When you visit a big chain, you don't always expect the personal touch but this branch is different. As a regular visitor, the staff are friendly and even better they remember my order and start making it before I get to the till. read more

But today I just wanted coffee so I thought I'd give it a go. What an awesome little place to hang out! From the outside Playground looks more like a hipster arts and craft shop. But in a good way. It looks intriguing and different from a lot of coffee shops that try and be hipster - theres an irony to Playgrounds hint of hipsterness! Get inside and the first thing you see are two wooden swings (yes swings) with a really nice chill-out windowsill with cushions to sit on. I'm actually sat on the windowsill as a type this and it's a really nice place to be! Much like the outside, the decor inside Playground is different to many other coffee shops close by; refreshingly different. There's lots of colour, swings and a few board games. It feels much more relaxing than your average chip board heavy coffee shop. The coffee itself is really good. I went for the house flat white which was quite sweet and really moreish. It was delicious. All in all a really nice experience and refreshing to see someone breaking the mould. Accepts Bristol Pounds & text to pay

Brunch is my favourite here, a good selection of full English as well as a few more interesting options, all of which are beautifully cooked and taste great! Hot chocolate is what this place does best I think, I had a regular hot choc with all the toppings, cream, flaked chocolate and marshmallows and it was very enjoyable, I also had a slice of polenta cake which was very nice. I'm giving it 3 stars just because it didn't feel particularly friendly or welcoming, the staff were all nice enough and no one did anything wrong but they were just not what I have come to expect from a good cafe.

From the outside it looks like your average little café, and has a glass front which lets light into the place and creates a relaxing atmosphere. The seats by the window are definitely the best - especially if you enjoy people watching whilst enjoying a coffee! The best thing about Café Meme is their hot chocolates - which I would definitely recommend! They make their hot chocolates using real melted chocolate, and they taste delicious. Try the white hot chocolate - it sounds unusual but is amazing! They serve a variety of light lunches such as paninis, soups, salads etc - so it's perfect if you just fancy popping out with a friend to grab a small bite to eat. One thing to note is that this café is fairly small, and doesn't have the capacity to seat many people - I have visited a few times before and it is often the case that you have to wait for a table. However, if you visit at slightly off peak times such as before lunch or in the afternoon then you are more likely to find a seat! Another bonus is their loyalty card scheme! If you visit often enough you can collect stamps which contribute towards a freebie at the café!

Your instantly greeted by a counter of beautiful cakes an pastries and five or six staff cooking food in the open kitchen. It's really surprising how far back the seating goes. They have done a great job with the little space the have. The decor inside is much the same as outside; nice white walls with yellow and wicker furnishings. On to the food: The menu is pretty small but everything looks and sounds great. It's not your normal breakfast/brunch menu. I wanted everything on it, but We both went for the seared steak with potatoes cheese bake and poached eggs. It was absolutely amazing! The potatoes was different to what I expected, but probably better. I had a lemon grass and goner tea while Soph had a fresh orange juice. At lunchtime there's invariably a fairly long queue outside Boulangerie. It's tucked away in between the louder and more lurid chains such as a Nero or Greggs but far better value than any of them. Boulangerie doesn't need to shout, anyone who's been knows how great it is. In fairness, most of the sandwiches taste pretty similar (there about four varieties of chicken and to me they all just taste like chicken salad despite whatever pretensions to Thai or Mexican flavours). It doesn't really matter though when the ingredients are fresh and the prices are this low.

I ended up binning it because an iced milk was not at all what I had in mind (especially based on the appealing advert in their window front). I think most of this has to do with the staff... I'll agree with what others have said - the service here is rough. I stood at the counter for an uncomfortably long time waiting for one of the three people working to acknowledge me. Even after they did, they went back to talking to each other. Eventually they finished their conversation to tend to the queue which had gotten so long it was out the door. Clue one that my drink wasn't going to be right: the cashier asked me to repeat my order a bunch of times. Clue two: when one employee asked another employee what the drink even was.
