Regardless what the other reviewers say... this is the BEST DONUT you'll ever eat. Came out from Vegas on business and stopped in by a fluke. Was amazingly delicious. So soft and fluffy with the right amount of sweet and buttery goodness. I've tried a bunch of top notch donuts in LA, Houston, Denver, Vegas... and this hole in the wall shop is by far the best ever!!! Definitely give them a try. I think I've found my new favorite donut shop, too bad I live over 2 hours away. I was headed out to the river for the weekend and we decided we wanted to grab some donuts on our way and Barstow was the last full size town before we made it to our destination, so we typed up donuts in our navigation and just chose the most convenient location. No thought went into our decision but it was the best decision we could have made. We ordered a bacon ham egg and cheese sandwich, a banana cream donut, a bear claw and a maple bacon. The bear claw was oily, but the filing was awesome, so I'm hoping it was a fluke. The banana cream wasn't overly sweet and the maple bacon was perfect. What I also really appreciated about these donuts is they were slightly smaller than what I'm used to but I'll take that as a plus - they didn't leave me feeling stuffed or guilty or in a sugar coma. The breakfast sandwich was the winner of the meal though. It tasted so good, the croissant was warm and flaky, it was perfect. We've already decided next drive up, this is where we are getting breakfast. read more

On my very first road trip with my kids back in 1997, my car broke down in Barstow, if I called my husband only 130 miles into the trip and told him the car broke down I would have been told to come home. I had to get my car fixed somehow. Barstow is an ugly dry and miserable place but the people are very caring. I got my car fixed a homeless man living at the Rescue Mission fixed it for me and when I offered to pay him he refused and said he would take me and my kids to dinner and if we would have dinner with him that would be his repayment. So this man who spent the day in the desert sun took me and my kids to his Rescue Mission for a free meal. Not a thing I ever planned to do in my life but it was an interesting and educational experience and some of the food was actually not horrible. While my car being worked on we had donuts at Sunlight Donuts they were very affordable and something about the dessert air makes them stay crisp and fresh. a decent variety I have been stopping there for many years now. Sometimes I buy an extra dozen or two and give them to the homeless people hoping it will brighten up their days and repay the kindness once shown me. The crullers here are to die for. I've never had better crullers anywhere else. I'm from the OC area and whenever I drive to Vegas, I stop by this place to pick some up. I also recently had their quarter pounder burger because I needed a quick lunch as well, and to my surprise it tasted pretty good for the price. The workers here are also pretty hard working and provide fast and efficient service! I got to know the owners of the place while I was here and they wake up super early in the morning to make fresh donuts and the quality of the donuts are definitely reflected by the effort they put into them. Looking at the reviews that didn't post, this place could've had a three and half star or better. It's actually great. Yes the location is sketchy, but so is 85% of Barstow. When I used to live in the area and this place was my go to for a morning donut and orange juice. The french crullers are my favorite. People are saying that they run out of donuts, but realize they bake it fresh in the morning and that's all they sell for the day. Donut shops generally do not bake again until the morning because its a long process and would crowd up the back where workers are and plus it would leave a lot of leftover donuts. Honestly, I prefer a fresh donut in the morning than an old one made from the day before. They aren't Dunkin Donuts where their donuts aren't frozen and baked to serve; they're like any regular mom and pop donut shop where they make it from scratch everyday. A plus if you're on a roadtrip to Vegas this place is a good snacking spot to stop. read more
