St Luke's Hospice Shop is tucked away on an old garage forecourt on Crookes. It's bigger - and much less organised - than many of its equivalents, but this means a higher than usual possibility of finding a bargain! Clothes are packed into rails in the centre of the shop, then round the outside are books, bric-a-brac, CDs, records and furniture. They've also got a separate room containing posters, paintings and prints.
It's no good nipping in there for a quick 5 minute look - the size, layout and amount of stock means that it takes a while to browse through anything. This shop does seem to attract the dealers on the look out for that rare piece of china, plus some of the more valuable items are held in a glass case at the front of the store, so you're probably not going to unearth a rare find - but it's a great way to spend half an hour, and donate to charity too.
It's also worth noting that they close on Mondays. read more
