This definitely is a bible teaching church. The people are friendly and talk to you after the service, asking you about your week and what's on your heart. People sometimes share their testimony, which really show how God is real and moving in people's lives. There are 2 services, 8:30 and 11:00 AM. With Sunday school at 9:45. 8:30 service sings hymns and 11:00 service has more contemporary music. The church does a lot for the community and hosts several events throughout the year.

I fell in love with the church immediately because it reminded me of my childhood. It's a traditional church with traditional hymns. The people were somewhat reserved but I expect that initially. The church, though big, made me feel at home right away. They had a beautiful choir singing away. They had children everywhere. Towards the end of mass, the priest announced that even though mass attendance was dwindling in most churches across the country, Our Lady of Peace was actually increasing it's number of attendees! How awesome is that?! I definitely think we are in the right place and that we will love it here. You can't find old traditions in many places.

Pastor Tom is warm and welcoming but, doesn't water down God's Word to fit today's vibe. He gives it to you straight as we need it and to apply it to your life but, with much love. Can't say enough about Pastor Andy, the Youth Pastor and his wonderful wife!! The fact that the youth group is busting down the doors and kids in the high school are bringing their friends should speak enough for what this dynamic duo is doing in our communities. This is-per the name-a Bible-believing, Reformed, sola scriptura, sola fide, non-denominational church where Jesus and his word comes first. Even though this is not what I would describe as a "seeker sensitive" church, people who aren't believers will be welcomed and treated with dignity and warmth. Those who are believers will be welcomed as brethren. But no one will be coddled. Pastor Veach, Pastor Dean, and all of the elders at First Bible are performing a much-needed ministry. They are an integral part of the Staten Island community-through Operation Jerusalem and ministries to local nursing homes-and the wider global community, from Haiti, to Poland, to France and the Philippines and beyond. I've been at services where newborn believers from China have given their testimony. First Bible really is a light unto the world. I'd encourage anyone who lives in Staten Island, or New York City, to see the good works they are doing for yourself.

It is a church that cares not only about you but your needs. The church members are always there sharing their love with all. I walked through the door 12 years ago and have not left, I found the comfort, acceptance and love. After being away from church for over 35 years I found my home.
