The store could do with a refurb to meet the new look/feel of Starbucks stores, but the store still looks easy on the eye, following the more traditional look/feel, and I still rather like it. The staff here seem friendly enough, I did have a slight wait to order when arriving as the barista working seemed to go off for a minute or two after seeing me, they did appear to be short-staffed, and she did seem friendly and apologised for the delay. I ordered a Venti Chai Tea Latte with a shot of espresso and vanilla, as my usual Cold Brew was unavailable. I did enjoy my drink, although I would have liked them to fill the cup to the top, as there was a large gap, sadly. My guest did complain about the temperature of his cappuccino not being too hot, and he mentioned the foam was rather thick, to the point he had to stir it. 4* - Overall a fairly good Starbucks store, the opening hours are much better than the town centre location, and the seating is very comfortable (one of the most comfortable seating in a Starbucks!), the staff are friendly enough, a couple of problems but nothing too major. Yes, there's Costa and Starbucks but they're pretty much of a muchness with Moka quality and service wise. What Preston lacks is a first class independent third wave coffee shop/diner, where quality of product and service is genuinely high. Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, Leeds, York, Bath, Birmingham, London, and the rest have several. Preston seems to have zero and so there's no incentive for shops like Moka to be exceptional. This is a shop that's cruising in my view. I specifically detoured to check out Moka. It is part wannabe brand and part up market tea shop in style. I ordered a flat white which was pretty horrible: wrong size, way too hot, bitter as a result, with no depth of flavour at all. I struggled to finish it. This is a training issue, a machine cleanliness issue and a bean quality issue. The 'barista' banged out the old coffee puck, didn't clean the portafilter, ground new coffee into it (what looked like a single rather than flat white double shot), left the portafilter on the side while he did something else, letting it cool, then returned. The watery shot told me the machine/grinder wasn't calibrated properly and nor was the barista. There is no reason to churn out this standard other than laziness and lack of training. I can get this kind of coffee anywhere. Yuk! I next ordered a strawberry cheesecake. I watched it being sliced. OK, so don't wipe your hands down your trousers first to dry them. Don't then handle the slice with your fingers leaving a print. And when you slice don't leave a 1cm nub in one corner. Cut it neatly. So a potentially cross contaminated slice, ill cut with a finger mark, is £3.95. The mango squeezable out of a bottle stuff I dunno what that was about ... with strawberry? Service was Ok. Polite enough. It was all a bit haphazard tho and seemed over staffed when all that's happening is cake, tea, coffee out front. There did seem to be a kitchen out back and I saw a few things come out looking par for the course. Nothing too exciting. I couldn't check the menu for more info as it was snatched from the table as soon as I said I didn't want food. Why do that? Someone will only go back and replace it when I leave! So, this is an average place for people who want average at a tad above average prices in a convenient location near the station. Preston will do better at some stage hopefully.

I was impressed to see Chinese teas I don't typically find in tea houses (outside of China). Food menu is also impressive as well. I went with a group of five and we couldn't have ordered more different items. Seemed like everyone enjoyed their meal. They have both a cafe menu (salads, sandwiches, etc). They also have a traditional polish menu. I tried the golabki (stuffed cabbage with rice and pork in a tomato sauce) which came with a choice of potato (I chose dumplings) and salads/slaws. Very nice! Huge portion and could easily feed 2. Tasty hot stuffed cabbage paired nicely with the bright crunchy herbaceous slaws.

The range of teas is astounding and the quality (of the many I tried on my many visits) is amazing. Each tea is served in it's proper manner in beautiful teapots and cups. If you're not into weird and wonderful teas, they also have coffee and 'regular' tea on the menu aswell as juices, smoothies and other soft drinks. There is no need for you to be afraid of a new tea drinking experience though, as the staff are extremely knowledgeable (seriously, they know EVERYTHING about tea!) pleasant and very accomodating. They agreed to host my vegan society meetings and even made an effort to make the menu a little more vegan. I only tried one of the food items on the menu, this was tomato stew/soup with vegetables. I forget the name but recall it was Hungarian. Either way, it was delicious, just as I hear that all their food is from my friends. This ranges from toasties and sandwiches to more substantial dishes hailing from the owner's native Poland and other places around Europe. Other than the great drinks, food and service the place is nicely decorated and makes you feel a million miles away from the Preston high street. There is always some background music on but you would only really notice it if you listened out for it. All in all it makes for a very relaxing atmosphere, especially if you get some Yerba maté! If you're local to Preston and haven't sampled the delights of the Mystery Tea House then you ought to, right now. You'll soon be a regular. The prices can be quite expensive but you can get a loyalty card which gets stamped every time you buy a coffee and after 9 bought you get the 10th free. This cafe was recently opened by a homeless charity, providing shelter and work for homeless people in Preston.
