TBH I read a lot of reviews bashing this place but hear me out. I ordered this place from postmates last week and let me tell you, the flavor of the sauce is ON POINT! This is probably the closest I'll get to Boiling Crab. I ordered a pound of peeled shrimp, medium with my sauce on the side and it was fire!!! The potatoes were creamy the corn was good the sausage was iiight but I'm not a huge sausage fan. Overall - it was soooo good. I'm definitely going to order from here again. I also tried the other seafood spot (Seafood and Crawfish) and Star Crab is way better IMO. I am going to try the king crab legs from here and update my review. Truth be told upon arrival I thought it was gonna be an amazing family experiences how it didn't seem like they were busy. The young lady at the front was too busy twirling her hair and looking at her device. After 15mins we got seated and requested 1.5lbs of headless shrimp but sadly got less than a pound. First time trying this place. We ordered shrimp and crawfish through Yelp (Grubhub) for takeout. The place seemed busy and very lively on a weekend evening which is a good sign. When we got home only the shrimp was in the bag. The food tasted great but we were just bummed we didn't get a chance to try the crawfish. The next day we went in to let them know. Thankfully we took pictures of the receipt from Grubhub and the restaurant food we picked up. The hostess and manager were super friendly and helpful about the mix up. Great staff they are friendly. I had mild spice garlic butter and hubby had full house clams and shrimp medium spice. They are really good but was a little bit salty for me. Their cajun fries is great. Their rice though..... Disappointing. Super hard and just not cooked rice. Hope they change how they cook their rice. I took my boyfriend here for a birthday lunch, and have not previously gone here. In fact, I didn't even know what they served, really, regardless of the fact that I've been getting Pho right next door to them for ages! I have to say, their menu is wonderfully basic. Why is a basic menu 'wonderful'? Because sometimes simplicity is best-- you do a handful of things and do them well. It's a great secret that a lot of restaurants don't always understand. This place stuck to seafood and basic sides and did a pretty good job! We were a group of 3 and got the "#4 Blue Star" with cajun sauce. The bag was super large and heavy, with delicious sauce, good crab and crawfish. The only thing that draws this back a little is the clams and mussels were not cleaned as well as they could have been-- we got more grit than I think was necessary. One of my group is usually a pretty big eater, and we still had a ton left over-- the waitress bagged it up for us to take home. The service was mediocre, and while the waitresses disappeared a lot, and could learn to be more attentive, we were often busy cracking open shells like a bunch of cavemen to notice during the meal unless our drinks ran out and we were drowning in spicy cajun sauce. Improving the level of service could improve this review, but I otherwise recommend this place. Parking can be a pain, so make sure to pick your visit time appropriately (I imagine lunch is a madhouse). read more

This was my first time at Star Crab. We went for Father's Day and was told the wait was 40 minutes. We got seated much faster than that because our party was smaller/was all present. They say that your party has to be present to be seated. We got the Blue Star which includes two blue crabs, a pound of shrimp, a pound of crawfish, a pound of green mussels and a pound of clams. We substituted the clams for another pound of shrimp for another dollar. It also came with corn, sausage, and potatoes. We got our appetizer (fried okra) relatively quick. We were extremely hungry. However there was a bit of a wait for our actual food, which is understandable because we got a big order. The sauce was good! Sauces are a hit or miss for me and I really liked their sauce. Everything tasted good. The one complaint we had was that one of the crabs we received was black inside! We told the server and she informed the cooks to make us another one. The replacement crab was better inside. The crabs were kind of mushy on the inside though, like they were over cooked. Overall it was a good experience. The service was kind of on the slow side, but it was Father's Day so they were probably just busy. I'd definitely come back again. read more

Waited two weeks to drive to riverside to eat this. Ordered a takeout order of just shrimp and potatoes on my way home. Waited to get home (30 mins) to open because it's too messy to eat in the car and noticed my potatoes had mud on them. It was in the bag with the shrimp and I don't feel okay eating. I can't believe they would prepare their potatoes this way . even more disappointing that when I called , the manager Christine was rude... she said I had to bring the food back same day in order for them to do something... there is no way to accept pictures she said .... THIS IS A 0 STAR REVIEW. SEVICE IS AWFUL. I called ahead, they tell me they can seat me, great see you in 5 minutes. I get there they tell me they can't seat me. I let them know they wasted my time and my gas due to Me driving to this establishment based off of the information they HAD JUST gave me. The hostess response was there's nothing she can do about that, customers have to take the fall for their mistakes. When I asked to speak with a manager nobody was available of course. Honestly better than boiling crab in my opinion! Wait times aren't as long and they move fast to take you off it plus they provide fast service! it's very affordable and family friendly. I ordered a pound of med lemon pepper and added corn and potatoes. Usually one pound fills me and my friend up, but if you order 2 pounds then they give you the corn for free in your shrimp bag. You must order their cajun fries they are soooo BOMB! Plus big portion served always. I always add an additional of white rice and it's all very filling. Usually I ask for extra sauce from the shrimp and dump it in my rice and I eat it. For me to be giving a place like Star Crab a 5 star review, it is a wonderment. You see, I steer clear of places like this. I usually do not like the sauce or the seafood. And this time, I liked both. Correction. I loved both. You see, we had two birthdays to celebrate. My son and my daughter (born almost exactly 6 years apart) both wanted this kind of feast. We usually have a similar ritual we do at home, at our own dining room table, covered with newspaper for easy cleanup. And our meal has much tamer flavors, boiled in beer and Old Bay spices. And seriously gobbled down with lots of melted butter. But we did not want the mess and hassle this year for sundry reasons. The son had already been here several times and insisted we try it. So, whole shrimp and whole Dungeness crabs in their "full house, mild" sauce was our alternative. With very little wait, our un-dainty order started arriving at our paper-covered table. First, two appetizers - fried oysters and raw oysters laced with ponzu sauce. Then, out came four plastic bags of steaming hot, red, thick sauce, two filled with shrimp (head and all) and spicy sausage, two with whole, uncracked crabs. We were handed some small scissors to snip away at the soft shells (this worked well) and some shell crackers for the crab (didn't work at all) and we were on our own. Oh yes. And we were offered some plastic gloves and bibs to keep those of us who felt inclined, properly clean. This is definitely a juicy, messy project, so take them seriously. And there were tons of lemon wedges and small plastic containers of a salt and pepper mix nearby. No S&P shakers here for obvious reasons.. I dreaded my first slippery bite. I just knew it was going to be overcooked, and overly spicy, and I would leave the restaurant still hungry and feeling like my lips and tongue had been injected with Novocain. But it never happened. And I humbly admit I was terribly wrong. The shrimp was tender and tasty. The sliced sausage, fabulous. The crabs, sweet (although a lot of work for so little reward IMHO). The sauce, so flavorful. All in all, our party of 6 decimated three pounds of shrimp, two crabs, two orders of fried oysters, and a platter of 8 raw oysters. But this time I did not sit and watch as the others stuffed their faces. Me come away hungry? Hah! And best of all, my tongue and lips still had feeling in them, only slightly impaired. Now, not all was perfection. I would not go back for the fried oysters. They were ordinary and anti-climactic after my first bite of shrimp. However, the fries that came with the oysters, those were addictive. Not your ordinary fries, sort of like they were dusted with a spicy, seasoned flour before frying because they had a bubbly, crispy outer coating. And just so you know, after everyone declared their undying love for the house sauce (and there was an abundance), we decided to consolidate the leftover sauce and bring it home to our freezer. They were in plastic bags that were just going to be tossed anyway, and besides, nobody said we couldn't. So.... now we can have one more tasty seafood feast in the comfort of our own home. Shhhh! All being said, this place you can blow through some good money. For over $160 we fed 6 grown adults and two small children. And no leftovers. Not real pricy, not real cheap. But everyone was well fed and walked away happy. A great place for a family feast with personality. My boyfriend and I came here on a weekend night for dinner. Either we came at the wrong time/day or something, since the server told us that they were "understaffed." I could definitely tell that this was going to be a one-time trip. Why? We arrived at the door to be seated, however we were not given menus until we asked about 5 minutes later. Not only that, but we weren't served water until we had to ask them again. In addition, we were not asked for our orders until maybe 15 minutes in. Yes, and do you know what is even worse? We were told within that time that "they would be back right away," but they never came. Not only that, but there was another server working at the time and she would spend most of her time at a few select tables, chatting away with the customers while my boyfriend and I did not get our orders and water. Furthermore, the Manager had to be the one to get our order. It took an additional 15-20 min to finally get our food. We ordered the fries and 2 lbs of shrimp. Since we were already starving 30 minutes since we walked into the restuarant - I would have to say that the taste was all right. For a location that does not value customer service, I would have to say - sorry, but I am not coming here again. read more

I have been ordering from this place for a few years now because the food is phenomenal. I have had no complaints, until recently I noticed the customer service here has gone down tremendously. There is always a long wait for phone orders, and inside the restaurant in general as they are typically busy which I didn't mind because the food is amazing so I figured it's worth the wait. However, tonight I actually got hung up on in the middle of a phone order, then when I called back I was placed on hold and forgotten about for several minutes, nobody returned to the phone to finish my order. I tried calling back a third time only to find out the phones are off the lines, impossible to place an order. I have been a loyal customer for years, so I'm very disappointed. Located in a small strip mall by the Tyler Galleria, this hole in the wall restaurant is a great place to satisfy your Cajun seafood cravings! I called in a togo order for a pound of shrimp and ordered it mild with the full house sauce. By the time I got there, everything was all ready. The cashier/waiter at the front was friendly and welcoming, so that was a plus. On the menu, it says they include sauce in the weight, which made me think that there would be an overload of the sauce and not much shrimp. When I pulled the bag out there wasn't too much sauce and there were 16 shrimps inside (yes, I counted). The bag was double bagged and neatly twisted so that the sauce would not get everywhere. Inside there were also a stack of napkins and a small container of fresh limes. Super generous! The shrimps were nice and meaty. They were also pretty good quality. It wasn't mushy or overcooked, but just right. The shells came right off upon peeling and there was no difficulty. The sauce was a little watery and not too spicy, but the flavor was there and tasted very good overall. Maybe next time I'll try the medium spice. I enjoyed the shrimps and felt it was worth what I paid. On top of eating the shrimps with the sauce, I squeezed a few limes into the salt and pepper for a tangy kick. The total came out to $13 even for one pound of shrimp. Will be back soon for some more yummy Cajun shrimp! read more
