We booked a deluxe double bed room with 2 doubles for a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children. Refrigerator with free fresh milk and bottles of water (both sparkling and flat). Very fast internet. Comfy beds and very quiet although our room was next to the street. Strong pressure shower and thick toilet paper. Worth every penny booking the business direct rate which includes free parking, full English/continental breakfast, £20 food credit at cafe ethos, early checkin at 2pm and late checkout at 1pm and an Oxford city card that includes a 10% discount to Oxford castle and many more. Can park in front of the cafe or there's a private lot behind the cafe. If you have a midsize car or suv, it might be difficult for you to park in the back. Staff doesn't always pick up the phone but if you stop by the cafe, they will get a hold of the front desk staff for you. We used the food credit to get 2 pizzas at the cafe. Pizzas were quite yummy! Breakfast had a nice spread of continental buffet and made to order items. Easy 15 min walk to city center. Would stay again!

It's located in a quiet neighborhood. At first it was not clear where to check-in, (if you go it's in the café). The ladies I dealt with most of my visit (Bushra & Claudia) were very pleasant. They were nice welcoming faces to come back to each day. The room I had (directly above the Café) was bigger than anticipated (not a bad thing). It's technically like your own mini-apartment. Queen bed, bathroom with tub, kitchen (no stove or microwave) mini-fridge & sink, table and sofa. I loved all the windows! It is a bit quirky, not necessarily in a bad way, you need to know there is no lift, so with my heavy/large suitcase this was a bit challenging, there is no phone in the room so you have to use your mobile to reach the hotel staff, the light over the bathroom sink didn't work, and it could use a bit of work/deep cleaning (water gets all over the floor when showering)...however, it was still quite quaint (maybe not as much for the price). The bigger downfall for me was the breakfast, it can get busy and with only one person working I think she seemed quite frazzled and it came off as rude. I pre-paid £10 for a hot breakfast each day and the first day was the only day I could get that since it was the only quiet day, the next 2 days I got cereal since it was almost impossible to get a coffee never mind ordering something hot. I even tried getting a take-away cup one day for tea and received quite the bit of attitude from her....I paid £10 and only got cereal! Luckily there was a gentleman who saw this logic as well and provided the cup for me. (to be fair, I was heading to work each morning, so I did not have an hour for breakfast, If I was on Holiday I suppose I could have waited longer for service) I know I was not the only guest who felt like this since a few of us chatted a bit about it. Nonetheless, I slept quite well and this is probably the main purpose of a hotel so I was very happy to feel rested each morning.

You get a sense of history as soon as you enter, because just in front of the reception desk there is a glass panel in the floor, which reveals a piece of Roman mosaic below. We visited for a two-night break in February. Our stay was a little coloured by the fact that the hotel had gone into administration (but was still functioning). One downside was that we were not able to take advantage of the booked car parking, and had to use a public car park about five minutes walk away. This was not a particular problem, because we were able to use the drop off space by the hotel front door to drop our luggage, but it did mean we had a five minute walk to get to the car. On the plus side, the hotel is right in the middle of the market Square, so it is very convenient for visiting this attractive and historic market town. The room was very comfortable, with a generous king size double bed, although the mattress and pillow was a little hard for my liking. We had a huge shower room, with nice toiletries provided, as well as bathrobes, fluffy white towels, and bath slippers. The room also had TV and a kettle and coffee making machine so we could make our own beverages in the morning. The corridor outside had quite squeaky floors (typical of an old building), but this did mean that we got a little noise from the other guests. We also had a room at the back of the hotel, which meant we had a view of another part of the hotel. Breakfast was a buffet, with hot dishes to order. The Continental buffet was a little bit limited, but I suspect this was a facet of the hotel going into administration, as there were not a lot of guests staying when we were there. There was a sufficient choice of cereals, fruit, and pastries for our needs, but it wasn't as bigger choice as many hotels we have stayed in. The cooked English breakfasts (one vegetarian) were perfectly decent, and generous in quantity, and cooked to order. The restaurant was not open during our stay, but we were in the low season. This was not a problem, as there are plenty of options for eating within a short walk at the hotel. But it means we cannot review the evening menu. Staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout.

You can get a great deal for a Sunday stay on the hotel website, which is what I did because it worked with my travel. I didn't know the entire town closed up, but would return for a Sunday stay anyway if they offered the same deal. Rooms are clean, bath tubs/shower large, and the food very good. The staff are really helpful and make you feel welcome.

For the literary among you - this is Three Men in a Boat Jerome K Jerome territory. The menu change regularly and so are a nice mix of seasonal / daily produce. The wine list is small but good. But best of all, and the reason I keep returning, is the al fresco dining in the summer. Eating great food, drinking great wine, while sitting on the bansk fo a beautiful stretch of The Thames is as good as it gets! They also have rooms - but luckily for me I live near here so I don't care!

The room itself was nicely decorated with a desk (spotty wifi service though) and a good size bathroom, with a powerful water pressure. Loved the toiletries provided. No air condition, but you can open the windows and use the provided fan. The restaurant downstairs was like the only happening place after 8pm. Good selection of beers and excellent desserts and service. The included breakfast was so filling and very tasty. Lots of food on one plate! Would happily recommend this place for a stay in Cirencester.

We just got back from a lovely two night stay here. We stayed in "the stables," which are a few…read moresuites off to the side of the main house. The property is well kept and spotless. The main rooms themselves were spot on and even better than the photos. They had the perfect rustic barn feeling. The bathrooms were huge but the design did not go at all with the aesthetic of the rest of the hotel/room. The tub and bathroom walls were covered with this ugly black tile and the sinks were this worn wood/bamboo. My favorite area was probably the dining room which over looks their beautiful gardens. There is seating outside for non rainy days. Breakfast is not to be missed. They have the basic spread of fresh fruit, cereals, juices, and pastries. The main thing keeping it from being five stars for me would be the amount of information they leave for you are the guest to figure out. When we arrived we were assisted with our luggage but there was no offer to provide tour or general explanation of the property or amenities ( spa, bar in the main house, bikes, maps of trails to bike or walk etc.) I was not familiar with a "turn down" service so I was confused as to why there were people lurking outside my door before dinner. We ended up borrowing their two of their bikes and taking a little ride around the area. It was very scenic and there were lots of sheep and horses to see. I also got a facial treatment at the spa which is tucked away behind the garden. The spa is really small but cute. I was really happy with the microdermabrasion. They also had an outdoor pool area which I didn't get a chance to try. This place is definitely pricey but if you are looking for a private, quiet, romantic get-away, this place is it.

My mother kept going on about how it felt wierd and she didnt like it but I just told her she was crazy and it was just a dark wierd shaped room. We had a view of the dumpster outside so we kept the curtains shut. The TV was also out of order. We asked them to fix it while we left to town. We come back to a still broken TV and they offered to move us to another room which we happily accepted. We were moved to room 12. This room was on the other side of the pub upstairs and we felt like we were in a different hotel. The room was bright and white and slightly bigger and normally shaped. We both slept more comfortably. Breakfast is included and was a choice of cerials, tea and coffee and a cooked English breakfast. We had dinner in the pub the first night which was alright but not amazing. The ice cream trio was the best part. I'd reccomend eating dinner at the Italian across the street. Overall the service is pretty slow, the rooms weren't very clean and after the first night nobody had brought fresh towls or made the bed or anything. We had put the dirty towls on the floor and they somehow just got hung up.. Gross.. Lol.

By this stage it was 14:05 At first they were not willing to serve us food, but they relented and because the chef had not left the building they were willing to serve us either of the roasts on offer that day, but nothing from the main menu. We had two non-meat eaters in our party of five, roast was not an option for them. But they kindly served two vegetable lasagnes after some pleading. So a hotel that only serves Sunday lunch between 12:00 and 14:00. I think this is a bit ridiculous to be honest. But perhaps they cannot afford to keep the kitchen open and its staff for longer. I can only speculate. Oh, the food did arrive really quickly. I went for the roast beef. The meat was fine. The veg was overcooked and the Yorkshire pudding just meh. It was only £7.95 (I think). So you get what you paid for. They gained one star because they did feed us in the end, even though it was after 14:00. Otherwise it would have been a one star review.
