Once enrolled they could not care less. This is my third year at Newcastle College and although all of it is terrible, the school of health & enterprise is by far the worst. The staff have no relevance to the subject they teach you from a paper booklet and know nothing but that. The power points are outdated and the staff are even more outdated. They can't even get the NCMA payments right with endless delays per term. If you care about your education go elsewhere.

The library and computing facilities were second to none. The university is nicely situated in the heart of Newcastle, with Haymarket metro station and numerous bus services closeby. There are plenty of facilites on campus, as well as the whole of Northumberland street just across the road! As for the general atmosphere of the place - I was not keen. I'm unsure whether I was just unlucky in that the people on my course were not particularly friendly, or whether the university as a whole is like this I was told before going to this university that a lot of the students were so-called 'Durham rejects'. I found this to be quite true although I'm sure those students would not admit it, it was made to be very difficult for the local students to mingle with those student from other areas of the UK. I have no qualms about the level of teaching - the lecturers were very friendly and clearly 'knew their stuff' and the course I did was challenging. If I had to choose again, I would rather have gone to Northumbria University. Although the standard of the course and the entry requirements are generally lower at Northumbria and the campus is less aesthetically pleasing, I imagine that the 'university experience' (which is what most students go for!!!) would have been a whole lot more enjoyable.

There is a huge range of courses, both undergraduate and postgraduate and the range of extra curricula activities is awe inspiring. More than 18,000 students from over 100 different countries choose to study at Newcastle so there is a diverse range of cultures represented in every faculty. There are over 200 full time undergraduate degree programmes to choose from in the following subject areas: Arts Business and Law Combined Studies Engineering Foundation Year Life Sciences Medical Sciences Physical Sciences Social Sciences Newcastle University enjoys strong international collaboration so opportunities are often available for overseas study (dependent upon the degree studied). There are mentoring programmes available for those returning to study, and during your first year of study you are guaranteed a place in University accommodation (certain criteria apply). There are some wonderfully inspirational lecturers there who I would now call firm friends. The architecture in the original parts of the university is superb. There is a great social mix with any number of things to do outside of study - from jazz appreciation to fencing, yoga to wine tasting, scuba diving to martial arts. There is a well maintained gym, a number of places on campus to enjoy bad food, a great student union bar hosting numerous social events and live acts, and it's all in a great city. Due to some problems i delayed my arrival in Newcastle one week after the classes had officially started. I did not have a place to stay and I had not even pre arranged my accommodation. Having nowhere to stay, I went to the accommodation office and they provided me with university accommodation straight away! They can even arrange for you to find private accommodation in reasonable prices. The university accommodation fees were reasonable and i find the accommodation fees for the place I was living (Eskdale Terrace) cheap. Of course my case was special and it is not advisable to wait up to the last moment to arrange for your accommodation.

For anyone who has never visited, Dunelm Mill is a large shops which sells all sort of marvellous homeware, bed linen, furniture, kitchenware - basically anything you could possibly need for your home! As well as things you don't need but buy anyway just because they are pretty ;) In general the prices are reasonable even when there is not a sale on. The quality of the items which I have purchased has always been excellent, and on the rare occassion that I have had a problem, the staff have handled it well and issued a refund or replacement. Dunelm Mill often have some very good promotions on their bedding, which incidentally is the thing that I tend to shop there for most. They cater for all tastes - whether your home is contemporary or vintage inspired there's bound to be something that you need (or more often just want in my case!). Recently they have also started to sell online. Their web site is http://www.dunelm-mill.com . They do charge for delivery, though it is fairly reasonable at £3.95 for standard delivery or £5.95 for the next day service. They do have quite a lot of their products online; however, it is best to visit instore as they have more variety, and also the best end-of-line bargains tend not to appear on the website. Overall, Dunelm Mill is miles ahead of the more expensive homeware shops - great value, as well as offering durable and desirable homeware!

It has all homewear items such as bedding, curtains, cushions, material, pictures, furniture and lighting as well as many kitchen utensils, rugs and ornaments. It is a great shop and i have kitted my home out with alot of items from this shop. Worth a visit if you are after anything for the home. I have purchased 2 bathroom suites from these guys and have to say the service a received was first class. The first was just a cheap bog standard bathroom suite that was well made and is still going to this day, the other was a spa bath, that I have to say has been fantastic and I have had no problems with it what so ever. The prices are very good and competitive and the service is very good I would def recommend this place to anyone in the hunt for a new bathroom or shower.

And for good reasons! First of all the location could not have been better: A couple of blocks up from the central station and being in the heart of Newcastle for restaurants and nightlife. It is just a few minutes walk up to Chinatown or to Eldon Square and wherever else you need to go. Being so handy to the central station we spent many a weekend on short trips to Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as to Durham. Oh, the apartments themselves were just fantastic. We had never rented apartments before, and even though these are presented as part of an aparthotel they are huge. And we opted for space: Two bedroom & two full bathrooms (one is en suite too). There is also a very good sized living room with open dining area and a modern kitchen with crockery and cutlery and pots and pans available. You also get a fridge and hob with oven. We didn't prepare more than breakfasts. But it was great to have all of the equipment available anyway. The bedrooms are not too large really but they are comfortable and have all that one needs including wardrobes and clock radios. The bathrooms were great, modern, and spacious. Housekeeping was very good too. It was lots better than the Manchester location. As for the reception staff (Annette et al) I miss them to this day. They helped organize our bookings, called taxis for us, and got to know us on a personal level always cheerful and welcoming each time we returned. Even when I decided to make a sudden visit Annette helped me to get my booking quickly. Lovely staff.
