A friend of mine told me about this little charm and told me to go since…read moreat my old campground it got quite boring so I looked online and booked a space in silk stocking (as you can see in the pictures below) and when I arrived I noticed that there is no satellite for phones but I like that because it lets me enjoy wildlife without the doomscrolling of social media (you know what apps) and there is just so much things to do. For example, there's a concession stand that has some fire food and there's Wibits on the lake but for the people how don't want to get their hair wet or go underwater in a lake like me, there is also public lake access for swimming to. There is also peddle boats that you peddle on the lake which give you a good view of the lake without having to rent a expensive pontoon boat. They also have kayaks. And they have peddle carts on land for fun travel around the park but it is VERY hard to peddle on the rocks and feels like if you were to put peddles on a bus. The vibe there is also very good and campfire rings are included with each site though they are kinda dirty so I'd recommend rapping tin foil around food before cooking. The bathrooms do have washing machines and there is a vending machine that is like 50 cents I think and it has washing machine stuff. Just so yall know if your bringing your bike just know that most of the park is rock so it may be a bit hard to ride on. Same with dogs, the rocks may be a bit hard on their paws so just walk them in the grass until there's pavement. Also there is a bigfoots big ride every Saturday night which is a tractor hauling this long wagon with benches in it and it is quite fun. The camp store is well stocked and has some camping must haves like wood and such. The creek behind silk stocking is a great spot for fishing just make sure to release the fish afterwards since they are Austin lake's property. Overall though the park is clean and the bathhouses are nice and they added free water for 6 mins but when I pressed the button it didn't turn on it made this like buzzing sound like it was supposed to be dispensing water but it didn't so I just went in the cabin and took a shower. Also tents are allowed as long as it's just one that is the max.

We just got back from our 2nd visit. The first time, we were in the Emily cabin in the summer,…read morewhich had a huge plot of land and plenty of trees go tie a hammock to. It was a 1 bed cabin that was a little crammed, but managable and still super nice. We made many nice fires and took advantage of the hiking path on site. The second time, we wanted more space to put our bags and chill, so we got a two bed (same price). We went in the winter. I would highly recommend for couples if you don't mind the window cut in half by a bed). It comes with extra seating outside and inside and an extra ledge next to the bed close to the window. This was the way to go. The Carleen cabin was pretty beat up (under sink door didn't close all the way, lots of bumps and scratches, many crayon marks everywhere), so I assume that families take advantage of this style. This plot of land was half the size of the Emily cabin and seemed much closer to our neighbors. The hot water lasted 5 minutes in the shower, whereas the Emily cabin's water lasted for almost 10. What we did enjoy was the snowy walks on the trail, the view was better from our window/wildlife was more active, and we were able to make a fire on one of the days. They provide salt for the stairs so you do not slip. Adding on late check out is a must, as is taking advantage of the "provisions" inside the cabin for an extra charge and the firewood/fire starters outside. You have to put away all technology while on your site to get the most out of the experience, though I would recommend bringing an alarm clock. We always feel relaxed and closer to nature coming, and will be back to experience each season at Getaway (it's Postcard now, but we still call it Getaway)!

I…read morewas a little skeptical when hearing there was a free campground in this state forest but the reviews seemed really good so we decided to make it a stop on our way to West Virginia. The road to get to the campground was winding and very dark but when we arrived we saw a beautiful campground with paved spots. There are no amenities with only a vault toilet and water pump. Still the sites were nice and large. You pass several shooting ranges on the way to the campground. There is also a trail that loops around the campground.

Here are trash bins, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site, plus a well-blazed trail edging the campground. There are pit toilets in the center of the ring that do smell like free campground pit toilets, but they are far enough from the campsites that you'll be okay even on a hot summer day, especially if you're a ping with a self-contained unit. Our site had a great mix of field and tree cover with raspberries or other bramble fruits lining the campground. Hummingbirds, cardinals, nuthatches, and a concert of fireflies were fun to watch. The free part is especially good since there are pigeon, rifle, and handgun target ranges outside the camp loop, and you do hear them even on a Monday. And first thing Tuesday morning. This is a dry campground in every way so bring your own water. If you aren't target practicing, use your red cup and don't act like a rookie. About half the sites were in use the Monday night we stayed. Despite the ballistic sounds, the camp loop was quiet, and we had a very restful stay.

BUT, Bill who is on the voicemail, called me back. He couldn't get me in but went out of his way to help me get an alternate location. He texted me links and was very hospitable. Separately, before Bill called, Sue who's email is on the website made sure she returned my email and reached out to make sure I found a location. I'm rating them for their compassion to care about people . They wanted us to enjoy our family vacation while in their hometown.

We visited the hidden trails winery and enjoyed outside live entertainment surrounded by a cozy garden setting . The winery is a neat cottage with friendly people and a large selection of wines to enjoy. There is also the Bluebird restaurant next to the Winery. The winery is a nice police to relax after a hike on the trails or meeting up with friends for appetizers and drinks.

I received a friendly welcome from Dan immediately upon arrival, He has checked on me throughout my stay and helped me mingle. I appreciate that. I was told he can be a little moody but I haven't personally witnessed it. 2. Looks like at least 50% of the campground are long term older folks, not visitors. 3. Age range is mostly 45 to 70 yo. Don't go there looking for tons of folks in their 20s or 30s, you'll be disappointed. 4. Facility is fairly clean for campgrounds. I personally have higher cleanliness standards but there was nothing too bad. Just don't expect a hotel-like cleanliness, you are out camping! If you are really picky, bring your own sheets, pillows and sanitary wipes. 5. The outdoor showers are really cool. I had never taken a shower in the woods but I LOVED IT. Restroom/showers have no privacy but hey, this is a clothing-optional facility. Being the shy person I am, I was showering early mornings or after dark. 6. Bring your food, water and booze. They have no alcohol license and the nearest stores/restaurants are 8 miles away in Carrolton OH. For the same reasons, don't get there on an empty fuel tank. 7. Overall very friendly atmosphere Everyone talks to everyone. I met more people than I will remember. 8. WIFI signal is spotty depending on what part of the property you're on. Don't count in it to do you work/school assignments. 9. Print or save directions. You will loose cell phone signal. My car GPS did fine but if you're counting on your cell signal for GPS to find your way there, beware. 10. The Saturday night foam party was a LOT of fun. I had no idea what was happening under the cover of all that foam...I thought people were just dancing. So why only 3 stars? There is a CONSTANT SCEPTIC TANK SMELL in the indoor showers & restrooms. It's not overwhelming but it was strong enough to cause me to avoid using them. It's frankly gross. All in all I would probably go back, but not before visiting other campgrounds to get more perspective.
