I'm one of those people that my hair has to be perfect when I walk out the door. Friends, family and co-workers all used to laugh and make jokes because of the way I am about my hair... the point being I am obsessive about my hair and who cuts it. My wife and I moved to Alexandria 9 months ago which meant I needed to find another barber. So I've been trying different shops every month and nobody came close to replacing my long time stylist in the town we just moved from, until today. Oddly enough I was standing in the checkout line in Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago and I noticed a man wearing a shirt that had Stanley's Mens Parlor printed on it. I introduced myself and asked him if he was the owner and he said no, but that he worked there.. I told him I was very " old school " about my hair and he told me he was an old school barber, so I scheduled an appointment. After sitting in his chair we talked about how I wanted my hair cut and he went to work. When he was through cutting my hair, he shaved the back of my neck and then cleaned me up with an old fashion hot towel. when I stood up and looked in the mirror I was amazed. This was the best haircut I have received in years. My barber, Bobby was great! He did a wonderful job and his prices are more than reasonable. So after trying barber after barber for the last 8 months or so, I have found the one I'm sticking with. Found this place through google search looking for a place to cut my 4 year old sons hair. My family and I were in town visiting my parents so we decided to give this place a try. My sons haircut came out fine. Upon entering as the previous gentleman stated the receptionist has been on personal phone calls each time I have been here and not friendly. When I previously brought my son I noticed about five stylist that was sitting around so I assumed they could trim my daughters hair hence the reason for the second visit. I walked in, was not greeted because the receptionist was on her cell phone. One of the five stylist walks over and asks can they help us. I said just cut the ends, nothing special. She takes my daughters hair down from the pony tail and calls another stylist over to discuss how to proceed because my daughter hair is curly. She tells her to just straighten my daughters damp hair. Umm NO! I get up and tell her No she says well I'm trying to figure out if I should wash it then cut. She reaches over and grabs a brush. I ask her are you about to try and brush my daughter hair out dry and she says yes!!! I told her don't worry about the cut and left. I'm by far no stylist but I would have assumed they would of washed my daughters hair, combed, then cut the ends. I've had my hair cut here the last 5 times or so, I've had a different person cut my hair each time and I've been satisfied. I even brought my nephews here to fix bad hair cuts recently. I don't mean to be snide toward the previous posters, but I think this place cuts hair well (though I've never had the pleasure of an international shave) and I've always been taken care of promptly, as I always sign in when I come in so no one thinks I came in with a friend. I've not ever had to wait a full five minutes so far. I just wish they were opened an hour later than they are! read more

This is just my experience. Another gentleman and I pulled up together at the same time so I opened the door for him and allowed him to enter first....here is where it gets interesting....the lady at the counter was on her phone texting or F/b while the gentleman signed in. I took a seat to watch how everything was going to play out. Now there were 5 hair stylist but only one was cutting hair. The lady at the counter asks him if there is anyone in particular that he wanted to use and he said the first person would be fine....crickets! It was almost as if everyone was too busy to cut his hair. Im thinking to myself, It's your turn for the same kind of service; so I just sat there for a minute typing on my phone. No one ever acknowledged my presences and I must have sat there for 5 minutes.....it's not like I had ordered a Togo lunch; I was freakin there to get a hair cut. One of the ladies that I assumed worked there was sitting the stylist chair across from where I was sitting and never said a word. I got up and walked out. The lady at the counter just looked at me when I got into my car like I was an idiot. I don't think I will ever be back. This is a new place from where they were before and the service is no different in my opinion. I thought maybe they moved because the ownership/management had changed but apparently not. read more

Never again. I generally make a point not to write bad reviews but I struggle to give this place one star. I travel the world and have shaves all over the place. This was the worst experience I have ever had. It gets a star because my beard is mostly lined up. The barber was so busy with talking to everyone else, I believe she forgot that she actually had a real life human in her chair. So much so that she never noticed the shaving cream I had to constantly wipe out of my eyes because she never noticed. That bic razor was going 100 mph on my head with not thought to razor burn. The final towel had a very distinct smell. The smell of mildew. Then when she was done, she just kicked me out her chair without me even getting to inspect her work. While I was paying, she finally realized what she had done and brought me back to straighten some things out from that rush job. If you want a haircut, not a bad place. If you want a place to relax and have a half way good experience, do NOT go there. You are no more than a number of heads they are trying to get done. She actually complained to the barber next to her that her daily quota was down. Must be why she forgot I was even there. Gotta make that quota!!! Never again read more
