Whenever I flick through their rails I've often come across Karen Millen, Coast and Jigsaw. And I never EVER thought I'd say this about a charity shop - but sadly I think this Cancer Research shop is overpriced. I'm all for paying the right price, especially when it comes to charity, but this shop more often than not likes to charge its customers just as much as what you'd pay in the shop the items originally came from. I recently contemplated buying a dress, which was originally from New Look, for £10 until I realised I could buy it brand new for this price. The volunteers here are quite acerbic too. Not a happy shopping experience.

And this attitude carries on inside, with music and clean layout and attracting donations of modern clothes and a few curios. I have found a full military uniform in here and a vintage picnic set. They do know the value of such things though so be prepared to pay a reasonable price for items - it is a great charity though.

It's obvious too see how much locals care by the quality and abundance of the donations they give. For those of you who hold the charity dear to your heart - you're in luck because there's four (that's right - FOUR!) St Peter's shops in Clifton Village. What I like about these chain of shops, is that if you're looking for something specific, they'll call around to the other shops to see if they've got it in stock! At this particular branch you'll find the fanciest evening wear and high-end accessories.

What makes this shop a little different from the rest is that it's a local charity which means that they also organise regular fundraising events in Cardiff, many of which are pretty high profile events, like gala dinners and even operatic events. They are looking for volunteers at the moment, but although I'm tempted, I'd struggle to find the time. (I already volunteer at the RSPCA.) They also look like they could use some more clothing donations as the stock levels looked a little low last time I was in. Sometimes, I find it a bit discouraging when charity shops charge prices that seems a bit steep for what you're getting (I know it's going to a good cause, and for books, I'm happy to shell out, otherwise, I don't like feeling like I'm being swindled). George Thomas Hospice Care prices its stock at the more modest end of the scale, and that, combined with the extensive stock of books and DVDs, makes it one of the better charity shops in town. This particular one has a wider selection of womens clothing than anything else, so as a man don't expect to find to many bargains. Clothes are rather boring and a bit cheapy high street and not so cheap prices. Also clothes are co-ordinated by colour rather than size which is a but irritating. Its for a good cause though. You'd think I'd have learned my lesson and just give it a miss now, but I still hold onto the hope that one day I will grab me a right old bargain from there. In reality, they have Primark clothes (bearing in mind that the second biggest Primark is situated next door) for either what they'd cost brand new in the store or, in an occasional flabbergasted moment, even more expensive than buying new from the store. Why anyone would pay more for a second hand item they could get cheaper brand new by going next door, I will never know. I know it's charity and all but come on. Be realistic St Peter's Hospice Shop.
