My husband and I were invited by some friends to attend the Sunday "Picnic In The Park". Upon…read morearriving we were greeted by a bunch of very friendly people and felt very welcome. One of these people was a guy named Matt, whom we all later on learned was one of the pastors. We were led to where the food line was. The people serving were very friendly and definitely not stingy with portions. All of the meats were served piping hot, and the salads cool and tasty. There seemed to be a lot of interesting activities going on for the kids. I saw tractor rides, bouncy houses, coloring, photo booths, and even homemade ice cream! A very yummy and appreciated treat on a hot day. While sitting under the shade tree relaxing, a woman named Lori came up to us and started chatting with us. Turns out Lori is Matts wife, the guy that originally greeted us when we first arrived. A little while later Matt joined Lori as well as their middle daughter. I found all of them very genuine and personable and down to earth "humans", not "stuffy" and "snobby" like other clergy I have ran into over the years. They wound up chatting with us for about an hour, very willing to help answer some questions and share stories. Even their daughter seemed to be very well grounded, appreciative and level headed, a rare thing to find in today's teens and young adults. A little while later a Justin guy joined us to say hi. Justin was also very friendly and personable. All of these nice folks invited my husband and I back for next Sundays picnic. Never once did I feel pressured to attend a service; nothing like some places where it was "If you DON'T attend a service, you're going straight to Hell" stuff. Later on Lori came back up to me with a friend and they invited me to a womans Bible study. This was based on questions I had earlier asked Lori, not because they were trying to "recruit" me into some church going study thing. I told them I wound think about it and get back to them soon. I could not tell you what one of their services is like because I have not attended but I can say that if they indeed do practice what they preach then this may be a church I wind up regularly attending. After I attend a service I will update my ratings. I did not think it would be fair to give 5 stars without first seeing what they offered inside of the church.

It's wonderful that Our Savior's offers a style that is familiar to those of us who are "seasoned," while also providing a worship offering that appeals to those who enjoy "praise" services. I cannot adequately put into words how gracious, welcoming, and helpful the folks at St. Edward's were for our family. Their facility was amazing and they treated us as one of their own. Outward has all the potential to be a great home church. Most of the other reviews are from a few…read moreyears ago, and it seems like things have changed a bit since then. I noticed a lot of young families and they had space for a student ministries now as well. I will say this church isn't for everyone though. The messages are deep and can be challenging at times and that seems to be the point of their "Outward Communities" that they encourage everyone to be apart of. Its not your typical church music experience either. The music seems to be geared towards a "younger" sound, but the gospel message is clearly portrayed through worship. Overall, it's a church worth trying out!

Churches are so subjective…read more.. This one is gorgeous- a real gothic feel from the steeple and stained glass windows to the altar. The pews are high back and uncomfortable. The church is over 100 years old so I guess they didn't care about comfort when they made it :) Fr Phil is wonderful and has a good sermon now and then, even if it is read verbatim from the pulpit- no ad libbing here. Sometimes, a seminarian will preach, which can be good or bad- sometimes they have very thick accents so it's hard to understand. The music is so old school- I mean like a school from 100 years ago- and the choir can be off key. Everything is sung, so it seems, so this can be a real drag if you want something livelier in your mass. In the end, it was the music that did me in. Overall- the good and bad equal each other out- 3 stars.

He is friendly and personable but also a little bit "type A." Mass goes an hour and not a minute longer except for the big holidays. He runs a tight ship and there is nothing gamey or cutesy about mass here. It is plainly and simply mass. It leaves you feeling spiritually "full," but without being overly emotional or dramatic. There are some talented musicians, but how good the music is depends on who the current music minister is. Things are good right now. The pews are uncomfortable, but the church itself is one of the most beautiful in Oregon.
