Okay, it was a bit of a hike from our hotel, but it was certainly worth it, even if it was just for the atmosphere. Mind you, when I first saw it after stepping out of the alley (and being warmly greeted by some guys standing there), I could see that this was definitely a pretty popular bar, and when we ended up chatting with one of the patrons for most of the night it certainly left an impression on me that is going to stay for quite a while. As I said to one of them, why go to a foreign country when you are not going to mix with the locals - that is one of the best ways to actually experience other places (though of course there are those who simply treat them like museum pieces and spectacles).

We came back after dinner for the free jazz, which started at 9 that night. We got there around 8:30 so that we could get a seat inside. The tables are very close together, as they must like to pack them in for the performances. They have more chairs stacked in the corner, though there was no more space to put people in those chairs. You have to go to the bar for service when there is a performance, which becomes problematic as it gets more crowded. There is a sign that requests silence during performances, though there were several who were chatting quietly throughout. There's a nice little courtyard for the smokers, which is covered in the evenings. They have a few snacks, but it's all about the beer and drinks.

This is a single room restaurant with 7 seat bar and 11 tables inside. Plus an outdoor seating area in front. The atmosphere is very rustic with deep rich brown walls and lighter brown wood floors with a rouge celling and front accent wall. Soft music/ blues playing in the background; soft enough to have a nice conversation, or just sit and sip your wine (not that it has to be wine, as they have bier and spirits as well. Photos of famous blues musicians decorate their walls. Server with limited English, but that worked fine with our limited French...lol. We started with the house white, which has a lovely grapefruit bouquet with a sweet fruity taste; unfortunately too sweet for me, so I poured that into my wife's glass. I then ordered a house red, and wham the red was sensational! We had their cheese salad and shrimp skewers... wow fantastic!!! The open mike night is incredible, with a rock solid opening band that then backs up solo musicians.
