I hate talking about people like this but the smell that was coming from her and the attitude that i was greeted with first thing definitely made me never want to be a patient there. This is not the standard that you expect from a private hospital, needless to say i wont be back and I would not recommend it to anyone else. Situated inside Woodside Health Centre, this place is usually packed out (especially through grizzly, germ ridden winters) but you're never kept waiting too long. There's a few seats for those waiting, and the personable staff always treat you with respect, even if you look like the flu has run you over. You're not kept fidgeting in the waiting room for long as you can usually pick up your prescription within minutes before being sent on your way. Tablets here are always in ample supply. Whenever I've been here in discomfort I've been dealt with almost instantly meaning I can retreat back to my sick bed in peace. That's all you ask for when you're feeling under the weather!

There are 4 GP partners at the practice including nurses. I believe because of Government changes the nurses will not be based at the surgery anymore and will be elsewhere in Hamilton. I did have my flu jag last month and it was still within the surgery, I will need to keep checking to find out. I've been here that often that even before I get to the counter the receptionist gives me a nod. They know me, too well me thinks. Eep! Och to be honest it is nice, they are friendly and it shows they know their clients. Ive always managed to get what I've needed from the doctors and been cured by their good advice and prescribed medication, the majority of the time. There is a couple of unusual things about this surgery. 1. They do have music playing in the waiting area but it plays through a phone on the wall. This also doubles up for the doctor to call you. The music is usually catered for the older generation and it's so muffled sounding, well it is playing through the speaker phone. 2. My doctor has a dog who lies underneath his desk. He has a reason and there's signs up saying why the dog is there, I can't remember why but it's all above board. It is quite nice when you see its wee nose poking under the desk giving your feet a wee sniff. Another couple of things to note is that you can only book an appointment on the day, so call at 8am to make sure you get one as they go quick. They changed it to this system to reduce the amount of missed appointments. Also the only open for a half day on Wednesdays as the afternoons as I believe it's the baby clinc. Apart from these unusual things it's a pretty good doctors.

While, these harbours of refuge - or at least supplies - will probably no longer exist when full blown decrepency hits me. I remain in a position to be able to highlight these for others. So, this is why I've chosen to comment on this place. It's relatively small and, for the majority of people, more than a little out of their way. Nonetheless, this is an excellent South Side business. It is well run and organised with well trained staff who are friendly, knowledgeable and extremely customer friendly. Hence, they are quickly and accurately listen to a problem and then recommend the best products with the best suited benefits to them. Much like, I did with comfortable shoes, but I suspect this shop is a little more tricky. You see, it deals with hearing aids and hearing difficulties. A particularly difficult trade and set of customers to easily converse with. Despite this, I have had many good reports (going well into double figures) from other of the most demanding customers in Scotland. Bravo. Thus, I can say that this business provides the following services and does so well: expertise in digital hearing; free consultation; competitive prices; a local location (for those living in the South Side) and a non-sales focused customer service/delivery. If all of the above is not enough, many people will also be happy to know that this is an independently owned and run Scottish business, which is nice in today's globalism consumerism. Moreover, it also indicates the high standard of their service, products and quality.

I know some of you are probably wondering where Jackson and Ross have gone- thats what the surgery used to be called but Dr Ross had a baby and left! I only know becase they were changing the signs when i was there and someone asked the receptionist and she said. They are NHS doctors and offer the usual services including a blood pressure machine in the waiting room for which there is no charge. Also their magazines in the waiting room arent too bad.- a lot of Take a Breaks! I only visited twice when I worked in Glasgow but as ive lived all over the country I can assure you doctors are basically the same everywhere!

She has been visiting Margaret Roy for a number of years, and took me along one day when I had been long suffering period pains. I didn't believe that this would work, and looked at her a little oddly as she popped a pill on my tongue and told me to let it dissolve. My mum handed over £30 or so quid which I thought was unreal for one teeny pill, and we left. I have to be honest here, and say that I didn't have nearly half as bad a time with my period pain that month as I usually did, which was a huge relief, and I was amazed! It actually seemed to help for a few months and from then on, I was converted to herbal. I am not saying this would work for everyone, and I know that it's expensive so there is no way I could have made a regular visit to Roy, but I would say don't knock it till you've tried it. I certainly would consider herbal remedies if I was at the end of my tether again.

In particular the long hours in front of computer screens or behind the wheel of delivery vehicles seems to have physically taken a toll on many of my staff. Having lost a lot of man hours to back pain related absences, employee stress and even one case of carpal tunnel syndrome, I decided it was time to call in the professionals. I decided to see if there was anything in this corporate massage I keep hearing about, but wishing to avoid being ripped off by some Johnny-Come-Lately company that might have just jumped on the bandwagon, I did my homework. The oldest company of this kind that I could find in Scotland had been established only three and a half years ago, which did not fill me with confidence. However, when I looked at their pedigree I realised that this one was a cut above the rest - Total Therapy Group, based in Central Glasgow and Edinburgh, seems to be the only company of its kind to have been taken on by the NHS itself - now, I have personal experience of how picky the NHS can be, and know they are NOT generally impressed by alternative health, but their references all checked out, so the company seemed to be off to a good start. Their other clients were fairly impressive too - the BBC, Scottish Health at Work and Edinburgh University to name a few. Next I had a look at their service offerings - no 5 minute neck rubs here - every one of their staff was a time served therapist who, between them, could give my employees everything from Reflexology to nutritional advice. Finally, what if one of my staff got injured? What level of insurance did these people have? Well apparently £3 million per therapist from their official regulating body the FHT. Good enough for me! So, I booked the company to come in and treat my staff - and what a good decision it turned out to be. Every therapist was a time served professional, with mental and physical healthcare knowledge to rival Jung or Grey. Not only were they able to treat each of my staff in the therapy of their choosing, they were able to follow each treatment up with personalised advice on what they could be doing in their general life to avoid encountering their respective health problems in the future. Upon my enquiry I was also given advice on good ergonomics companies who might be able to provide better seating and desks to keep my staff from further discomfort - at no point was the service upsold to me, and it was only when I specifically asked them that I was told they not only had a team of ergonomics experts, but a product line of furniture and a further team of high calibre physiotherapists to boot! Basically this company has turned my business' working environment around. I have happier staff, higher productivity and FAR fewer sick days. The whole thing has paid for itself many times over. Well done Total Therapy Group - you've changed this old cynic's mind about workplace massage!
