Beautiful place to just get away and relax. Perfect for photography. We needed a quick get away with fresh air and social distancing. I'll definitely visit again!

We were headed to Woodbury when we noticed this beautiful red mill house and the waterfall off of Highway 85. We had to stop for pictures! So glad we did. It's a small park with beautiful views. I tired to yelp this park with no luck! Even google wasn't very helpful! I finally found information off the site I listed while making this listing on yelp. I am not sure if the address is the actual address to the park....But it's the closest! You really cannot miss this place! Google the address and you will see the red mill house and the waterfall. The scenic Starr's Mill Park was featured in the movie Sweet Home Alabama, starring our Reese Witherspoon, as well as being the most photographed sites in the state of Georgia. WOW. I can see why! It's so most historic and picturesque. The waterfall is more of a dam. It is wide but not too high up....It's a fairly small place. The Fayette County Water System bought the Mill in 1991 so that the dam could be used as an additional water source for the city. But it's still opened to the public! You can sit at one of the few picnic tables enjoy the view and even fish (Georgia Fishing and Game rules enforced). Swimming is not allowed! I wanted badly to enter the historic mill house but it is closed to the public. This place has a long history. The mill house was built sometime in the early 1900s after the earlier mill house was burnt down. Hours: 6:30am to 6:00pm EDT or 6:30am to 8:30pm DST. Bottom line: if you are in the area you should check this place out and take the most amazing pictures ever! By the way... It's free!

Great little place to stop to shoot some photos. Not a lot to do there but the scenery is pretty. Snapped off a few shots and moved along.

(Southern Conservation Trust) I visited on opening day, August 13th, 2016. This expansive nature area has many features. There's hiking, geocaching, fishing, canoeing and more! I even remember seeing a landscape painter stationed quietly along one of the hiking paths. Fayette county is really expanding. After Pine Wood movie studios moved in, things have been growing rapidly. The timing was perfect for creating a nature area. "The Ridge is a City of Fayetteville public green space project. After years of desiring to develop the nature area, the City engaged Southern Conservation Trust to develop and manage the public use nature area."(Southern Conservation Trust) "Over 200 acres of the 308 acres of the Ridge that are not wetlands were clear cut in the 1820's, and farmed up to the mid 1960's, with only a few patches remaining of "old growth" trees or vegetation." (Southern Conservation Trust) After hiking along some of the trails, you can tell the land used to be farm. There were left over tree houses, metal barrels (stills), rope swings & places where cows rubbed bark off trees and waded in the shallow creek. I went by myself because on opening day there were many people there & I felt safe. I'd never go by myself on a day unlike opening day because the park is very expansive. You can be by yourself for hours- if you'd like. This park would be perfect for a group hike & picnic. I'm happy to have this green space set aside in Fayette County especially as our county grows expansively.

I came back to enjoy this beautiful park because it held such great memories for me. It is Labor Day weekend and there were 2 other cars in the parking lot. I left because I didn't want to have to pay a hefty fine if the park ranger came around. It's a shame really. Charge a day use fee, but allow others to enjoy the park as well without having to pay such an exorbitant fee.

My BF grew up in the area and says this new park/lake has all of the fish that was once housed in Line Creek Parks lake. Long story short it sounds like the two lakes got combined and is now a bigger better lake known as Lake McIntosh. I believe the park opened in July 2013. The entrance that we used is at the end if TDK Blvd and I believe the complex was called Southpark something :-) . It's a 1-2 minutes from the PTC Airport. If you blink you will miss it so be on the lookout. Turn off Joel Cowan Pkwy onto TDK Blvd and get your $10 ready! There is a paved walking trail, restrooms, a gazebo, benches along the trail, a playground for the kids and much more! You can dock your boats here too. Fishing requires a GA Fishing permit. There is a $10 park entrance fee if you are NOT a resident of Fayette County. You can bring your pets as long as they remain leashed and of course you should make sure to clean up after Fido or Kitty! This is PTC so you have the option of jumping in one of the family Golf Carts (Apparently you can rent them as well) or your Automobile to get there. There is parking there for both. Unfortunately, we took the golf cart because I wanted the experience of riding around PTC in a golf cart. Of course, it was a scorcher that day. Now, my Father told me often times that you should learn something new every day of your life. On this day,I learned to ride around PTC in the damn truck when it's 95 + degrees outside! I would have given a 5 Star but I need proof that there are fish up in the spot first and there is NO SWIMMING ALLOWED! ***We visited again in mid December 2015 and were happy to see that the fish are finally ready. We will be back to see how well we do once our boat is done with repairs.

Initially we parked in the wrong lot but that worked in our favor (where the bait and tackle shop is). There were lots of families out having picnics and fishing. We did a 1-mile loop in the area and were able to see the yurts. NOTED . Beautiful sites to take in before we ventured to the main lots with the visitor's center. Not only are the trails well marked, but there is ample parking across multiple lots. The attendant at the gate entrance was so kind, welcoming and JOYful! We ventured out on the red trail and it was gorgeous. To my surprise, the trail was full today. It seems that Sweetwater is a populated date spot!!! We saw folks of all ages out with picnic baskets, journals, coloring books, bathing suits ... it was AMAZING! We hiked to the end of the red trail and back, venturing off trail to be clear to the River only once. By far, this was one of my favorite hikes and definitely a place I'll revisit to explore some of the other trails.
