The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. We spent time moving through the space, taking in the soaring ceilings, detailed stonework, stained glass windows, and rows of arches that create a beautiful setting drawing attention in every direction. We found ourselves spending more time walking through the cathedral than we originally expected because there were so many architectural details and smaller chapels to admire. Even without visiting for religious reasons, the artistry and design made the stop feel intentional rather than just a quick look inside. Despite welcoming a large number of visitors each day, the cathedral still maintains a peaceful atmosphere. People naturally speak more quietly, and it never felt overly chaotic during our visit. The alter has been brought down to the center of the beautiful historic building. The parishioners sit in a semi circle around the alter. The priests and chorus are behind. I was on the side today but felt included. The mass is modern and prayers for everything and everyone. If you want something/someone included during mass you just fill out a paper and let them know. The mass is simple. The responses are sung. I enjoy the chorus. My friend is in the chorus. In fact my family has attended this church in the past. I've got a lot of musicians in my family that made their living playing orchestra in the shows. But that's another story! The church design and decor are so beautiful. There are a lot of angels painted on the the walls. They do not mind picture taking. I'll go back for service and take pictures of the Angels I'm sure!! I see people of every age, elderly, middle age, people in work uniforms, small children, college age, teens and expectant mothers. You name it everyone is covered. They have plenty of room for strollers to be wheeled in the back. Parents walk and rock to quiet babies during service. I find their dedication to attend mass inspiring. Dress is not important. I saw one girl in zebra print work out pants. What I'm trying to say is, this is not an elitist church like some I attend. It's not a wealthy Parrish I'm sure. They pass the baskets two times for donations. I highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood!! Visitors are welcome.

With exception to the European pastor, I have always been impressed with the pastors here as they have been entertaining, witty, and very lively during their sermons. The place may look small from the outside but easily fits a solid crowd of perhaps 200-300. Their choir is decent, but don't appear all that frequently. Whats certain for sure is they definitely have money as their song pamplets are printed out the DAY of, in color, with legible fonts, and a decent layout. I hope they recycle because that stuff is by no means cheap. Beats using a cheap ol psalms book I suppose.

I was very early and rang the bell for 110-06 turned out it was the church's office. The church staff told me that the main entrance of the church for the wedding ceremony is on Ascan Ave. Also, I asked if my dad can park in the parking lot because it will be difficult to find because we are the strip of Austin Street. My dad waited in the parking lot while I attended my friend's wedding. Why am I giving 3 stars because during the ceremony...all the wedding guests can hear lawn mowing outside of the church grounds. I really hope the videographer can do his magic to remove or cover over that sound. Wow to the person whose phone kept going off then holding a conversation for 5 seconds. You can show some respect for my friends special moment as we witnessed their holy matrimony. I actually had to Google what does receiving a line from the Bride and Groom because this was my very first church wedding ceremony for over a decade. As we hugged the bride + groom + their family then everyone waited outside. Blowing bubbles was the more modern and fun way than throwing rice to congratulate the newlyweds. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Morgan!

My former love, disappointedly, refuse to register at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs as members. Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church is located on "Boulevard of Death" and Ascan Avenue is Queens' largest Catholic Cathedral residing one square block. Gorgeous stained glass windows including Rosetta windows adorn the church, and abbey stone arch doors. I would occassionally pop inside for a prayer and seek Holy Water which the grounds are well maintained.

Actually, I'm not sure here is a first floor, just a basement level where the congregation meets after service for coffee and cookies. There were about three people seated at 10:55 AM and then a big rush at 11:00 AM and then a slower progression for year next 15 minutes. Maybe close to 40 people eventually. No large stain-glassed windows, no chorus, a simple service guide, and very different from St. Bart's or St. Patrick's cathedral. The pastor is again down to earth and referenced YouTube. I enjoyed today, but if you are looking for something fancier, stick to midtown.

Due to its gargantuan size and old world architecture, Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) is more on the lines of basilica status, which in church terms is as grand as it gets. I have only been here a couple of times, but each experience was a bit like stepping back in time. While many churches in the area tend to slant more modern, OLPH shines with its dated look. The main church is cathedral worthy and the lower church functions quite well as opposed to other basement layouts. Yet there are subtle things, such as the shiny floors and lighting. It's not a bright church in the least, but the interior has the ambiance of a concert hall with a bit of antiquity. It sounds a little crazy, but one just has to see this place at both day and night and not see the same thing. In terms of things I think that could be better, I've seen them go overtime often and I wish they'd update the rows and pews. Knees are sore just typing this. In terms of the mass schedule, it's as versatile as I've seen anywhere. There are Sunday masses in English, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), and Vietnamese. They split time between the main church and lower level, which means folks don't have to miss out on anything.
