If you've never heard of Starbread or had senorita bread before, you're missing out. Truly. You probably don't have any Filipino friends to put you on or aren't from the Bay Area, but I'm here to let you in on this little secret. Senorita bread originated here in the Bay Area as a Filipino pastry from a family who first opened up shop in Vallejo and it is a simple but probably the most delicious pastry to ever exist or end up on the potluck table at work or with friends. It's just baked bread coated in a warm buttery sugar glaze. I grew up in Newark across the bay and I had one of the few locations right in my hometown so I always got myself a box. I was devastated when it closed during the pandemic but I am no longer sad after moving up to south city and having a Starbread bakery close by again. The bakery is no trills like your typical Asian bakeries (think Chinese or Vietnamese) and they do have other things you can buy but the main thing is **senorita bread** 10 is plenty but 20 is $12 and is a steal. You come in to order and it comes out piping hot 1-5 minutes later. Definitely grab it for your next potluck with friends or solo dolo at home. I've had Starbread before in my hometown and was super excited to introduce my friends to it when we saw a spot in Pacifica. Came around 5:45pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty as expected. There weren't many pastries left (which is expected since this place is super yummy and we can late in the day). With that said, we ordered our 5pc of seniorita bread and it came out piping hot within a few minutes. This spot doesn't have any seating so it's just grab and go. We ate our bread in the car and finished within 5 minutes. I will note that I think the batch I got was a bit on the soggy side and didn't really hold its shape. Definitely more expensive than Starbread in Daly City on King Dr. Today I bought 30 pieces for $21 vs $18 at the other location. I didn't take a picture of the full price list, I assume other sizes also cost more here. It doesn't look like the usual proper shop/bakery. The shop is spare, looks like they focus on selling their star product: senorita breads. The couple of times I visited, the store seemed to be operated always by one employee only who ran the register as well as the oven in the back. So, understandably no customer service, just converse to get customers' orders filled. No receipt for cash purchase, ever, and cash register may never be fixed. We asked for the 20 piece at $10 a box. Anything else we're asked. We are ignorant when it comes to Filipino desserts so we passed. However I notice ziplock quart size bags & bags of chicharrones. Pastilles de Leche is supposed to be a soft, sweet milk candy. This version is definitely zero out of five stars as it was hard and old tasting. 1 container Yema (0/5) asked if there were nuts and assured there was none.
