I found this church from what only could have been a sign from God. I was struggling at the time…read moretrying to switch job fields to provide for my child as a single mother. One rainy morning, I was on the way to work, replaying my rusty job interview responses that did not result in a job offer. Suddenly, the car in front of me slammed on its brakes. To prevent from hydro planning, I swerved into a turn lane to avoid a collision. I had to turn into Hope's parking lot to reroute back onto Patterson to continue my morning commute to a dead end job. I strongly feel like in this moment, God was leading a lost soul back home. I attended that weekend, and the sermon was everything and more. It completely restructured where I placing my trust and faith with keeping a tight control on my life. I handed it over to him that day, and asked him to reveal his plan. Throughout that week, I heard several people repeat a line I had heard in the sermon the prior Sunday. Everything comes back in a fill circle, just like God's plan. This line kept coming back up in conversations with complete strangers. His plan will be revealed in his own time. It will come back in a full circle, but we will not know, while we are going through it. We just have to trust. One of these moments, occurred at my next job interview and I have been a member with Hope over the past 5 years. It has brought so many blessings since. Now I listen for him to guide me. In addition, they have a wonderful youth program for my son. I met my now spouse and we have a strong faith based relationship where God is the center. The music is amazing. The sermons are very scripture based and provide background context to explain why the bible is written in specific vernacular and the intentional meaning behind it. Things I never was taught growing up in my old church. I just love everything about Hope and agree, they meet you where you are. They are friendly, but not pushy. You can become as involved as you wish, and offer tons of classes and study groups. The pastors tend to rotate during each series. They do each have their own style of preaching and depth, but I recommend giving it 2-3 Sundays to feel it out if you are new, before judging a book by its cover. Not every sermon will hit you and be life changing, but they have a lot of very powerful sermons that have so much depth and leave you wanting more. The only thing is it is a pretty large congregation so it can be hard to get to know the pastors and new faces personally on busy Sundays. I recommend coming to a small group or class and get a chance to speak with them in a smaller setting where's its not as busy. Overall, I can't speak more highly of this home church. It's every thing I had been craving as a young and now older adult. I've grown so much in my faith and very thankful for Hope.

All of their main pastors were male, so not sure if this church believes in women preaching in the pulpit. Remnant has as excellent music team for worship, which is full or authentic energy and reverence. The church has 3 different services, so one can feel kind of lost. The leadership encourages people to join a small community group to plug into the church, and get to really connect. This is not the church for you if you are expecting a liturgical service. Church membership and even the leadership are young mostly in 20s and 30s, and with a sprinkling of older people. There are lots of young families. The church is located in a very cool part of Richmond. Parking can be difficult at times. First time I ever experienced a church where I was able to take my coffee in during worship. ;) I didn't realize all the new contemporary worship services are on this band wagon.

Found this church through Acts29 website suggested by a friend who is a pastor. Guy at the front…read moredoor referred me to a parking lot across the street where it was free to park during the service. Generally people said hello but what made a difference was Kelly, who is perhaps part of the welcoming committee who not only said hello, took the time to have conversations with us and made the effort to get to know us. We asked her a question to which she didn't know the answer to, and before the service began, she followed up and gave us info we wanted. Not sure how many pastors they have between the 2 locations but Pastor Doug gave a solid preaching on the word of God. Each part of the service, especially the music selection showed evidence of intentionality which I appreciated. We were visiting the area so I would only attend if I was in the area again, but I kinda wished it was closer to me.

As Paul M noted in his review, this church is also famous as being the place where Jefferson Davis learned the he had lost the Civil War from Robert E. Lee. The church is also famous for being built by legendary Greek Revival Architect Thomas S Stewart and was completed in 1845. . A massive entrance portico of eight columns with ornate Corinthian capitals dominates the exterior of the building. An octagonal dome replaced the original 225 foot-high spire, long since removed due to fear of its instability. This church is an excellent example of Greek Revival church architecture.

I admire the history, the windows, the tombs and the monuments inside the Church. I like the flags, the silence, the solitude. I love the smell. But most of all I come here to marvel at the fact that this Church is where President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis got the message from Robert E. Lee that the South had lost the Civil War. On Sunday April 2nd 1865, whilst attending this Church, Jefferson Davis got a message from Lee stating that he was withdrawing from Petersburg - that the 10 month siege was over - and thus he could no longer defend Richmond. General Grant and the Union army were on their way. Davis evacuated the Confederate Government from the city and then Lee surrendered at Appomattox exactly one week later. Can you imagine this? You can sit in the same pew that Davis sat in when he was given that message. 10 months earlier Lee had been thwarting Grant, Sherman was getting stuck in Tennessee and Lincoln's re-election looked impossible. For a few horrible months it actually looked as if the South would win. But then Atlanta falls, Lincoln is re-elected, Lee gives in at Petersburg and the nation's long nightmare has ended. And in this Church, in a pew near the front, is where they finally realized that it was over.

I am reviewing Grace Covenant for their infant daycare program specifically…read more We absolutely LOVE this daycare! After learning that our son was not being treated with the correct level of care at another local daycare, we moved him to Grace Covenant when he was about 4 months old. I immediately felt welcome by everyone there. The staff were smart, articulate and loving. My mama's instinct said this was the place, and it was absolutely true. Ms. Wilma and Ms. Julia are my son's primary daycare providers, and I have never met sweeter ladies. My son smiles each morning when he sees Ms. Wilma (he's not a big smiler) and I know that he loves her like a grandma! They are so good to my son, and never make me feel like a "stupid first time mom" or that I'm overbearing for asking too many questions, like the last daycare had me believing. They keep me informed on everything going on, good or bad, and ask lots of questions to make sure they are up to date on his progress. My other daycare did none of this. I also love that many of the helpers are students at VCU. They are smart, driven and love the kids very much. At my last daycare, you weren't exactly dealing with the cream of the crop for these positions. I would rather have a smart and driven young woman watching my son, even if they don't plan on staying long term, than a lot of the duds that we had at the first daycare with lots of experience. I know as a mom it's hard to figure out who you can trust with your baby. The best advice I would give is listen to your mama instinct. Talk to the teachers, and make sure they feel passionate about the job they are doing. Grace Covenant checked all the boxes for me.
