After having to change schools due to closure after COVID and realizing that we did not make a good choice in that change, we made the decision to bring our children to St. Luke in the hopes that we would get the experience we were seeking. All I can say is I could kick myself for not coming here first. It has been nothing but a positive experience as a parent and a blessing for our daughters. From day one the students have been totally welcoming and lovely. Class size is half what it was at the other school and teachers are amazing. The staff and administration are very responsive and always looking to "do more" to make the school a better place. Parents have also been so friendly and inclusive. I highly recommend St. Luke to anyone asking a high quality education that combines important Christian values with academic excellence. read more

I initially fell in love with St. Luke School because of the environment and the Christian values that are part of the fiber of the community. There's safety and love that envelop the students as they walk in the door each morning. The love is given and received, and is almost easy to take for granted because it's just always there. The positive energy in the classrooms is due to the teachers and staff who have chosen to teach in a Catholic school almost as a vocation, as well as the children whose families have chosen this school. As a reading specialist and elementary and middle school classroom teacher, my trust deepened as I recognized the curricular knowledge base for which the administrators and teachers used to select their resources and programming. The importance of including phonics, spelling, and word study is important to me because I have seen the value of it first hand. Their understanding and knowledge of brain-research-based instruction as well as their understanding of meeting the needs of the WHOLE child is impressive and unique in our present educational climate. Additionally, the partnership between the teachers and administrators has been instrumental in making the curriculum accessible to the students. St. Luke's is truly growing and nurturing critical-thinking, independent, well-rounded, soulful individuals. read more

We moved our son from the public school system in Oak Park to St. Luke's in 2021 to start 6th grade. We have had a fantastic experience. When I went to my first set of parent teacher conferences, I was blown away how every single teacher knew my son academically but also his interactions in and outside of the classroom. He also had an opportunity to play basketball at St. Luke's which would not have been the case at the public school. The ability to play on this team helped him with developing his athleticism but also bonding with others in his grade. As a parent, I was concerned that joining the school so late would be hard in terms of meeting other parents. Quite the opposite, we have met so many great parents and found lots of ways (i.e Men's Club, sporting events, Gala committee to name a few) to really get involved and feel part of the St. Luke's community. read more

This school used to be a good school at one time. Unfortunately that time has passed. They have removed the long standing Pastor, merged with St.Bernadine, and hired a young inexperienced principal that doesn't even have ten years tenure in education. They are underfunded, and have a very High teacher to student ratio. The amount of kids in a class exceeds every local school in the area by about 6 to 8 students. They still have a handful of great teachers, but that's the only positive about the school. Facilities are old and obsolete for modern teaching. They are well maintained though. It is my opinion that the public Schools in Oak Park and River Forrest are much better than this School at this time. read more

We have been so pleased with the education our child has received here at St Luke. As River Forest residents, we had intended to switch to public school once our child was out of Kindergarten, however, we changed our minds once we realized the amazing impact the faith based education was having on our child. The teachers/staff are amazing, the principal is fabulous, the priests are engaged and the students are supportive of one another. There are 12 students in my child's classroom. I am so happy we made the decision to stay here at St Luke and beyond grateful we have this wonderful school in our neighborhood. The facilities are older, however, our child doesn't notice as he has what he needs there. read more

In regards to the education and resources, they are not bad. The teachers care about the kids and the ciriculums are reasonably appropriate for the kids. I had two of mine go there (kindergarden and 1st grade) and they had a good time. They made good friends and they are still in touch with them today. Eilish B. should stuff her opinion where the sun doesn't shine, unless she actually had her kids go there (Who are you to make a comment when your kids haven't even attended that school, unlike your review when you actually set foot in the Blue Max Cafe??) But there are issues in the school where there are parents/families who donate huge sums of money and they feel entitled to get their way because they are supporting the church/school. The principal (former) fell victim to that and let herself get railroaded by those families, because the children of these families were bullies. Dropping the hammer on these bullies could have ment the families ceasing their extravagant donations. We left that school, fortuantely before this drama hit the fan. Our kids were out-pacing their peers and they were bringing home bad habits. I don't know how it is now, but they are searching for a new principal and more than one teacher has left because of the church's/school's unwillingness to deal with the bully children and bully families. read more

We knew the moment we walked in that this was the right school for our kids. The principle has been at the school for 20 years. First as a teacher, then moving her way up to running the school. There is a great mix of parents, and teachers. This will be the place where my children remember Their greatest days. read more

Our second year w/St Luke and we love it. The principal this year, she has gone above and beyond with education, fundraising and also she is 100% anti bullying. We love St. Luke School (A Blue Ribbon School). The principal and teachers are kind, caring educators and prepare students for success in high school (we have wonderful choices in our community, both public and private). Judge the school by its end product. Visit the school and you will be very impressed with the 8th grade students. Overall, they are thoughtful, intelligent and respectful teenagers and we are very pleased with our children's education. We continue to send our younger children to St. Luke School.
