Meeting up here for a free walking tour (even though the tour guide did not appear, perhaps because…read moreof the rain), I had a good opportunity to see the outside and the inside of this beautiful church as well as the lovely grounds. The first church was build here in 1803-1807 with the aid of public subscriptions and a government grant. That frame building was enlarged in 1818-19 and replaced by a larger one in 1831. The first incumbent was the Reverend George Okill Stuart, who served from 1800 to 1812 when he was succeeded by the Reverend John Strachan, later first bishop of Toronto. The second church was burnt in 1839. Toronto's first cathedral was then erected on this site but was destroyed by the great fire of 1849. The present cathedral was begun in 1850, opened for divine service in 1852 and completed in 1874. The structure is stunning, the interior is classic and peaceful. It is open to the public and you're welcome inside but please keep in mind as you do so that this is an active church so please be considerate of the other parishioners. This cathedral was so pretty that I took a lot of pictures. Lucky that we came early, and picked our seats from the front, otherwise, a lot of people were standing at the back the whole mass. They didn't open upstairs for the crowds, because they short staff. They didn't even have choir that night, because they only have student choir, and the 5pm mass on Christmas Day was added before Christmas. There were no one could be served, and the leader of the Choir he sang the songs whole night. And his voice was so nice. And the father also needed to sing by himself too. There are 4 daily masses weekdays, but the locations were too far for us to come. That's so sad. I would like to have masses in cathedrals if possible. We will definitely come again.

I have been in the young adult ministry of grace church for 6 months, but recently I decided to…read moreleave. There is a toxic culture of reporting each other in the YA. Many YA members say bad words of others to the leader and make the leader revenge the persons who had feud with them. Some volunteer workers also abuse power to retaliate other YA members, such as kick them out of messenger group or exclude them from group events. Last time I had a conflict with a YA member and he said bad words about me to the leader. The leader sent a threatening email to me and scolded me and said if I dare to do it again, he will ban me from grace church. I was chocked of his partial judgement. He even did not know the truth and the whole process of conflict. He just made an arbitrary judgement based on the slander. I have reported his misconduct to the senior pastor and hope he will handle it properly. But anyway I will not go to this church expecially its YA anymore. They are even not real christians. Their minds are full of hatred and malice. I feel it's not like a church, it's more like a police station or jail.

It's been by far one of the most enriching, knowledge satisfying and kindred churches I have ever been to in my life. Would definitely recommend to friends and family who are curious to know more about the Christian faith. Location The church is located on a busy intersection of college and Jarvis. There is a Tim Hortons across the street and Allan Gardens right next door. Getting to the church is somewhat convenient if you are talk the street car (stops right in front of the building) or if you live nearby (what a wonderful stroll). It is also just a few minutes to walk to from college subway station (although in winter the few minutes seems much more longer). Since I live uptown, I have been driving down to this church through Yonge street. Not as convenient as if it were located off the highway, however, there is plenty of free street parking on Sunday mornings nearby off the streets. Did I say parking was free?? Service Service starts at 10:30am and goes until noon. There is free coffee and cookies afterwards and an open gathering session for further dialogue with the pastor after service. The service start time is pretty ideal for me, not too early and not too late. The sermons are also not too long, which is great for someone who is unable to focus for too long. What stands out for me with service here is: first the worship band and music - the musicians here are quite talented; and the focus on the bible teachings within the sermons - this church is quite theologically advanced in comparison to some other churches I have been to. There are a few different pastors who preach which gives a great variety on the sermon styles. The main pastor is Pastor Dan MacDonald, who was previously a lawyer, so you will see his logical and rational style reflected in his sermons. What I love most about the sermons here, is that they always end with practical messages of how we can apply what we have heard into our lives. I also love the fact that the pastors are open to having Q and A sessions with the congregants, which is not typical of many churches. Atmosphere The atmosphere of this church is semi-relaxed, open and communal. They focus quite a bit on building communities with a number of small groups you can sign up for after service and regular social events that connect people with each other. There seems to be quite a large population of Young professionals who go to this church and diversity of church members is somewhat mixed. There is a sense of a strong structure in terms of the backbone to this church as they have an elders, diaconate groups and discipleship and membership town hall meetings. I think the fact that is Presbyterian is probably what gives a somewhat formal feel to this church. Building This location was first opened in October 2017 after what looked to be significant renovations to the interiors of the building to the original Old St. Andrew's Presbyterian church. This building is absolutely beautiful and was originally built in the 1800s by the same architect who built the other three churches in that same block of land that surround the Allen Gardens. The interiors include simple-yet-elegant features of stained-glass windows and the main sanctuary has absolutely beautiful arched ceilings. This building is a real work of art.

Last night, I helped out That Choir by working the door at one of their concerts held here, and wow. What a magnificent space with near flawless acoustics. It was a Remembrance Day concert so it was a secular event, and what a concert! What a venue! With all the feelgoodness of a Winnipeg Social, Panter's Pub was ready to get the party started with a warm and friendly host and crowd as well. And what would you think if you had an open bar with home made punch, Corona's on ice, craft beers, and snacks too? You would think you're in heaven, just like me!!

The square also includes a few separate buildings, a cafe, and a labyrinth path. What an interesting juxtaposition between spiritual solitude and capitalist worship! What a beautiful church…read more Jarvis Street Baptist Church is right beside The Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College. They work closely with one another. It's one of the oldest churches in the city, the congregation was founded in 1818. It's designed in Gothic Revival style. It was one of the first churches in Canada to be built with an amphitheatre-shaped interior. The building is decorated with ornaments at the top of every pitched roof. Gargoyles can be seen on the entrance doors, and rippled arches are engraved in the building. The congregation follows the Calvinistic Baptist theology. It is also a member of the Sovereign Grace Fellowship of Canada. In addition to community worship, visitation and prayer meetings, the church has a variety of study groups, fellowships and activities. There is Bible school for all ages, English as a second language (ESL) Bible studies, college and career seminars, the Kidz club for 5-17 year-olds, women and couples' fellowships, and street evangelisim. The church also has its own library known as the Bookroom.

I was back home for the Prepare the Ground music festival taking place from Friday-Sunday at a few different venues around Bloor, but I had the privilege of seeing Amenra, Pallbearer, and Oranssi Pazuzu at this venue. This beautiful and massive church was an insane place to see these bands as both the sound and visuals were absolutely perfect. I saw Amenra from the back of the first floor and saw everything just fine, while I enjoyed the other two bands from the second level and had a perfect view of everything taking place below. Overall, Trinity-St.Paul's United Church is one of the coolest venues I've ever seen metal bands play and these sets will definitely be remembered for a very long time. I can't wait for next years festival already!
