot of the musicians are Northwestern students and it's not uncommon to see a violin-cello, saxophone, or washboard in the band. Around 1/3 of the attendees are undergrad students, around 1/3 are young singles or couples, and the rest are older. Lunch is always provided by the church Sundays after service. It's a great time to get to know people there. The church currently has three small-group Bible studies, one of which meets on Wednesday nights and reads Bible stories to build up the larger story-arc of the Bible. The other two meet on Thursday nights. One is for men, studying Ephesians. The other is for women, and I don't know what they are studying. The church tries to be good citizens of Evanston, taking part in community functions, cleaning up litter in alleys (Alley-Sheep) and Christmas caroling around Evanston. The pastor holds a PhD in Philosophy from Vanderbilt. He currently spends half his weeks in Louisville, KY teaching ethics and apologetics at a seminary and half his weeks in Evanston. The church doctrine states that Jesus Christ and the straightforward teaching of the Bible is life transforming. Some might call that conservative, others might describe it differently.
