Located at the 8th floor of St. Luke's Hospital, the Lactation Unit is an oasis for all the desperate new mothers who are having a hard time breastfeeding. I arrived there completely distressed because my milk ducts were all clogged. It was very painful and I didn't know what to do. Luckily there I've found the best professional ever: Marlyn, the lactation consultant, was so kind and lovely that I immediately felt better.
Firstly she calmed me down and then patiently taught me how to unclog the milk ducts with a massage. Marlyn also showed me how to hand express milk and it's being very useful for me. Since I had too much pain, she helped me to pump with a Medela professional machine. I felt much better after that help.
Marlyn was really sweet and provided me all the attention I needed on that moment. I came back to St. Luke's Lactation Unit one more time with my baby and again she patiently taught him the correct latch. It is no exaggeration to say this place solved all my problems concerning breastfeeding.
I recommend a visit for every mom in trouble. I'll never forget when I asked Marlyn how much should I pay for the appointment, she said: "nothing, my dear. It's a social responsibility work". Well done, Philippines! It really should be like this everywhere!
