This school does not listen to you. They do not treat well. I do not feel safe in that kind of place.

The middle school is no better than the high school, but I have to admit I had some fond memories of being at the middle school.

However, there seems to be an excessive amount of subs. Currently out of 8 daily classes, one of my kids has 3 subs. 37% of her classes are taught by teachers who don't know the kids, are not respected by the kids, and cannot coax the best out of the kids. One earlier sub actually hit a child which was brought to the admin by students. Teachers often cross teach and sometimes not to much success. I am a better math teacher than one of my kids current teachers. However, in the high school there are some stellar teachers. All of the teachers could use lessons in human behavior. The goal is always to how do I teach to many different kids on many different levels, not just how do I get through the day? There are lots of sports and clubs to choose from but like all schools if your child wants to participate they can, if they want to get lost in the fray, they can get lost in the fray. The biggest issue we have had is unresponsiveness from the administration. I have several children at BSM and, like life, there have been issues. I always try to address them to the Jr. High principal but have ended up contacting parents directly because sadly, nothing gets done and you do not get the courtesy of a follow up call. Bad situations continue to be bad, get worse and then months later there you are calling parents directly anyway whereas if it was taken care of immediately perhaps the poor behavior could have been corrected immediately. All schools have their issues but I do not know if I would choose this school again. They are very supportive of the kids that will be successful wherever they go and because it's easy to support those kids. The kids that could use more support, encouragement, direction, mentoring, etc. are on their own. The combination of a parent/school support system can elevate kids who are short on confidence and if I could choose again I would interview all administration with a more objective eye and choose better.

I don't really want to sully positive reviews here for negativity, but I was bullied at this school during my time as a student here. Not only from the students (two of whom I was in a toxic friendship with), but the PARAs, teachers and adults who should have known better. I was a disabled student with several family members that died during my junior and senior years, and I was yelled at for crying in class and for having panic attacks that were out of my control, causing increased mental breakdowns throughout the day. This school also has a history of racism and prejudice as a whole, and I had an unpleasant encounter with some students saying homophobic things to another student only to act like it was all a big joke, some other students in my class were joking about prison r*pe and genuinely thought it was funny, and my Mexcian peers were treated horribly by a staff member who I won't name solely because they were Mexican, and another PARA was so islamaphobic to another staff member that they made them cry. The only saving grace were the positive staff members who made my experience worthwhile, namely the receptionist, who I still have yet to call to thank her, my case manager, my writing teachers, and my science teachers. Still, I was afraid to report the toxic friendships I had with the two students I knew here due to the trauma I sustained. The way they treated me was no way to treat a student who experienced several deaths in the family. I would advise against sending your students here, but given the positive reviews others left based on their happy experiences, I would advise you make this decision for yourself and take caution if your child claims their teacher is out to get them because at Hopkins High, that claim may very well be true.

All because I wasn't taking notes. I was born in Russia. I asked him where Baikal was. He is still looking. I did have very good science, bio and chem teachers. Horrible PE "teachers" failed athletes - Ms. Johnson and Mr. Nelson. The building is ok. A bit confusing at first. Lockers are tiny. Cafeteria is a zoo. Dont forget to check out the pool on the fourth floor.

I never felt safe there because of an occurrence with another student and the council it's don't really care how they feel. They only care about their paycheck. Not only that there are power outages at least three times a year. It's saying something when teachers have flash lights in their desks. Not only is it the logistics that are slow and bare minimum. Many of the teachers are terrible. In fact one teacher actually said to me "I get paid either way if you learns something". That's classy. Although I'm disappointed in my education at this school there were some really great times here. Mr. Maas was one of my favorite teachers and really got down to his students level to teach them things. My absolute favorite thing though. Is getting out of there. Has great potential to be a good school if (some, not all)teachers and staff really brought forth effort to understand students needs and wants.
