My go-to look is a lot of volume with a round brush and twisting it down to create some natural waves. - The hair wash was long and I had a fantastic head massage. I feel like the girl took a lot of care not to get my face wet since I already had my make-up done, which I appreciated. - My hair turned out nice. There was nothing really "wrong" with it, but the hair dresser used a certain style that didn't achieve exactly what I wanted. She dried my hair by sections, but straight, so it didn't get any volume. Then she took a curling iron over it, did the waves I wanted and sort of scrunched up each section on the top of my head. In the end it just did not have any volume. - They speak pretty much no English here. I got that vibe when I first called, because the girl who answered the phone had to pass me on to someone else. They knew enough to get by, but there was zero conversation. It ultimately made it slightly awkward. Personally, it's not a reason I would dock a star, I mean my French could be much better too; but having someone who is able to communicate in English is always a plus. Overall, it was A-OK. It wasn't the best but it certainly wasn't the worst either. Let's just put it this way, I wouldn't not recommend it.

The official language is French, and the vast majority (over 95% of the population) have French as their 1st language. Tourists may believe the city is more bilingual if they are "downtown", but that is only because it's a touristy area catering to Americans/Canadians. It's unfair to apply that logic to a salon, which is mostly for locals. I've gotten my hair cut there for a while now, and being American myself (with limited French), I also have a hard time conversing, but I put that responsibility on my shoulders, not the staff's. My wife has also had her hair done their once or twice, and we've both been very happy with the results.

It was my lucky day and they did. Michael cut my hair and did a great job! Quick, good attention to detail and very nice. But he also respected boundaries. I'm not one who enjoys talking while I get my hair cut. He noticed this and graciously left me alone while he cut my hair. I sincerely appreciated his observation of me the customer in his chair. If I lived in Quebec City I absolutely would not hesitate to go back.

I had an appointment with Felix and he was really cool about the whole process. He did good work, but it just seemed like he was rushed. I'm not normally used to that. We'd been walking all day, soaking up the incredible sights of Quebec City on foot and I was a little harried and exhausted when we arrived, but felt like completely different woman when I left. I can't say enough good things about my massage therapist David. He was extremely conscientious in asking about my needs and any health issues, and the massage itself (I had the deep tissue) was extraordinary. He worked out all of my tensions, every knot, yet was gentle as well as intense and effective. I am definitely coming back to QC and when I do, I'll be making an appointment with David!

This wasn't a problem for me as they seemed to try to make the room as comfortable and as much like a spa treatment room as possible. I had the 80 minute Signature Payot massage with Francine (I believe that was her name - I hope I got it right) and she was truly wonderful. First we sat down and she explained the products she was going to use on me. They all smelled wonderful and felt luxurious. She had me pick out the aromatherapy oils I wanted and explained what the treatment would entail. After she made sure I was comfortable, she got to work. I generally don't like when I am massaged with forearms but Francine's pressure was perfect and she managed to address the tight areas. The technique she used was very French - think Venus Beauty Institute with Natalie Baye. The effleurage was executed by assured, experienced hands of someone who really knows what she's doing. Then came the face massage. I didn't realize this was part of the treatment until Francine explained it to me at the beginning. At first I hesitated because I don't like unfamiliar products applied to my face and I generally stay clear of facials. But Francine had a very calming demeanor and she seemed to know the products very well so I decided to go with the flow. I'm glad I did because at one point I fell asleep! The products felt so good, I left even the hair elixir in for the rest of the day, making me look like I hadn't washed my hair in a week, but the smell was so good and it made my hair very soft! Note to Payot: please package your products in smaller sizes so travelers like me can buy your wonderful stuff and still fly home with them in our carry on.

There are large and small size soaps, an Organic section and wonderful soaps and creams for Eczema and Psoriasis with Melaleuca (Tea Tree) oïl. I tried a sample on my arms and the eczema spots cleared up significantly. I was so impressed that I went back to the store the next day and bought the cream and soap which healed my skin. It was so nice to find products without chemicals and préservatives while traveling. Mahalo!
