I went back the following day to attend Saturday Eve Mass. The priest and parishioners warmly welcomed me into the service and community. They extended the invitation to gourmet soup/desserts night. This Christian Orthodox church belongs to the OCA archdiocese and the entire service is in English. The space feels absolutely sacred and safe and the people are very friendly. It was my first time going to a service where the younger children are involved as well. They grab their favorite icon and happily follow the priest during procession. It's absolutely heartwarming Join this congregation for coffee hour downstairs and they will make an effort to get to know you no doubt. I've only been twice so far but I feel at peace there and can sense that this group values community!

From the get go she was scattered in her thinking and sent random emails asking for info and paperwork I had previously provided her with. The dress rehearsal was a mess. This wedding coordinator made us start in the middle of the ceremony, then proceed to the end. THEN we got to practice the beginning. What is with that??? The day of the wedding was a disaster to put it lightly. Im walking down the isle and this "wedding coordinator" never remembered to bring the GROOM, Best man, and Reverend out from the back waiting room. Clearly this was part of the rehearsal the night before. He missed me walking down the isle as well as his mother and granmother. Needless to say, I spent the whole night listening to people tell me that they thought I was being left at the altar. Thank you wedding coordinator, thank you! I did contact this woman after the fact to tell her I was unhappy with her services. She said, "had she known that it was a priority that my husband be there when I walk down the isle she would had made it happen". WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!? I give 2 star because this Church is absolutely beautiful , and the church secretary was super sweet and accommodating. Also, they have a nice "library" with fireplace if you want to book that too in case of rain for your photos etc. Lastly, one side of the church has all original Tiffany windows that let the natural light in! Bonus- They are excepting of all folks not matter their background, race, religions, gender, orientation etc...

An ode to my polling place on Election Day 2020! I've voted here in every primary and general…read moreelection since 2018 (save this year's general, where I voted early at the David F Gantt Community Center.) This polling place serves a huge chunk of residential East Irondequoit and always has big turnout. Such a large and important undertaking takes the best of poll workers, and I am happy to say that's what you'll find here. The same woman has been leading the charge here (I WISH I knew her name) since it has been my polling place, and she runs a tight ship in the best possible way. When I think of unspoken heroes I always think of her and people like her who hold up our democracy in the most amazing ways. I had moved right around election day a few years ago and my polling place hadn't yet switched over. They gave me an affidavit ballot and ensured I was well on my way to making my vote count. I never had an issue again and everything seemed to be cleared up. The space itself is spacious and has a large parking lot, making it super clear where to enter to place your vote. My partner said they were armed with plenty of hand sani this year and masks for anyone not wearing one. He was in and out in 15 minutes right when polls opened. I always look forward to placing my vote and having an amazing, community-forward polling place really makes it a fun annual experience. First went to a Community Breakfast invited by a friend of mine…read more Met Bishop David J. Singleton and heard about a voluntary program in PS17 "Help Me Read". What this program does is recruit volunteers to tutor children in reading. I joined immediately. The progress and enthusiasm of the children in participating in this program is overwhelming. I didn't think I would help so much these children, but not only I can notice the progress, the teacher feedback was mind blowing. Helping others, especially children is such a rewarding deed, considering that Roc is #2 in the nation in children's poverty level. Please, if you read this review. Come and join us. This has nothing to do with religious involvement. Purely from a human, community based desire to help. Thank you.
