Dr. Mimi Nguyen and Dr. Thuy Nguyen are both incredibly skilled and experienced, and it shows in the precision and care they bring to every visit. What I've always appreciated most is how much they genuinely care about their patients. They take the time to make sure you understand everything and always make you feel at ease. Star Dental is an excellent choice for people of all ages requiring dentist services. I've been going to see Dr. Mimi and Dr. Thuy for the last 20 years since I was 4 years old, and I've never had an issue or complaint! They treat you like family here and even have a photo collage of their long time clientele on the wall. If you have a small child, they will definitely be at ease with the way the entire staff treats anxiety and stress about a simple cleaning. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a high quality dentist that will consider all your needs as a patient. Their new office is nothing to scoff at either. It is a very cozy and welcoming environment that reflects the pristine care they provide on a daily basis. Their medical insurance policy is also very flexible. I've been able to use my Medi-Cal here for a long time with no issues or copay. They also have state of the art equipment such as an x-ray machine that requires you to stand up right and takes a 180 degree visual of your entire jaw length top and bottom when necessary to generate very fine detailed mappings of your teeth. My wife "used" to go here when she lived with her parents because it's close to their house. The reason I say "used" to, is because moving forward she'll no longer be returning, which brings me great joy. This place is a shit show and I have been trying to convince her to go to my dentist for the longest. Just the location it's in, speaks volume of what service you might expect. It's in a poor and run down area of town. More than likely the dentist and assistants will hardly know any English. Guess what... they don't.... Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against going to places with a language barrier as long as the service is stellar. My wife has been talking back and fourth with them since 2020. They have all her X-rays for the final wisdom tooth removal. Why did they not mention anything about it being "too risky" and to go to a specialist? They had two years to bring this up any time, but instead they kept stringing my wife along. She took time off work to go see them and they say "we recommend you go to our specialist. It's really risky but we can also do it if you want". What kind of nonsense is that? If you switch the roles and have this be an ophthalmologist performing Lasik surgery, how would you feel? "This is a risky procedure but we can still perform it on your eyes with a 90% risk of you going blind". Stupid to even offer. You had the X-ray so just tell us straight up you can do it instead of trying to con us into going to one of your "specialist". The dentist didn't even know what needed to be done today. He was literally looking at the x-ray when he said "yeah our specialist can remove both of these tooth". My wife, who has no dental training was also looking at the same X-ray and noted there's only one tooth to remove . The dentist had to look over a few times before agreeing there was only one to remove. This isn't the only time something like this happened. My brother in law had a similar experience where he came and they said the dentist wasn't in today.... Happy that they'll be going to Dr Thai in sunnyvale. The experience is night and day. His office is very upscale and has a luxurious ambiance. This place gives you a run down butcher shop. I can go on and on but I recommend you go elsewhere if possible. Their scheduling is so terrible that I'm certain their system is run off Windows 2000. I had an appointment specifically for wisdom teeth removal that they had recommended previously. I took time off work and when I showed up they told me my appointed dentist was not in for the day and they rescheduled me for another time. 2 weeks later, I show up, they take my x-ray only for them to say they don't do wisdom teeth removal... So why even tell me to schedule a wisdom tooth removal only to tell me they don't do it? Incredible waste of my time and a loss of two great morning rub sessions on the hub. read more

I've been a patient here since I was child, since my parents are patients at Star Dental. Dr. Mimi and Dr. Thuy are amazing general dentists. And I emphasize on being amazing GENERAL dentists. They've always done an amazing job for me to feel comfortable in their office, especially for someone with pretty big anxiety. I've seen how they interact with their patients and it's always with such kindness and delight. The doctors do a great job of maintaining interpersonal relationships with their patients. I've been away from college for some time and have a constantly busy schedule, but Star Dental has always had a place in my heart and I wanted to show them my support and appreciation for how much they have done for me. Recently, I've noticed that they have taken a much larger step in helping their patients through asking other doctors, who are not a part of their office/team to come in, such as wisdom teeth and root canal removal. I think it's such an amazing and big step that they have taken so far when it comes to patient care. Many people do not have the privilege or ability to travel greater distances, even go to multiple places for one single thing. This has helped my parents for the longest time, especially when it comes to my parents who are constantly working all of the time. This accommodation is very helpful. I've experienced other offices, where it has been super inconvenient for me and my family where we would have to go to take an X-Ray, then get a consultation, and then have to book another appointment at multiple locations. Dr. Mimi always ensured the most convenient way for me and my parents.  Although it may not be up to par to be a luxurious office, this office has values that surpass luxury. It is comfort. This genuinely is a perfect family setting. I've always heard doctors do much more than greeting their patients and asking how they are doing. They've always asked engaging questions to ensure their patients are doing great. Throughout my entire life, they've always been checking up on my academic journey and giving me the best support. This was my first visit here, & everyone was so lovely. From the lady at the front desk helping me book their soonest appointment, to the assistant who was so kind, & of course the dr. I saw dr. Thuy. She was wonderful, & very different from all other doctors I've seen in the past.. I liked that she took her time on me, and wasn't rushing. It created a very relaxing experience. I hate going to the dentist... I really do. I am afraid of the smell, the x-rays, the picker, the needles, the drill, the blue light thing, the everything... But when I started getting a toothache, it was time for a visit. o.0 ...story time... I thought about going to my old dentist, but then quickly remembered that he used to say things like "I just gave you the anesthetic thing, you still hurt?" and gave me the "really?!" face and ignored my complaints... so it was time for a new dentist. When I told my friend, she immediately jumped and said "omg!", then she told me about her same dental fobia and how her dentist helped her through it and how she's no longer afraid. Thank goodness for Dr. Mimi Nguyen. I think I'm getting better at going to the dentist now. Two quality dentists with a great staff! Really proactive and flexible with scheduling, and trips (unless you have fillings, etc) are usually super quick and leave me feeling fresh. Dr. Mimi and Dr. Thuy have been dentists I've been going to since childhood and will carry the conversation (and medical history) from when you last spoke and it's like they remember everything. I have been going to this dental office since I was about 13 yrs old and have been ever since I am now 21, I always feel so welcomed by everyone at the office, they always ask how I am how's school going I drive to here from the east bay so a good 45-60 minutes to get here and it's totally worth it. My family has also been going here my little brother since he was a toddler (currently 10 yrs old) and they still go to this office! I've been to a few other dentists when I was younger and seriously hated all of them, but when my mom switched me over to dentists Mimi and Thuy, I've been going to them ever since! I'm glad they moved their office to this location because it's closer to my house now. Everyone here is very nice and personable and never make me feel uncomfortable. I live in a different city for college now, but I still would not want to go to any other dentist. The staff call me around every 4-5 months to remind me to make an appointment, and they are always accommodating with when I can come back to SJ for my regular cleanings which I really appreciate. :) On top of that this place is always super clean! read more

5-Star for the excellent patient service! Let me start by saying I have a phobia of having dental work done, even something as simple as routine dental cleaning. I didn't visit any dentists during all my years in college due to this phobia! A great friend referred me to this dental office 10 years ago and I have been coming back to see Dr. Mimi and Dr. Thuy every 4-6 months ever since! These 2 dentist sisters excel at making my routine visits as painless as possible, both literally and figuratively. They are hands-down the best dentists I've ever had, over the half dozen countries and states I've lived in. I'm forever grateful to them for helping me overcome my childhood fear of dental work and any discomfort or pain associated with it. They are both thorough, meticulous, careful and gentle in their work...always explaining to me in advance what they are going to do before the procedure and reviewing my overall dental health at the end. I feel like they treat me like a family member! I also love the receptionist Thuong and technician Tien...always smiling and sweet and efficient! I never have to wait for more than a couple of minutes past my appointment time! Also they have text appointment reminders which are really convenient. Unfortunately like all businesses there's always someone in the same profession that ruins the title and image for the others. I know we have heard many horror stories about dentists always over pricing or stating you need a root canal when you do not. Here at Star Dental, you can rest assure you're in good hands. These 2 dentists are sisters and we have been going to them for over 4 years. They are wonderful, caring and very thorough. They found problems that our other dentist had missed and repaired problems the other dentist said could not be fixed. When I told my 16 year old daughter she had an appointment with them she was thrilled. They fixed 4 teeth with numbing in 3 appointments and she was still very happy. No need to be afraid of pain there is little to none. They even had to "sculpt" a couple of mine and I am extremely happy with their work. read more

Drs. Mimi Da Huong and Thuy Huong have literally been my family's dentists since elementary school. I'm nearly 26 now and I have lived in SoCal as well as Florida and Pennsylvania for college/medical school and make it a point to schedule an appointment every six months when I am back in the bay to get my teeth taken care of! They are genuinely kind and always considerate. They go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and will accommodate you! The office staff are also always welcoming and will text you appointment reminders. In the past 15+ years I have never had a bad experience! They take the time to get to know you and your family and ACTUALLY REMEMBER. Dr. Mimi literally once bought me a box of pastries to celebrate my college graduation! I was referred many years ago by a co-worker when they first opened their dental practice off king and Tully, and have always been treated like family. My entire family goes there, and I always recommend to other friends and family. Drs. Mimi & Thuy are truly professionals that really care and it shows by the way they treat you. *A quick story: I wet camping one weekend; left on a Friday and woke up to extreme pain on my tooth (bottom front) Saturday morning, I couldn't take the pain anymore and had to do something or my trip would have been cut short. I called Star Dental as soon as they opened that morning, and they were able to see me. So I left my campsite at Lake Del Valle and drove straight there. They were able to perform an emergency root canal right away to relieve the pain and infection, got my meds and was able to return to my my campsite by 2:PM to enjoy the rest of the weekend camping with my family. I've been seeing Doctor Mimi and Doctor Thuy for over 12 years now and they've inspired me to take better care of my teeth. Their knowledge and methods are second to none, virtually painless.
