While I was in Utah, I attended 2 churches: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and this one. I had contact with some others too. The story about my faith is that I did try the Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). But I do need a good amount of freedom in a church, and it started to feel oppressive to me. A number of things went wrong too, I lost a job, housing, etc. So I had a very nice 4 months or so in the area, then it all went to pot! Originally both the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and this church too were welcoming to me. But when I returned this time (I left for Nebraska and was there for 3 - 4 weeks, then returned to this area), I found ALL the local churches to be unwelcoming! And uninviting! All the churches of Utah have decided to turn their backs on the poor. And really, this is the one real redeeming quality of churches. Jesus said to care for the poor. He did not say to keep riches stored up for magnificent churches, etc. - he said to care for the vulnerable. Well, they won't. The churches in the area GREATLY discouraged me - I was very angry at them. I am not sure if I will attend any church again - ever. But I do know from my travels, not all churches are crappy like they were here. I'm not sure what happened in my 3 - 4 weeks away but I returned to find this area truly sad and unwelcoming. I did have several job opportunities. But its not worth it to me to live with unkind, uncaring, unwelcoming people. I'll find a job and home someplace else. Oh and I have done music for a very long time - including some advanced music like classical guitar. This church treated me like I was some kind of freak. I wanted to be in their music ministry and they did not invite me or let me be in it. However, in Nebraska, they let me in the music department and I was highly complimented. Too bad Utah churches don't know what 'welcome' is. I found them to be appalling. Personally - just my personal opinion and subjective - but I think God will judge them for it as well.
