I've been away for more than six months and this cafe's improvements have really elevated the Gordon St. John Ave precinct. We came here bright and early at 6am for breakfast. So bonus points for opening this early to cater to workers and people dealing with jet lag. We had muesli, French toast, big pan bf and warm flaky croissant. Every one was presented to us not only nicely but they also tasted great. Muesli was homemade, crunchy, well toasted with a good mix of nuts and dried fruit. The accompanying fresh fruit was of generous proportion too. French toast was made with their own baguette with sides of banana and syrup. Big bf was huge with eggs, 2 sausages, greens, mushrooms, bacon and a side of baguette. Croissant was fresh out of the oven and something to die for! We had 2 skim lattes which were average as it wasn't hot enough for our taste. I would return again and again but the breakfast did cost quite a bit so it will be for special weekends or a treat.

Looking for the out of the way cafes, out of the corner of my eye I spotted this cafe down the hill…read moreopposite the CBA. Called the Little Gem, I had to see if they truly were. Checking out the menu it became apparent quite quickly that apart from the genuinely friendly service, that this cafe offered good value. With a $9.90 big breaky on offer when some cafes are charging $17, is a huge difference. On closer inspection nearly every item on their menu is under $10...!! As for the coffee...it feels like it was made with love, which I like, but it was quite over espressed with too much milk froth. That said, it was not horrendous by any means. So if you are looking for a place to chill out and P&R is packed out, why not drop in and try them out? But first I wanted to take a quick moment to let Sydney know about you. How, although you're in Gordon, a trip I across suburbs, or even the bridge, should not be a problem for none-the-wiser people once they know about you and your wife Cindy's incredible hospitality and great spirit and cheekiness and overall talent. I also wanted to let them know that I started eating muffins (no I was not born under a rock I just had great discipline) because of you and those greatly delectable muffins that you used to have. It's true that you don't have them anymore and I can't lie, they were my favourite thing in the world, but I will say that your substitute muffins almost hit the spot as well. I also want to mention that Matt loves your egg breakfast as well and he'll be with me when I get there. Say hi to Cindy and also mum says hello! See you soon.
