This place is nestled between 1st and 2nd in downtown Lake O. The studio is small, dark and very loud - perfect for an energetic and fun start to the day! I wear ear plugs (as it's pretty dang loud!) but it's a fantastic workout- engaging multiple muscle groups and lots of variety to keep you jamming! I've had several great instructors and really enjoy the strength training element especially. Nate is probably my fav so far, but I'm planning to try them all eventually read more

Dionne was super nice and so was the employee at the desk! This was only my second spin class and second studio I've tried, but I will say that the class I went to was full of regulars who were very comfortable and confident and skilled, and I noticed that even though modifications were encouraged as needed, it was a bit harder to find ways to modify the workout myself and I just hoped for more support like I had received at the first studio I tried spin at. But the class was very energetic and I'm sure great for many, just probably not the studio for me. Would recommend to others to try out and explore though! read more

I love going here. They have various deals and first class free. This is the first cycling plane I tried and they were so nice and accepting. Lights down low do what you do isn't watched by everyone. Can wear earplugs if music too loud ( they have it there) Only one class was crazy with sweat on mirrors when full. Fun cycle studio with friendly, outgoing instructors and good tunes. Minus one star as the bikes are not as high-end as I am used to with other studios. Seems minor, but even the bike shelfs were too small during the ride to hold my water bottle and weights and they all fell on the floor. In addition, the adjustment knob did not work at all and kept my pace just one flat time. It was a fun work out, but I don't think I would get as many results here as from other locations in PDX. read more

My husband and I went here with a friend of ours who goes 5 times a week. I was a little nervous to return to a spin class as the only time I had been injured during a workout before was in a spin class. I explained this to the instructor and staff, who were all very sympathetic, and supportive. The instructor checked on my before, during and after class. I appreciated her thoughtfulness. I recently attended an 80s themed class through my place of work, and it was so much fun! Maddie kept the class energetic, and we had dope glow in the dark lights. I am an avid cycler and was looking for a new place to stay in cycling shape during the winter after my favorite place closed down. I was hoping Star Cycle could be the fit, but was so disappointed. First off, I felt the staff treated me like a complete idiot the entire time I was there, despite me telling them I've done spin classes and cycle on my own, they continuously talked down to me like I had no idea what I was doing. The instructor was very hesitant to give me heavier weights when I asked for them (they had 1lb weights on my bike when I arrived. I lift everyday and am used to using 5lb weights when spinning). I was finally able to get 3lb weights. The class is very similar to a Soul Cycle type class (aka cult-ish). There is no focus on form and instead it is all about spinning your legs as fast as possible. The class is very vocal with people whooping and hollering (which works for some but is not my style). The instructor was very focused on body image and continuously told the class how beautiful they were and how we needed to work to see results instead of a motivational (and far more appropriate) "you're strong/powerful/doing great/etc." I think the icing on the cake was at the end of the class there did not appear to be anything to clean the bikes off with and the next class went right on into the room to get on the bikes without the bikes being cleaned off. I am hoping I missed seeing a staff member clean off the bikes, but this absolutely disgusted me. Despite buying the 3 class intro offer, I will not be returning. read more

She shared that there has been quite a few changes at StarCycle LO and she would see to it I had the opportunity to come ride again. I am optimistic, and look forward to seeing if my opinion can be changed, and this review can too! ****** Super disappointed - the instructor smashed into me while she was walking around the class while she was calling a drill - stay on your bike if that's a risk to avoid running into a client. I don't understand what has happened to spinning - no resistance, high speed doesn't build muscle - i was hoping for a well rounded class with lots of ups and downs... what i got was high speed out of saddle for a majority of the class which is a) boring and b) not sustainable ... seems like this place is trying to be SoulCycle - there are a handful of other studios that are much better - check those out first read more

I've been twice to star cycle and it's definitely one of the more difficult spin classes I've been to. It's fast paced and your bottom is hovering a couple inches from the seat most of time- making for a great thigh burn ! The only reason for not giving a 5 is that it's too dark. There's two little candles to light up and the instructors voice can be blurred by the music so it's hard to tell what the next move is. I'll definitely keep going! read more

I have been looking for a spin gym that's as good as SoulCycle and I really want StarCycle to be that, but it just doesn't hit the mark. The music is so-so and the instructors are average. I've tried various times and instructors, but haven't found anyone super inspiring or motivating. In fact, in one class one of my weights actually fell off my bike, so by the time we were in the weights section, I had to unclip to grab it. The instructor, Erin, actually yelled, "we're waiting!" as if I was holding up the class to grab my weight. It was pretty uncomfortable. The room is also pretty small so you don't get as much energy as a larger class, and they fill up quickly. You also can't reserve your bike, so you have to get there at least 15 minutes early if you want to choose a spot, and good luck if you want to sit next to someone. It's not bad, but certainly targeted towards an older crowd. read more

Thought this studio was all right. Coming from LA I have high expectations of a cycling studio. While this one isn't comparable in my opinion it's better than a few other ones I've tried in the area. Pros: instructor had good energy, liked the arm work out, glad they had cycling shoes to rent. Cons: they do a lot of weird push up things on the bike. Thought this was very odd as every other cycling instructor I've had talks about how important it is to keep the weight in your legs and not hunch over- can really hurt your back. Instructions were hard to follow, didn't get a real sense of community (best part of most cycling studios), emphasis was more on strength training than building endurance it seemed. Good warm up for the day but unfortunately I shill have to go to the gym and do cardio after paying 18 bucks. read more

Holy Smoked!! My Wife has been raving about this place for months now, and convinced me that I needed to give it a try. I had done other spin classes in the past at 24 hour fitness and thought that this would be about the same. I was completely wrong! We showed up about 15 minutes early got our shoes and met the owner Erin Moone. Erin helped me get the bike the correct height and the handlebars all situated. She is a tiny little Ms. Super Fit, Superhuman, Spin Master Jedi. I couldn't believe how fast this tiny woman could spin her bike for the entire 45 minute class. Within 90 seconds of the class starting I was sweating through my shirt. The music selection and variety of movements during the class was fantastic! It was an incredible workout and at the end of class my workstation was completely covered in a puddle of sweat. Living in Camas, it's not easily accessible to make on a regular basis. I've been going to Starcycle for a few months and I'm hooked. After my first class in June, I canceled my gym membership and have been taking classes 2-4 times a week. The instructors are dedicated to making you really sweat and push yourself in each class. The class size has just the right amount of people so you aren't overwhelmed and you don't feel like everyone is staring at you. It's the perfect amount of workout time. This is such a great full body work out! The classes are fun, and focus not only on legs, but core and arms as well. Aside from the actual workout being great, the online website is not intuitive at all, and seems outdated. Unlike other spin studios, star cycle does not release their schedule at a certain time, instead allowing classes to be booked as far out in advance as possible. This leads to classes being booked over a month out, with people just booking reoccurring rides, then cancelling at a later date if it doesn't work for them. In turn this leads to being "wait listed" for others- which means you can't count on being in the class. This is frustrating for people that work and need to have a set schedule. Multiple times my class (6 AM) started late- even if it's just a few minutes- there is a reason I was at the 6 am class/ because I need to be at work at a certain time. Very frustrating. You cannot reserve a specific bike online, which means you must arrive much earlier than the class actually starts in order to get a preferred bike. Good class, but the management of it needs to improve before I'll return. I have switched to a different studio, despite StarCycle actually bring closer to my house. read more

On a scale of 1-10, the StarCycle instructors (and staff!) are a 15-plus! The environment has never been shy of positive, and although there is no need (as my children are all grown); I like the fact that they offer childcare for those who share the collective need to "escape" for 45 minutes out of their day. My schedule only allows me to take a StarCycle class once (maybe twice) per week, and if I had it my way, I'd be a "fixture" almost every day!! As an added note, I travel to east coast cities several times a year, and take classes with a similar format. However, being just a bit over 5' tall, the bikes are usually different, and do not fit me as well as the top-of-the-line Schwinn bikes that StarCycle provides. read more

I used to hate spinning. I'm talking really, really hate spinning. Somehow, I got talked into going to StarCycle in the Spring of 2015. I went once, and I was on the verge of death. I went a second time and a third time, and I didn't know if I would make it. I went a 4th and 5th time, and then a 6th, 7th, and 8th, and now I truly can't live without it. I have fallen hopelessly in love. This place is the real deal. It is the absolute BEST workout I have EVER had. The lights are dim, the music is loud, and the instructors push me to dig deep and give it everything I've got. It's impossible to leave the room without dripping in sweat, and that's exactly what I want when I have 45 minutes to give and am looking for the best possible return. StarCycle pushes me in a way I could never push myself. The staff here is truly incredible. They greet me with a genuine smile when I arrive, and although the instructors really do each have their own unique style, I feel pushed and challenged and totally worked over (in the best possible way) every single time. Although I truly have loved every class, Lauren is my perfect match...she makes me feel like I can conquer the world, both pushing me to my physical limits and filling me up with words of encouragement and inspiration. The company and staff also have a significant presence in the community, and I appreciate that. I have been a part of a number of charity rides that they have generously hosted and have been introduced to many wonderful causes as a result. If you take your first class and feel like dying, stick with it. Every ride gets easier, but every ride will always be hard enough to be oh-so-worth your time. Enjoy getting your booty kicked in the dark...you'll come out holding your head that much higher in the light as a result. read more

StarCycle is a soulcycle-ist spin cycle. Low lights, great music, and dynamic instructors. If you want to to high-rpm workout with a lot of arm motion, it will work great for you. The space is small and there are only a few fans that are high-up so it gets really hot quickly, sort of like bikram spinning. I took an early class and there was no break between our class and the next one. I was glad I wasn't in the next class, having to walk into a room hot with lots of other peoples sweat. They give you one towel on your bike, but I didn't see anything to wipe down your bike afterwards. Perhaps they wipe down all the bikes quickly before the next class, but I thought it was sorta was gross to not have one wiped down well. They need more ventilation and cleanup between classes. The childcare area is right at the entrance, it is a bright area with some toys. It seems nice for younger kids, but older might get a little bored. read more

STARCYCLE is number 1 in my book. I've been all over the country cycling. There is NO place like Starcycle and the Starcycle instructors. They are the BEST ! The studio is sparkling clean and the bikes in the studio are nicely spaced. The riders are pretty fun too, you'll meet a whole new group of friends who LOVE to cycle, just as you will. 3-2-1 get ready! 1) Get your weights, 2) strap on your bike shoes 3) adjust your bike, 4) make sure you have water and a towel, (as you're going to need both) 5) take a breath, as the lights go out, prepare for the ride of your life for 45 minutes. I cycle every day at 6:00 AM. Each day, we have a different instructor who brings "their own game" to the table (or the bike you can say). You can ride as fast or as slow as you desire. It's all up to you, and you only. My theory is, it you aren't dripping wet when you leave, you haven't given it your all. Remember, you can check in and book your classes on line. I wouldn't miss a Starcycle class for the world...happy cycling !!!!!! read more

Overall I got a great burn and workout. However, the instructor was slightly offensive. Went around the room calling people out who weren't doing her exact instructions. Not in a productive or instructive way but more punitive. And she also accosted a women for having her cellphone. Overall not a welcoming environment and I cycle at other facilities 3+ times a week. It was also dark with no ventilation. The mirror was completely fogged up with the breath of 20 sweaty people. So if your looking to get a great burn on and also possibly contract the flu this might be your jam. read more

I absolutely love this workout! I am the type that will never push myself on the treadmill or even in a typical indoor cycling class but this is different because it is such a blast! The music, the energy, and the workout are all awesome. Starcycle was an excellent idea. I liked going to the gym, but I needed a longer cardio workout. Once I started taking classes at Starcycle, going on long bicycle rides and runs are so much easier, I push myself more than ever, because I know what a good workout can feel like. I usually go to another studio in town with a similar format, but am always open to trying new things, so I bought a 3 pack for Starcycle. The studio was nice and clean and the instructors and front desk people were always very nice. I don't have kids, but there is childcare for people that do. I just didn't feel the classes were that challenging to me. I routinely do 25-40 mile road rides, so my indoor classes really need to push me. The classes here felt a bit disjointed, as the instructors that I had, didn't really give us much of a countdown to changing the routine. I am used to classes where everyone is on the same beat, like a well-oiled machine and really pushing each other to try harder. I didn't feel that same togetherness and energy at this studio. I do like that Portland has choices when it comes to different studios. This one just wasn't right for me. read more
