I've been to two shows here over the years - one just before Covid and one more recently. I see other reviews talking about a $5.00 membership, but they must have gotten rid of that because I've never been asked to pay for a membership. The venue is old and full of character for sure, but it is not accessible at all if you have any kind of mobility issues. And it's a shame, because the management does seem to WANT to be inclusive, but they are terribly limited by the physical location. It's true that you walk down a dingy and dank outdoor hallway to get to the entrance, and then walk up a whole bunch of stairs to get to the ID checking station. Then you go in and get to the ticket scanning station. Maybe she was having a bad day, but the attitude from her was really off-putting. When you have a mobile ticket, apparently they can't scan the QR Code if you have your phone in dark-mode. I've never had that issue with any other venue accepting my mobile tickets, but maybe their scanner is different. Anyway, she was really annoyed with me for that. Once inside, there were 3 bars open and the bartenders were all super friendly. We went back to the same bartender each time and she always remembered our orders. As others have said, the washrooms are down a flight of stairs. If you choose to leave while there are still people lined up to get in, you will have to squeeze past them in that same dank alley/hallway thing you came in - There are no other exits (though I'm sure you could use the other doors in the event of an emergency). The slanted dance floor is not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it adds to the quirky character of the old building. This venue gets killer bands in. There's not much more to recommend. There's hardly any place to sit. They don't have much in the way of good beers. Bar gets very crowded with spectators leaning against it. You are not allowed to exit at East doors by stage, so this means a lot of in and out traffic at the ticket gate. People just need to learn some manners. It's $10.00 to park in the nearby lot. Bathrooms are ok. read more

I am being very generous with this 2 out of 5. I came here tonight to see a band play. The band was great. All original songs and I was having a great time until I turned and saw a lady there with a baby in her arms. Thank god they had headphones on his / her head. This is NO PLACE FOR A BABY !!!!!! But I thought it was a bar and no minors were allowed..let alone a baby. How could they let them in ??? Then at the end of the band's set .. a bunch more walked by me. This is a bar and the website says for that room it's 18 years or older.. so who allowed them in . IF an AGLC inspector came in..they'd be shut down and fined. This was my first show at the Starlight Room, and I was not disappointed! In the early 2000's we had the opportunity to see a Matthew Good acoustic show in a very small bar in Lethbridge. We always said we'd love to see him again. So when I saw he was doing a show at the Starlight Room, I snapped a pair of those tickets right up. We arrived early, parked in a nearby lot, and lined up on the sidewalk out front. I assumed the time on the ticket would be the time the show started, but I was wrong. It was the time the doors opened. The line started moving, and we filed in through a long, dark alley, showed our ID (thanks to the dude working who tipped me off that my license was due to expire on my birthday), presented our tickets & received a wristband. The venue itself is a very old and steeped in character with brick walls, a bar on the side, sloped floor to the stage, and a surreal, timeless, secret lair kind of feel. There is extremely limited seating, so be prepared to stand for a long time. I wanted to be close to the stage, so I was ok with it, but by the end of the night my 50+ yr old back was killing me! The acoustics in the room are not ideal, but being in such a wicked venue totally made up for it. The concert was fantastic, and I will be eagerly watching for another opportunity to see a show here. read more

Just left a gig at the Starlite. Went to see The Preoccupations tonight and the music was good, sounds wasn't great. Not sure if it's the room or the sound person. The room is big and I'd say there was 150 people there. It's on a slope so you get a good view wherever you are in the room. Two bars available with a decent selection of booze. As usual you need to get a membership to the Starlite Room which is $5. Which is a bit crap considering you've already bought a ticket for a gig. Anyway, I have the membership now and if there is a band I like playing there, tI'll be back. A portion of the membership money goes to charity so it's a nice gesture and it's valid for 1 year. read more

This is a cool venue for checking out bands. The worst part is the long line down the cavernous, brick walkway between the Starlite and whatever is next door. That was the same issue back in the days when the Rev lived here. Still, the sound is good no matter where you are. I caught Bedouin Soundclash here a few years back and stayed on the bar level. A couple years ago I saw Metric and got right up to the stage and held Emily's hand! Something to be aware of - before you get into the cavernous line previously mentioned, you will notice people wandering around with clipboards approaching people. You have to buy a membership card which lasts a year. It used to be $10 but I think they've dropped it down to $5. You can purchase these cards ahead of time but they are NOT included with your ticket if you're going to a concert there. There's also a sub-bar called the Velvet Underground which is downstairs and they host some shows as well. I haven't really checked that out yet. read more

I visited The Starlite Room for the first time ever this week to attend the first birthday bash for Edmonton Muse magazine. I love the historic exterior of the building, but did not know what to expect inside. There is a decent sized floor, with an upper level. Both levels have a bar, and I found the drinks to be reasonably priced. The main floor slopes down a little, so I can imagine that if it is crowded and some drinks get spilled, one should take care. The stage is big and elevated, and the sound was fantastic - not too loud and pretty clear. I never think having to head down a flight of stairs to get to a washroom in a bar is a good idea, and of course this makes the place not accessible. However, I would definitely attend a show here again, even if I have to buy a membership, the details of which I admit I don't know much about. read more

So there I was...at the Starlite Room. I was nervous about going there after reading all the war stories about the place on Yelp. Horror stories such as having to stand in line in a narrow alley for a long time waiting to get in, expensive watered-down drinks, sticky sloped floors, having to buy a "membership," and limited parking spots, etc. Truth be known, I got lucky. I didn't have to stand in line because I showed up at an oddball time (9:21 PM). You don't need to be lining up hours in advance unless you want to be right upfront close to the stage. Not for me, thanks. Being pushed against a stage by an overzealous general admission crowd while they spill their beer on me isn't my thing. I prefer to stand on the upper level at the back. That way I have free(er) movement and a quick getaway. Remember that the time written on the ticket is for when the doors open, not when the band actually takes the stage. The Starlite Room, like most clubs, rarely post the band set times. They want people to show up early so they'll hang around and spend money on booze. The main act usually goes on at around 10 PM or later. No need to show up at 5 PM unless you enjoy freezing your hole off in a dank alley. Membership Cards!!! - I was already tipped off about their "membership" policy so I was prepared. I paid in change. Heh. As you've probably gathered, there's no real "membership," per se. Just think of it as a cover charge that you only have to pay once a year. Other reviewers have written this but it bears repeating: They don't actually keep track of your membership. You have to have the actual card on you to get in. Oh yeah, you can only buy the memberships at the venue itself on the night of a show. I don't have a problem with the annual $5 fee but this place needs to get in tune with the century they're living in. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to purchase your membership online with an e-card that you can download to your smartphone. There should also be express entry for people who already have their card. That's just crazy enough to work, isn't it? And stop calling it a damn membership. It's a cover charge. The inside of the building looks a lot like the outside. Lots of red bricks. It's an old Salvation Army building and it looks like, well, an old Salvation Army building. I think the stage at this place is higher than it is at Rogers Place or Commonwealth. Another disadvantage to being upfront is that you'll have to look up.... way up Friendly Giant-style to see anything. The sound is okay, not as bad as I thought it would be. Brick isn't the ideal sound containing material but if they were to pad the walls it would compromise the historical aesthetic of the building. Drinks? I didn't drink that night so I have no comment. Parking? Once again, I got lucky. There was a spot open on 102 St right across from the venue. The Oilers weren't playing that night so I didn't have to pay. I was able to stash my jacket in my vehicle because I'm too cheap to pay the $3 coat check. I then did the 100-metre dash in the cold to get inside the club. Good thing there was no line. We had a great time here. Had no problem with wait time, yes you do have to buy a membership but it's only 5$. Also that can be used for the member plus a guest. It's a old run down building. Used to be a theatre I was told. The upkeep and or renos are done at a minimum. Perfect place for a rock show! It's a totally dive but I loved it. They had 3 small bars and a beer girl. So getting drinks was not an issue. It for sure seems like they keep it pretty basic as to what they offer for drinks. This is not a place to expect fancy complicated drinks. Considering the decor and atmosphere of this place I am surprised at the drink prices! Too much! I would give more stars if they had cheaper prices. read more

I love going to venues in old historical buildings. This place is certainly that! It's a dark and funky place to see live bands vitiated in the old citadel theatre. Great sounds and just overall so cool. Only drawback is they don't have seating or tables. Although if u go early (like when the doors open) go upstairs and you might get a stool. Site in the right and u have put ur drink in the ledge of the wall. People watching is awesome from up there too. Oh and the drinks are reasonably priced. read more

I love the starlight room. The atmosphere is great for live shows and DJs. The building is basically split into three stages. Starlight is the large main one. Temple is the room facing Starlight, and Brixx is downstairs. Starlight is great for larger shows. Very sweaty, great sound, good stage. I've had some of the best times of my life there. Yes it has a sloping floor. If you're too drunk to handle it you should probably go home anyway... Temple's stage is only big enough for a DJ performance, but it's a very intimate, fun experience. There is a pillar right in the middle of the dance floor which is kind of annoying. Brixx is actually a restaurant, but has a passable stage there too. Sometimes you'll find three different shows going on at once which I think is pretty cool. read more

Claustrophobics beware; this is not the place for you! I was really looking forward to checking this place out for the first time. Sadly, my first impression was not good. We had scored some last minute tickets for a band that was playing there, so we decided to check it out. We arrived downtown, parked, and found the sign pointing us to our venue - the entrance happened to be a sketchy hole in the wall down some stairs into a tiny, creepy, concrete hallway. We get stuck in this hallway and the walls begin to close in around us....just kidding! but it felt like it: add the cigarette smell and rowdy drunk people and you've got yourself a genuine gong show! After about 45 minutes (about 4 minutes before I was about to lose my mind completely) the line starts to move - HOOORRRAAAAYYYYY! Not hooray! To our wonderment, people start turning around and leaving, then returning a few minutes later and pushing though the line; obviously slightly annoyed. We finally catch on that everyone is being sent back outside to PURCHASE a Starlite Room membership card. Not that this was mentioned at any point along the way; nor where there signs indicating this requirement at all - but, we should have guessed?!?!?! So we head out to PAY for our membership cards that we will get ONE singular use out of...nice bleeping try Starlite room: your effort to get me to return is a complete failure and scam! Then we got back in line because people were not overly enthused about letting us through and we didn't want to cause any more drama. What a joke! The band was OK, and the set up once you got inside was actually really cool! I thought I was going to pass out from heat exhaustion, but managed to make it through the entire show. read more

I went here one time to help a friend set up some banners for some stuff he was promoting. The place seemed pretty grundgy. It's not a bad lay out though. It has a stage and then a pretty big dance floor with seating and bars. It has another level which has pool tables and a bar, and this level provides a good view of the stage too. My biggest problem with this place was the dance floor. It slops down, pretty steep. It was really mind boggling actually. I can't imagine how many people have fallen here or if anyone at night even notices. This was the only thing that really stuck with me about this place. I have heard they have some ridiculous membership fee that you must purchase and that lines are always massive. My only advice is watch your step. read more

I like this venue for the bands it gets, but after the last two experiences, I will really think twice about going back. Mentioned by many others, but they have a membership that you have to pay and they do not keep a record. Mine was not filled out accurately, so I don't know it is will work. They have the worst door and line I have ever seen. Last show I waited over 2 hours to get into the door and I had a ticket and membership purchased already! After an hour of this wait we asked if we had tickets already could we go to their other door and was told no. Then once we were already stuck in alley, they yelled out that we could go to that door. Once we finally got to the door, it took much longer than necessary, the security did not seem to know what they were doing and people kept trying to pass through the tiny alley to get out of the club. Once inside, bartenders cannot make basic cocktails, so I had beer. We were standing at the back of the floor and security had propped open an emergency exit to let people smoke. So it was freezing the entire time. The venue in terms of entertainment is good and the events they book are good, but management of the site is so bad I don't know if I will ever go back. read more

Other than how crowded this place can get on a sold-out show, this is a great venue. There's nothing better than seeing a band you love in such an intimate setting. I saw Metric here, when they did three shows in a row, and that was pretty awesome. Peaches was also here quite a few years ago, and she was so amazing and was climbing all over the pipes along the wall. I've noticed the sound is really good here. It's so much better than big venues I've been to where the sound is usually way too loud and muffled. It can get pretty damn hot in here though, so I would avoid wearing layers! I made that mistake once. I do think the membership fee is sort of unfair. I mean, it is a surprise fee to anyone that doesn't know about it. I've avoided the fee as of yet, since I have friends with memberships, and last time I was here, they didn't even bother to check. If you've never seen a smaller concert, I would definitely recommend coming here to see a band. read more

In this update, I recently went to see Paper Kites, whom I have new found respect for as artists and performers. Given my anal nitpicking of performers and live shows, this is saying something. I didn't know them very well and the few songs I heard on the web were nice. They truly don't do the band justice when compared to listening to them live, as their stage presence leads one to feel they are having an experience, not just watching some young folks hammering out a tune or two. The same sound problems presented, lead guitar was too loud, even the lead singer and the rhythm guitarist pulled out their in-ear monitors because they couldn't hear anything over the speaker cabinets. The drum is still over-mic'd, all you can hear is the bass drum. Lead vocals had to battle for attention with the lead guitar, and accompanying vocals may as well have been nonexistent on most songs since no one could hear them anyway. I don't blame the band, their studio work is perfectly balanced, well engineered and recorded and I believe their live work is intended to reflect that as well, just not at this venue. The flood lights need to be shot out with a Dennis the Menace slingshot to put the audience out of its misery. Dark venue, dim lights, then all of a sudden 8 flood lights glare right in your face for... fun, as a waking up device, or a cool effecy maybe? Wth. I ended up spending that entire portion of the song with my eyes closed so I don't go flash blind for the next few minutes because some person thinks it looks cool. Lastly, a new and exciting annoyance that ruined the show, the bar downstairs also has a stage venue. It's literally directly down downstairs from Starlite room. The band downstairs was playing at the same frikkin' time, so while I was listening to a nice haunting ballad from Paper Kites, the other band were entering into a hard rock tune that was making the wooden floor shake. You could hear the bass through Starlite's floor, and since it's not on time with the song playing it became hugely distracting, it's like battle of the sub woofers where my feet feel the band downstairs while my ears are trying to process the band in front of me. Nails on a chalkboard! That was the single most ridiculous experience, two bands battling in the airspace. This is new, Starlite had never had another band playing feet away during one of their shows! Way to ruin a concert. At least with this band and crowd, there was no one spraying beer everywhere and no moshing, so that was a silver lining. Woo-hoo. read more

The Starlite Room is situated on the upper floor of a multi-level bar/club complex. It's the largest of the bunch and features great sightlines and a fantastic soundsystem. Admittedly, I wouldn't have even noticed the "sloping floor" if nobody on here had mentioned it previously, but that may be due to the abundance of people at the show. But a few things could make this place better: 1) Beer on Tap - I don't want to pay $7 for a Red Stripe - I'd prefer to pay $5.50 for a pint of something. 2) Complimentary tap water served in pitchers - I'd prefer not to pay $2.50 for a water bottle. Most similarly-sized venue offer complimentary water in pitchers or coolers 3) Ins and Outs - I like to be able to go from a show, hop somewhere else, and then head back in. 4) Better expectation setting. On New Years Eve, I was a part of a mass of people who arrived around 10:30. While we had tickets in hand, it felt as if we were never going to make it into the venue. Ultimately we did, but the bouncer never explained to us why well over 100 people with tickets were waiting out in the cold. 5) A better organized ticketing and coat check process - It turns out that we were waiting out in the cold because the ticket/id validation process is combined with the coat check process. This whole process seemed to take at least one minute per person, and only about 6 people could wait inside for this validation/coat check. 6) Credit Card or Interac acceptance - I know that my bar tab would be significantly higher if I did not need to pay ATM fees - I don't like carrying much cash around. But I'll still gladly go to another show here. read more

I've been here for live shows, but that long before my Yelpin' days, so this review just focuses on their little upstairs bar called Temple. I came here a few Fridays ago for the soft opening of a new goth night, and i left impressed! The venue is tiny but absolutely perfect for the night I attended. The layout is pretty awesome. The different levels and tables around the dance floor mean that you aren't gonna feel like you're in a tiny room, but the small size means a night with 50 people feels busy and fun! And speaking of fun, their drinks were wonderfully priced! When i went to order a vodka soda the bartender asked me if i'd like a single or double. I decided i'd wear my responsible pants that night and asked for a single... But when the bartender said 'doubles are the same price as singles tonight!' my responsible pants came off and the party pants came on! (Pssh, having a responsible night? Who was i kidding.) read more

Promoter was such a treat to work with. So personable and nice and accommodating. Good turn out on a Sunday night. Locals brought the heat and everything ran incredibly smooth. The Starlite Room is quite a nice venue for live shows except in the winter months. When the weather is cold outside, the Starlite room is initially very cold as well. The drinks aren't very cheap either, but I guess that's what you'd expect of a show. Overall, still go to the show but if you can, avoid planning an event at this venue. read more

The Starlite Room is the latest venue to reside in the same building that housed both the Bronx and the Rev. I've only been to a couple of shows here; when it's a packed house, it's great; when it's an empty room, it's a very empty room. But overall the Starlite is a pretty sweet spot to check out bands. As has been mentioned, there is a membership requirement which can be extremely annoying. They don't keep a database of members, so if you don't have your card on you, you have to buy a new one. However I think members are allowed a guest or two; if that's the case, you can always team up with a friend to get in. Downstairs, the Velvet Underground is more my style. It's a smaller, dark, loungey room with a stage for the bands with less draw to perform on. I saw Chromeo here a few years ago and it was great! Additionally, during big shows upstairs, they often have the Velvet open and the concert playing on a big-screen, closed-circuit TV so those needing an escape from the crowds don't miss anything. read more

This night club is notorious, and that's why I stayed clear of it for a long time. Not long ago, I have attended a live concert here, and I liked this place very much. Despite the fact that my friends and I had to endure standing in a mile long line and paying a membership fee which is a total sham, we really enjoyed our night at Starlite. The club is rather big with ample seating area, three(!) bars,several pool tables and a large dance floor. The bartenders were friendly and cool as they were handing us our drinks specials. Compared to other Edmonton night clubs where the floors are soaked with alcohol, Starlite is very clean. The concert we attended was of a Russian band, and I am happy the guys chose Starlite. The sound was great (no stuffy ears upon exit); people had enough place to dance without elbowing each other in the ear, and overall, the atmosphere was great. From now on, I will make sure to visit Starlite whenever there's a live venue going on. read more

I've been to this venue for 2 different shows now and had 2 completely different experiences. Like many people have written, the drinks are pretty expensive, but that's not a huge deal for me since I usually only buy about one, max. I didn't think the lineups would be so long and it is quite unorganized upon entry of the venue, creating incredibly long wait times for popular acts (I waited an hour my second time, even though I already had a membership). My first concert had a minimal lineup, and after waiting only about 20 minutes I had a spot really close to the front of the stage and had a great time. The place looks a little run down but that gives character in my mind. My second experience was when I attended Kodaline not long ago. The reason I give Starlite 4 stars instead of 3 is because of the security guards that were on duty that night. It was actually so ridiculously crowded and HOT in this venue (there is little to no ventilation) that I ended up fainting. So incredibly embarrassing because I'm sure people assumed I was wasted or something. Anyways, upon fainting, a security guard actually picked me up off the floor and carried me to the back of the venue, sat me down, and gave me a bottle of water. He then sent a few people to make sure that I was alright and didn't need medical attention (which I didn't but hey the gesture was nice). I know plenty of places that would have just kicked me out for falling over under the assumption that alcohol was involved. I really appreciated what that guy did. To get to the point, its hot and squishy and the lineups are long but bottom line is this place attracts AMAZING acts. I'm sure I'll be back. read more

Came here from Calgary for MGMT back in May, 2013. I didn't understand the point of having to become a member just to be let into the venue for one night to see a show that I had already paid for months in advance. That process wasn't explained when booking the tickets and was confusing when we arrived at the concert because the staff rudely assumed we knew what it was. It was an utterly redundant process since we were from out of town and only there for one night. Overall the venue wasn't what I was expecting. Not terrible, just very sub par like most Edmonton venues/clubs. The staff didn't seem to care about my friend who drank a little too much and wanted to sit down for a minute. They told us to get up and move from the stairs, which is understandable. When we found a table and chairs they told us to move because they didn't want my friend passing out on the table. They could of offered some water or fresh air instead. We left halfway through the show. read more

I hate the Starlite Room. I know I shouldn't. I should merely say "it's not my style" or something generous and forgiving, but I actually loathe this venue the same way I hate brussel sprouts and small dogs. I've been here a few times, but the worst was the first when I had buy a "membership" in order to get in -- and this is BEFORE you pay cover. When I revisited the club later, I didn't have my membership card with me, and because they do not keep track of these things in any semblance of an organized fashion whatsoever, the suggestion was that I buy ANOTHER. Um, no. Luckily one membership counts for two people, so my friend got me in. And by "in" I just mean through the first line, because when I got to the door I had to pay $16 cover for entrance. Because I only had a $20 bill on me, this meant no beer for Bridget the rest of the evening -- not exactly my idea of a good time. Inside, the room is utterly ridiculous with it's stupid sloping floor. An angled base is probably the last thing you want to put under a dancing, moshing crowd, as everyone including myself, will regularly lose their balance about 100 times in one evening. Additionally, Starlite Room attracts a rougher crowd than I'm used to and plays some pretty hard music, which was intimidating and probably caused long term damage to my hearing. A guy with a mohawk stepped on my foot (undoubtedly because of the stupid sloping floor) and I ended up losing a toenail. Me & my remaining 9 toenails ended up leaving at intermission because I just couldn't believe I actually paid money for such a horrid time. Starlite Room, you suck. read more

I want to start this review by saying that I do genuinely appreciate any venue that contributes to the live music scene in Edmonton. That being said, not all venues are created equal. There is nothing remarkable about Starlite Room other than the fact that it's one of the few smaller venues that's still left. The venue itself is pretty grungy and run-down looking with a weird slope on the floor in front of the stage that tends to get a little uncomfortable if you're standing for awhile. It's very central, which is nice, but the downside to that is that really the only parking that you can find around the venue, if you decide to drive, is paid parking. Starlite charges you $5 for a "membership card" that expires after a year, and must be present with you at every show that you attend there. There's also a $3 charge for coat check, which is really the only place to throw a jacket unless you're planning on holding onto it all night. The beer selection was boring and overpriced. The closest they had to a craft beer from what I could tell was Mill St. Organic, which I love as much as the next girl, but it isn't worth the $7 price tag. The acoustics at Starlite are pretty good most of the time, but can get a little spotty. All-in-all Starlite isn't a bad venue to hit up if your favourite band is playing, but I wouldn't make a point of going just to hang out there. The Starlite Room certainly don't go out of their way to advertise the fact that you need a $5 membership card just to get in to the venue, regardless if you have a pre-purchased ticket or not. In fact, it didn't say anywhere that you needed to purchase a membership BEFORE I bought a ticket, nor did it state that fact ON the purchased ticket after I purchased it. I find it petty and misleading and it left a bad taste in my mouth when I was told at the door that I would have to purchase a $5 membership just to get into the venue. When you sign up for a membership card the club DOES NOTHING to keep your confidential sign-up information confidential, since they have a sign up sheet just sitting there for all to see with all your personal information right there along with everyone else's personal information available for everyone else to see. Anyway, I paid the $5 membership fee and received a paper card in return. After that I was frisked by a security guard. At least they didn't scan my ID (I would have demanded ALL my money back if they attempted that). I went into the club and was just looking for a place to sit down and have a good cold beer and watch the bands, since I just got off work and was tired and wanted to get off my feet. They don't have beer on tap, just bottles, and a pretty limited selection at that. No prices on beer or drinks were posted anywhere at the bar so I just ordered a bottle of Heineken. The bartender popped the cap off and said "$6.75". Yup, $6.75 for a bottle of Heineken. After a loonie tip, I looked for a place to sit and couldn't find one, even though the venue wasn't even very full. They just don't have many tables and chairs. I kind of wandered and found a place to stand and gulped my beer down. I asked the same bartender for a cheaper beer, and was told Lucky was $4.50. It's a REALLY CRAPPY tasting beer, and it TOO was WAY OVERPRICED, but I bought it anyway, since I didn't want to leave this venue completely broke. I was thinking about buying a ticket for another show I want to see there that's coming up pretty soon, but I'm really thinking that I'll pass on it.... The Starlite Room is not much more then a hall that hosts some pretty good bands and serves OVERPRICED bottled beer in a rather uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment. Oh, by the way the 'dancefloor' feels like you're standing in a sinkhole, because for some reason it slants on a steep angle down from the stage, so you have to tilt your head way back to even see the band on stage. However, It'll have to be a musical act that's on my 'MUST SEE' list before I ever return to this unwelcoming and uncomfortable overpriced venue that rips customers off. And I'll probably sneak in my own booze to avoid the overpriced and shitty drink selection. read more

Last night I was as the Starlight room for Walk off the Earth. They were great. The hospitality of your staff was absolutely garbage. Rude, rude rude. Your staff dismissed the importance of getting medical attention to the girl who fainted in your 1 hour line up outside in frigid temperatures. The 'lovely' lady scanning ID's and chatting everyone up, slowing down the line while everyone just wanted to get the hell inside, said that 99% of the time people who pass out are wasted, and the other 2% are drug addicts. Wow! She's a smart one. Your staff was un prepared and untrained for any kind of emergency. I tried to order a glass of red wine (heaven forbid) and was given a sarcastic smart assed comment by the little asian male bartender in the back bar about wine going bad because only people over 30 order it. I'll bet over half the people there last night were over 30. I know I shouldn't expect much because it is a bar, and the majority of staff were young kids with no sense of respect. I just felt the need to say something because it is really disheartening to go to a place like the Starlite for a nice night out and being treated like crap. read more

My friend had drank too much and I helped her out of the bar and as I did I got pushed and yelled at by security who accused me of trying to assault her. I was threatened to be punched in back of the head among other insults. I am mainly frustrated that by trying to help a friend I was accused of being a pervert and verbally offended. If anyone reads this just know I am coming from a place of frustration and honesty. The security was so aggressive and biased that I was put into a spot of no self defence. How dare a business hire and back someone who belittles and segregates people and makes paying customers feel like an absolute fool. I am embarrassed and ashamed that I was made to feel unsafe. We had VIP tickets to see Cradle of Filth, everything went off with out any problems. We were supposed to have our ID and tickets for proof of payment and all that (which we did have). They weren't checked at all, even though it was said that we needed both. The hole VIP process was really well organized, but I also think that was due to the crew not the venue. Then we got kicked out until the doors open, we didn't get to be at the front of the line or anything. The show started 2-3 hours after the VIP. When we got back we were about in the middle of the line. No one asked about VIP (we weren't told about a special time to come back to get in, and nothing was in the email for VIP) we waited for 40-50 mins. When we got to the front my friend couldn't get in, but I did, they saw my VIP bracelet, took my ticket and didn't stamp my hand or give me a new one, let me in without even patting me down, I grabbed my friend a merch hoodie and passed her the hoodie in front of all the workers by the door. Turned around and they wouldn't let me back in. Said my name wasn't on the VIP list, which it was when we got in the first time!! Went to the back of the line, waited for another 30 mins, talked to the lady asked for my friends name and my name and she couldn't find either. So I left because I was NOT going to pay for a concert twice. I am not from Edmonton, someone should have told me there was no walking out with out being let back in.
