I'm just about fed up with this location. I come here out of convenience since it is close to home. Never have I ever had a complaint with the baristas until now. But this location has a bunch of bitches. They never smile when you order your drink, they give you an attitude if you ask for your drink to be remade and they proceed to talking shit about you. I had to have them make my drink several times. Something was really off with the chocolate they used. I mentioned it and they said sometimes it comes out bitter. When I apologized for asking them to remake it the 2nd time, one of them sarcastically said its their barista promise to make it over if you are not satisfied. I actually threw my drink out because it was not drinkable. I don't know if they did this on purpose or what but I've been getting the drink I ordered for over 5 years and I've never had this issue before. read more

I love Starbucks coffee...I have been hooked on it ever since I knew what coffee was. Starbucks is defiantly a lot better then other places like caribou and such. Starbucks is also awsome because they don't just carry coffee they carry Chi Tea and other drinks for the non-coffee drinkers. Starbucks also has a good atmosphere and isn't all loud and crazy like other coffee shops can be. Also in Starbucks the staff there are friendly but not to friendly which is a good thing. read more

One of my favorite Starbucks locations! I've been going to this location for about 4 years now. Everyone is always so pleasant here and I NEVER get my coffee messed up. Really solid location. Yes, it gets busy, but so what. It's downtown R.O. Right on the corner, it is a prime stop spot. It can need some floor and table attention a bit more then they tend to. Starbucks coffee, in terms of quality, is not really that great. Starbucks espresso drinks are better than their coffee, but not great either. Starbucks is an experience more than a coffee shop. The experience here never delivers. The music never seems to be loud enough, and the layout is really not conducive to coffeehouse mingling. I prefer the Starbucks on Ann Arbor (state street). This place would be so much better with Sweetwaters' layout and Starbucks Coffee. read more

This Starbucks has a nice, large interior. The barista that made my drink was not fast the way a typical Starbucks barista throws together a drink. Instead he definitely took time to make the drinks and you could taste the difference. Other than that this is your run-of-the-mill chain Starbucks. read more

I want to say hands down this is the BEST Starbucks. The staff goes out of it's way to make me feel like part of the "barista family". People like Julie, draw festive cartoons and post them for visitors. Mary, Jesse, Katie, Erin, Eva, and Carrie go above and beyond to treat customers well and make the drinks quickly and perfectly! Currently I'm living in the land of starbucks, seattle. But many moons ago, I was a detroit girl, or I guess really a detroit suburbs girl, and this was my hang out. Fast, friendly, service. You can expect your drink in less than 2 minutes if there's no line. Even with a line, 5 minutes!

I like that this location is open late and it saved us from a very loud bar at 11pm. I like the Evolution Juice selection when I'm not in the mood for a chai. Bathrooms are always clean, this location is a little narrow, but we found a nice corner for the four of us to sit and chat. This is is a great spot to unwind or relax. read more

Although I'm all for allowing the homeless a place to rest and warm up, they are now taking up the majority of this location for hours at a time. Not only do the take almost all the chairs in the conversational. Seating area, they take up other tables and chairs for their belongings. There's very little seating left for paying customers or people who are working while having coffee or food. I don't see how they can sustain if paying customers have to go somewhere else when they want to relax. Unfortunately, I will start going to one of the four other local coffee shops. read more

I really enjoy this Starbucks in downtown Royal Oak. When I first visited this Starbucks, I wasn't expecting much, since it was right in the heart of Royal Oak downtown, and I assumed it would be overcrowded, loud, and not a lot of places to sit or study. But I was wrong! It's actually relatively quiet in there with some good background music, and there were plenty of places to sit at least when I visit. I usually hit up coffee shops to study, and for some reason, this place has a good enough atmosphere to be able to be productive. The prices and food are typical Starbucks. read more

It's a Starbucks. If you don't know what a Starbucks is, you must have been living under a rock for the past 10 years. The coffee here tastes like the usual, and the service is efficient enough. There are nicer, roomier and quieter (and yet busy, too) Starbucks in the Metro Detroit area. Also, there is very limited seating. It's location downtown in Royal Oak does make it a nice place to stop in to grab a coffee or hot chocolate to keep your hands warm as you stroll down Main Street during the chilly months of fall, winter and spring with Michigan weather. read more

This place is in the heart if downtown royal oak, super busy. But their customer service is really great for how busy they are! Parking is a huge pain here which is why I don't come to this location much. But when I am downtown I always stop by. I love happy hour, wish it was more than once a year! read more

This is typically not my normal Starbucks location, but in the past week I have had to frequent this Starbucks because I was staying with a friend due to my power being out. When going at 7:30 in the morning, it was nice to see that there was little to no line. However, my extremely basic orders took FOREVER to serve. The first day I went in, I ordered an espresso drink, an oatmeal, and one of the pastries. For some reason, the staff decided to service the entire line before grabbing my pastry. Being a previous Starbucks employee I found this incredibly strange and irritating since I know they should be prioritizing whomever ordered first. I also noticed the barista making my drink incorrectly and asked if it was what I ordered. She was kind enough to admit her mistake and remake my drink. The next day I went in and thought I would make my order more simple. A coffee and some oatmeal. I asked for honey for my coffee (there was none at the milk bar). I stood there for about 5 minutes and then opted for sugar. For being a busy downtown store, I don't understand how it could take so long to be serviced, with hardly any customers. read more

Like other Starbucks, but unlike other Starbucks. Like other Starbucks because of the coffeehouse atmosphere and the same menu. But unlike others because it is located in the downtown area of Royal Oak (within walking distance of many restaurants and boutique shops, etc.). It is also within walking distance of OCC Royal Oak and public parking (free parking on Sunday's and holidays). So if you want to spend time just walking, eating, and/or shopping in Downtown RO (especially on Sundays), find public parking lot, park, wander around, and eat at bd's. read more

This starbucks is always fast and accurate. I get iced coffee and their iced coffee mix is almost always good and not watered down. They also fulfill the mobile orders quickly and are very friendly. The one downside is finding street parking. read more

I had the pleasure of being in your store in Royal Oak. My friend Mark and I ordered two tall iced coffees. The barista placed two iced coffees next to each other on the table where customer drinks are to be picked up, not mentioning whose name it was for. After putting a straw in, because it was the exact drink I ordered, the fat incompetent barista abruptly stopped me and told me it was not my drink. He glared at me for extended period, as if I were at fault, and indicated it was for his coworker. Not long after this, the employee and owner of the mistaken coffee appeared to realize her drink was tampered with. The visibly irritated woman screamed in my ear that she would have to "Make another one now!" I assume preparing coffee is part of her skill set and daily tasks. I don't understand why it would be such an inconvenience for her to make another iced coffee; as she had likely already produced many cups that day. I feel it was unnecessary to behave like an animal to the customers, especially after my repeated attempts at apologizing and making amends for the coffee error. I spend a lot of money at Starbucks per month. Hiring hipsters is adorable and all, but they have the worst customer service skills in the service industry. They are typically the jaded and frustrated pseudo-creative community college drop-outs. If Starbucks hipster employees spent less time being edgy and more time making coffee, the lines would move faster and I wouldn't be late for work in the morning. I believe it is time for Starbucks to give another demographic a shot. The hipsters are highjacking the barista lifestyle and turning it into a manifestation of their own misery. The carefree, nurturing, and inspiring spirit of the barista has been lost and replaced with bad hair dye, contrived tattoos, and stupid thick rimmed eye glasses. read more

This specific Starbucks has a few flaws. One of the biggest flaws they have is the skinny guy with shoulder length greasy hair. A while back I was in there ordering my usual drink. My change ended up being $1 and some change, and I threw it in the tip jar they have like usual. The greasy haired man then said thank you and went on and on complaining about how rude people are that don't tip them. He wouldn't stop talking about it. Excuse me? Starbucks baristas are paid hourly. They're not servers making $2.65/hr. They're already being paid to make our drinks, so getting a tip is a bonus, and it shouldn't be expected. At the end of the day they are still getting a pay check no matter how much $$ is in that tip jar. Im a generous tipper, and until that day I always threw my $1 and some change in to their greedy little tip bucket. But whenever that guy takes my order, which is often since Im their almost everyday, I make it a point to take my change and put it back in my purse. And I always feel like hes waiting to see if I am going to give him my change or not. Even if he didn't feel people were fairly tipping him, Im a customer and its extremely inappropriate to have that conversation with me. A few of the other staff members always seem to have an attitude and can be kind of rude. Not just to me, but I see them be rude to a lot of other people as well. Julie is one of the rudest. Just the other day she was almost yelling at a customer because the customer was having a hard time explaining what type of sandwich she wanted. Isn't part of her job helping customers figure out what they want, especially since Starbucks can be a tricky place to order from. The poor girl in lines face got bright red and she was clearly embarassed. She apologized to Miss Julie like 100 times, but Julie shouldve been the one to do all the apologizing. She was way out of line. The bonus side to this Starbucks is the other half of the staff. They're friendly, energetic, and always happy. They know your name and what you drink. They go out of their way to get to know you and make you happy. The one Jewish guy there is my favorite and I feel bad that I forgot his name, since I have a small crush on him :) He's never angry or rude, and one of the friendliest one's there. He makes the difference between 2 and 3 stars. This Starbucks is hit or miss, and all based on luck. Typically the late night staff is way better the the day time. If they didn't have such a convenient location for so many people, I doubt anyone would go there. The Starbucks and Maple and Telegraph is by far the best. read more

The staff here is just horrible. I overheard the Barista say to a customer who put her coffee back on the counter while she was busy getting ice cubes from the freezer.... "what do you want?" Customers says, " thought I'd catch you while you were in the freezer to put some more ice in my cup." Server said, " well, I can't read your mind." Begrudgingly, ice was placed in customers cup. Living close to this location and loving Starbucks coffee, I want to like this place. However, EVERY time I decide to try this place again, the team of people working are so impersonal, not helpful and never smile. Please get your personnel trained to be friendly and SMILE!.
