This place is the reason why I will never send my kids to a Catholic school. The education was subpar, the teachers were rude and condescending, and the principal was the most racist and conniving woman I've ever met. Mrs. Faxon would tell latino kids like myself to not speak Spanish and would spread homophobic rhetoric to young and impressionable kids. Their parish is also lackluster and their materials are old and outdated. Most teachers and faculty act so rude to kids and seem like they hate their jobs. Never go here. read more

the best church in A town. i go to church often with my family and really enjoy the church and music

I taught music at St. Rita's for a short while...The company I worked for was responsible for hiring music teachers in private schools in the Chicago area...The music teacher at the school was dismissed....As the music supervisor, I stepped in to teach while interviewing others for this job. It was an interesting experience and I think I must have a much different take..My classroom was downstairs in the big cafeteria-meeting space...The students and I were in a corner....but we made do...We had a large Christmas concert in the church and the students seemed happy enough...I did notice the students were very "disciplined" but it didn't take long for the students to adjust and sing...or work on rhythms etc. I didn't find it difficult to get along with the Principal...AND the "janitor" wasn't just his job....His area was also in the basement where his supplies and tools were...He was an amazing person, very intelligent, very philosophical...It does make me sad to read that any of the students felt bullied or discriminated against....I was at the school two days a week...I rarely encountered the teachers...I genuinely liked the Principal...As a non-Catholic, I would say I was generally tolerated...One outstanding memory: On 9/11, we all gathered at the school to attend the funeral of a precious third grader who had succumbed to cancer...As I arrived for the service (Her fellow third graders were prepared to sing at her funeral) no one was around....I went looking and found the teachers in a classroom, watching the destruction of the twin towers...We all sat in shock and silence....and then we all went into the church and tried our best to put on brave faces...Most of the students were unaware of what was happening...It was a sad day to begin with....St. Rita's....some good memories...I assure you that the Principal poured her heart and soul into this school....So, I'm delighted to write from a different perspective... read more

I went to school here from kindergarten to 8th grade. The majority of the teachers here were awful. They seemed to have something against minorities. I was friends with the only other three Hispanic kids in my grade. The teachers would bully us and we would get in trouble all the time for things like singing to ourselves while getting our supplies ready for class. The principal Ms. Baney ( or now known as Mrs. Faxon because she married the janitor) was the absolute worst. One of the most racist people I have ever met! She made a point to let us Hispanic kids know that we were never to speak Spanish while we were in school. The Caucasian kids were always treated with respect. This school was traumatizing. I will never send my children to a private catholic school because of my terrible experience here. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because when I graduated and went to high school, I was very advanced academically. It definitely wasn't worth it. Years of verbal abuse and getting treated poorly was mentally scaring. Every single Hispanic/ Black kid I know that went here agrees with me. Do not send your kid here! read more
