A great little Trafford Centre shop…read more We only discovered it by accident really; it's on the first floor, quite near the escalators and lifts opposite Selfridge's. Our two kids (aged 4 and 5) enjoy the escalators and lifts, so I suppose it was inevitable we would come across Whittards sooner or later! They've been helping us out with birthday presents and Christmas gifts ever since we found them. The range of teas and coffees they sell is huge, but it's their various chocolate beverages we like best They also sell a few mugs and so on, which doesn't really seem to be necessary -- I'd rather they devoted the shelf-space to more yummy coffees, chocolates and teas. The staff are friendly and helpful and despite its small size we'd say it's definitely worth a visit.

In this boutique store you can taste any coffees from the whole range and see the machines in use. The staff are very knowledgable, helpful and friendly... If you have never been in you should pop by and at least try a free one... Who knows you maybe returning home with a quality machine... Incidentally the pods can be bought on line from Nespresso and other outlets now producing them. Out of several non Nespresso brands the best I found is available at Lidl... Not as good but for an all round blend for work its fine!

All the shop assistants (many!) dressed in uniform black, saying the same lines to every client, LOL, it is Apple like! Where is the time that people just boiled water and had it sift through coffee in a filter on a pot in the kitchen :) There's a coffee corner of course and lots of Nespresso machines in all colors. I was impressed with the range, considering it be rather late in the evening, with a good variety of soup and sandwiches still remaining, and with the soup ready in the containers, when they are normally kept in a pan (As I found out at the Liverpool One store) I ordered a vegetable and chicken soup (although they had some better name for it!) with it being gluten free, the server seemed quite nice, and she didn't mind giving me 10 percent off a small portion, for a bigger portion, thanks to my haggling with the main reason being the time of night. My soup was quite nice, and I did enjoy the sauce it was in, and it did have a fresh taste to it, despite the time, although it did have some disappointing aspects. The ratio of vegetable to sauce was very poor, and they was so much of it, which made it taste cheap and low quality, I didn't like how they cut the chicken, which made it taste stringy and horrible, and the peas were not very nice too, it would have been nice with a smaller number, but they was so many, it was like I ordered a bowl of peas in a soup like sauce. My soup was nice, but aspects of too much stringy chicken and peas ruined it, when they could have added more potato and celery, which were some of the parts I liked about the soup the most. This store is actually quite nice and a good addition to the trafford centre, they label allergens very well, and easy to see on electronic screens, so I do feel it deserves 3 stars.

I am marking it down a star because there is no where to put your silver tray when you are done :'(

And by that I mean they don't charge ridiculous prices just because of all the other boutique stuff going on around them. I grabbed a quick chunky falafel and hummus sandwich. It was pretty dry but actually quite tasty, and it was only for a quick snack anyway. I like Pret. The sandwiches are nicely made, there's excellent variety, and this branch keeps to high street prices despite its exclusive location.

In spite of having a name that would perhaps be more suited to a 'gentlemans club', Encounters is…read moreindeed a coffee shop. In a somewhat unconventional location on a dead end road, opposite a fishmongers, Encounters is somewhere between a locals tearoom and the style of coffee shop run by Ian Beal in Eastenders or Roy Cropper in Corrie. As such, whilst the coffee isn't likely to be brewed from a fair-trade bean personally selected by the owner of the shop, the food and drink on offer is good, honest stuff. In a premises that looks more like someones converted front room than a purpose built venue, and with a little outdoor seating area Encounters offers a location where you can watch (a very limited section of) life going by as you enjoy your drinks and cakes, or a jacket spud if you happen to venture in at lunchtime. With prices always competitive and a nice range of cakes and snack foods on offer as well as a limited 'sit down' menu, Encounters is probably something of a 'middle of the road' offering in Sale's hierarchy of coffee shops (if an overall score were to be given taking into account ambience, quality and price), somewhat behind Enjoy coffee and Nero, and someway above Carls Cuisine!
