The Freedom State - My new dress!! =)

*BEWARE* I ordered a sale item dress that took a long time…read moreto arrive in the mail (postage at my expense). The quality of the garment and fabric was inconsistent with my experience of the label purchased (I own a few from the brand from recent years) and I was unhappy with the dress. There was insufficient information on the listing for me to know that the fabric being used was very different from their usual standard of rayon, the pictures provided gave no indication of the fabric either. For me, the item did not meet description. I wrote to The Freedom State requesting the ability to return the item, as they do not usually accept returns on sale items as per policy. They wrote back with a stock standard response, refused to take back the item. Offered 10% discount on my next purchase, which is useless because I won't ever purchase from them again when there are so so many other online retailers that care about customer satisfaction. The Freedom State = online order fail. I'll be shopping elsewhere in the future.

BE WARNED, boho ladies, and STAY AWAY. Especially with shoes!!!…read morePossibly, when everything is fine with your order, you're sweet and happy. But this is not your regular, perfect customer service place. Oh no. Despite the expensive brands and lovely website pictures. Shame I cannot add pictures of the expensive ($169), popular Chicko boots, which I bought late Sep 2018. After just 5 months, the heel completely opened up, showing some weird paper material inside. This happened after just 5 months of occasional wear (as over the summer in Sydney, so I wore them REALLY sporadically!). End of story: The customer service at the Freedom State is terrible - they emailed back saying that they won't refund/replace, neither did they offer to repair the faulty boots, just suggested lightly that they'd pay 15$ towards the PARTIAL cost of the cobbler's services!!! Part of me was amazed at this brazen unprofessionalism. The shoes that won't even last a whole season with very light wear? Judge for yourself!

This would have to be one of the most beautifully preserved arcades in Brisbane. With it's olden…read moreday atmosphere, you'd expect the shopping there to be a little but classier, a cut above the rif-raf out on Queen Street, but I find it a bit pretentious, particularly the upper gallery. Looking in jewelery stores up there recently, I felt very alienated by icy shopkeepers. Also, there's quite a few empty stores up there which makes me think businesses might struggle up there. Down the bottom is more lively, with a lovely tea shop, selling a large range of tea pots; jewelery stores; and bridal shops. With the exception of the cheap and nasty accessory store, Colette, at the Queen Street entrance of the arcade, the shops in here require you to have money to spend (or at least pretend you have money to spend). Best not to rock up in your Havianas--it won't help things with the already snooty shop keepers.

I love this arcade, I wish every arcade in Brisbane was like this…read more The architecture has a renaissance feel about it that makes you feel like you have just stepped into old European hotel lobby or opulent castle foyer. Its the sort of place most people probably go to look and admire rather than shop but in saying that it is home to some of Brisbane's most awarded retailers especially if you are after jewelery or bridal wear. If you are looking for a unique gift or something for the person who has everything this place is your treasure trove. I particularly love looking at all the beautiful time pieces in the Vintage watch shop and pens right next door.
