You can tell he's familiar with a ton of different short haircutting techniques, and uses them well. He's also good with shape and framing your face. You'll feel at ease, because he's really good. He did a dry cut with shears, texturizing shears and point cutting. Neck shave. Product or oil applied afterward. He's easy to talk to, and quick. No reason to fear visiting a new barber anymore. Try Jeroen. He won't let you down. The details: Got to Amsterdam after letting my hair get a little too long before I left the states. I have a VERY hard time finding anyone to cut my hair properly. It's tricky. It used to be thick and curly with a weird, Eddie Munster (vampire) type hairline. Short, thick, curly hair is hard to cut in general, but now that I'm older, it's still thick and wavy in places and thinner in others, which makes it even tougher to solve. I read great reviews about this place, so I decided to go for it. Walk-ins are welcome, but he had someone with an appointment when I arrived, so I walked down the road to a laundrette, dropped off a bag and walked back. I sat right down and got to talking. Jeroen is easy to talk to. He's a nice guy that is lucky enough to have purchased his storefront, and he's been in the same place for decades. An excellent location. He mentioned his experience, but is very humble. We talked about what I wanted, and what I liked. He agreed for the most part, but felt strongly about cutting the front near my hairline a little differently. I went with his advice and he gave me a dry cut. I was surprised he didn't shampoo it first, so I asked why. He said my hair is short, and a wet cut would leave it too short to cut properly. He advised a dry cut. He began with shears and texturizing shears and had the sides perfectly cut and blended in the blink of an eye. You can tell he's experienced and confident with his hands. The fade (blending) from almost shaved into the longer hair on the sides and top of my head was perfect. He then point cut the top and texturized a bit in the thicker areas, adeptly avoiding the thinner ones. He did as good of a job as anyone I've seen in about 20-25 minutes. He applied some oil that smelled awesome (which I'm normally pretty selective about, but it smelled great), and shaved my neckline. If you're in Amsterdam and feel like a hair cut, there is no need for concern. Just go to Jeroen. You won't be disappointed.

Since I was cutting off a lot of hair Andy made sure I was ok with cutting off so much, he showed me several time. All the stylists here are senior stylists so theoretically the experience level is the same for the 49.50E that you pay. Patrick was a doll. We had great conversation - which for me is important - as I have a LOT of hair and the process can be a very long one. After a consultation of what I would like, what he thought would work and discussing a game plan, he washed my hair, taking the time to apply several different conditioners to my hair as it was indeed very dry. Nice little scalp massage to boot. He then proceeded to cut my hair wet. Dry it. And cut it some more so as not to take off too much length (a major concern of mine) but add the right shape etc. He was particularly cautious with my fringe, which I greatly appreciated, making sure not to go too short. I held back one star because I wasn't too fond of how he blew out my hair but that is probably more me not providing instruction and him not knowing my style. Received tons of compliments after the cut. The sun EVEN came out for the rest of the day! Plus Patrick gave me some excellent restaurant recommendations. I will definitely go back.

I have been coming here since I moved to Amsterdam…read more Alex, the owner, is incredibly warm and kind to everyone who comes in but perhaps most importantly - since you're going to be coming here for a haircut or shave - he is extremely knowledgeable about hair and hair health and always gives me an amazing cut everytime. You can tell he's paying more attention to detail than most barbers. For example, he lets you know what he's actually trying to do to your hair while he's cutting it and pays attention to the natural lines of your hair and scalp and cuts according to that. A haircut is much more than just the length of your hair and he understands the science behind that to give you a cut that fits you. It's not just a haircut factory at this place and that's what sets Alex above the avg barber. It really feels like a bespoke experience here made just for your head. I cannot recommend Alex enough!
