Folks at the front desk were super helpful, friendly and warm; they were totally cool especially dealing with a newbie such as myself. For the past 3 years I've been wanting an american traditional piece in tribute to my father, a clipper ship to be more exact. My artist Dylan Christensen nailed what I've had in my head for the past three years, and even spiced it up a bit with a thunderbolt which was awesome. The shop is a good size, 2 chairs up top, and 4 more downstairs. I have gotten work done by Richie, Kyle and Dan and every time I've been blown away with them. Also the shop is very clean, which is huge for tattoo parlors! The shop is now completely digital so checking in is super easy. I had my tattoo planned for a while but was very nervous going in. My cousin had been here previously so we decided this is where we would get it done. We called the day of and they said that they had time so we should come on in. When we got there we described what we wanted to our artist Kyle, who then went to draw it up. The girls took our information and we signed our waivers. The shop was actually pretty awesome. It was spotless and decorated with pictures of celebs and their tattoos. There were small open rooms where each artist was working. We went back to kyle's room and he should us our design. It was perfect, yet small and simple. He explained everything to us and then started. Afterwards, he covered that tattoo and gave specific maintenance instructions. The shop minimum is $80... a little high but worth it. Kyle also explained that we could come back for a touch up if necessary which was nice to know. Overall I was extremely happy with the service and cleanliness. I went in last night to get an estimate on a tattoo and some design help, little did I know they were going to do it right then and there! First let me start by saying the 2 young ladies at the desk are SUPER friendly and helpful and just great to share conversation with. They are excellent! They introduced me to Dan who did a fantastic job on my tattoo, I am in love! I wanted something that meant Mother / Daughter as a gift to my mother to show how much I love her. Dan took that idea and turned it into something very beautiful that she and I both love and I will definitely be going back for some additions to the piece. Really disappointed with starlight. I usually go to pleasurable piercings and now I know why... went on a whim to starlight for a double forward helix. Got pierced and went home then realized the placement was really bad (picture) so I went back and had her repierce the smaller stud closer to the bigger one. It's been months now and still not healed at all- and I heal fast. Upon going to pleasurable piercings today to ask about jewelry, I asked them to see how the helix's are coming along. The people at pleasurable told me they were BOTH pierced on a slant, and can never heal that way especially with the long bars I had. Why would the piercer not admit her mistake upon me going back to get the placement repierced???? Ridiculously unprofessional or not knowledgeable on how to pierce. Either way, I had to take BOTH studs out because they would have never healed the way they were pierced. $120 out the fucking window, thanks starlight Update: went to starlight and complained and they did literally nothing!!! Did not even admit the mistake... no refund, no nothing. Just offered to pierce 1 out of 2 again when it heals. Hell no!!!!! read more

I got a tattoo here six years ago. When I made the appointment I included a reference photo and specifically asked for it not to exactly match the photo and that I wanted a few things different. It was just a rough idea. Came in for my appointment and Richie had literally traced the photo. I should've left then and there but I was too set on getting my tattoo that day. It came out alright but I wish he had reworked it into something original like I asked. I ended up getting it redone by Ian at Shotsie's a few years later and it really pops now. read more

I chose starlight because the previous tattoo shop I had looked at said the tattoo I wanted was not something he could do in the spot I wanted and to switch the spot. When I talked to Kyle I showed him what I wanted and I told him exactly how I wanted it, where I wanted it, and how I wanted my son's name placed on my back.I told him I wanted the script of my son's name to match the previous tattoo I have I have of my other son. When he showed me the sketch I was amazed at how well he listened to what we spoke about and he went over the things I didn't like and fixed them with no problem. He did a great job and I was very happy with how the tattoo turned out. I would let me tell my friends to come here and anyone looking to get a tattoo definitely check this place out!!! read more

Big scam! Went there for a tattoo and show them what I wanted. The person behind the counter saw it and when I asked how much would it be she said it's $200 an hour. The tattoo artist also saw what I wanted . He said I had to leave $100 deposit that will go towards the price when I came back later that night to have it done.. he tattooed me for 1 hour and 10 minutes and after he said that it would be an additional $250 bringing the total now to 350$ ! Plus to top it all off he said I would have to come back one more time so he could finish which would be an additional 150 to $200 !! That's nearly $550 for a tattoo that should have only cost $200 for the hour he worked on me. I called back and complained and they said that it's $200 an hour only if its for multiple hours which was never told to me in the beginning !! Total SCAM !!! read more

I got my tattoo done here by KR while I was on vacation and he was awesome! I walked in on Friday and showed him what I wanted done and he said no problem. I made an appointment with him, to get it done on Saturday. He did an awesome job and I couldn't be happier. I live in Los Angeles and contacted two tattoo artists, and they either said they were not taking new clients or could not do my design (even though it was very simple). KR took his time even though it was a very simple tattoo, and took the time to explain the aftercare process once he was done. I highly recommend KR and Starlight Tattoo. read more

Wow, the other reviewers experiences were the complete opposite of my experience here and I was really shocked reading them. I am by no means a beginner to piercings and tattoos, but this was my first time in Starlight. I am usually a die-hard Pleasurable Piercings customer, but I've had a few bad experiences with unfriendly staff there and decided to try Starlight after reading the rave reviews about their Belleville location. A friend of mine was also in the market for a new tattoo, so we figured we'd stop in and check out the artists' portfolios and the vibe of the shop. We were immediately greeted by Gisella (the piercer) as we walked in the door and she made us feel instantly comfortable and welcome. I've been to a few other tattoo shops that were pretty intimidating, but this was the complete opposite. She really took her time with me, explained everything slowly, step by step, and never did I feel intimidated, uncomfortable, or nervous about her abilities. My nose piercing is healing way faster than my previous nostril piercing and I know it's because of her expertise. She let me sit in the chair for a bit afterwards and she was nothing short of a sweet and easy to talk to. I don't think I will get pierced anywhere else as long as Gisella works at Starlight. I've heard great things about her husband who pierces at the Belleville location as well. My friend decided to return and got tattooed by Tito a few weeks later and her tattoo is beautiful. He did an amazing job and his work was immaculate. He too, was easy to talk to and made you feel confident in your selection and his work. I went to get a custom fit nose ring which looked ok when I got it. After I left and the swollen of my nose went down the ring started to turn around and it was very uncomfortable. I went back and I was told that the piercing is wrong (I got it over five years ago at their place). I told them then they should told me that and not done the custom fit nose ring which is a waste of money. After talking for a while the assistant manager? has agreed to pierce my nose again and not charge me. Well since this is all new for me I didn't realize that when they pierce they use 18G needle and the ring was 20G. It doesn't look good since it doesn't fit. I don't recommend them for piercing unless you know what your stuff. read more

My friends and I have been going to Starlight for (3-4) years now (my last tattoo was done on 12/28/10). I have truly enjoyed the tattooing experience with Galo. When you first walk in you are usually greeted by Andrew (If he's not piercing). It has been my experience in going to Starlight that everyone working there has been very professional and informative. Andrew or the person working the counter takes your information and directs you to an artist for the consultation (you have the opportunity to look through the artists portfolio & cert). I have never experienced any sales pressure, cash or credit card issues, or any other activity that would make me feel uncomfortable. Basically, you go in one day for the consult/price (and leave a deposit) & the next day for the tattoo. As for piercing, my friends and I have walked in, said what we wanted, and got pierced. I'm low maintenance. Im not going to give a 1 star review because the person behind the counter didn't smile at me. I had my tattoo done by TITO and it was my first one. He was awesome. I brought in a picture of what i wanted (Clean drawing, nothing special) he shaded it perfectly and the finished product looked better than what i had in my head. He was efficient and skilled and would go to him again. Pricing was on par with what i expected for what I was getting but you know what they say, when it comes to a tattoo are you really out for a bargain?
