The best BBQ I have had and I am from the south! We tried the Full Texas (has all of the meats) with the potato salad, mac and cheese, cornbread, and a lemon curt tart. The tart was tangy, bright, not too sweet, and the bottom wasn't soggy at all. Excellent! As for the BBQ, all of the meats were so smoky and melt-in-your-mouth flavorful! I wasn't expecting to like the chicken, I typically go for brisket, but the chicken stole the show. It was moist and so full of flavor! Definitely my favorite! Closely followed by the brisket, then the ribs, then the pulled pork, and last, but not least, the chorizo/sausage. I also really liked the chimichurri sauce as well as the addition of pickles and pickled onions. They paired really well with the BBQ. I preferred the golden bbq sauce a over the classic bbq (sweeter and too smoky for me). Honestly didn't love the mac and cheese. It was a bit bland and would not recommend or order this again. However, the BBQ and everything else was so good that it makes up for the faults of the mac and cheese. Cornbread was solid- on the crumblier side and not sweet at all. I prefer my cornbread sweeter, but this was still good cornbread. I was pleasantly surprised by the potato salad on the other hand. I don't like potatoes in general because I find them to be too bland and chronically underseasoned. Much to my surprise, I rather liked this potato salad. I loved the addition of dill and green onions. This was really good with the BBQ. The interior is a bit lackluster and the building is unassuming. State Eatery was our final stop in the Finger Lakes before starting the drive home to Baltimore after spending the Fourth of July weekend in the area. We were sad to leave, but State Eatery was a great goodbye meal. It's a bakery, bar, and BBQ spot and a really cool space. We were there after a hot, sweaty hike, and ready for some BBQ. Their menu is both classic and eclectic, and we decided to share a little classic BBQ and a little less classic BBQ. We shared the Brisket + Chicken plate, which comes with both proteins, two sides, sauce, and pickles. We chose the mac and cheese and smoked pork + beans for our sides. We also got - under their Meats by the 1/2 Pound section of the menu - their smoked beets?! Full disclosure: I'm from Texas. And I have a lot of strong feelings about brisket. State Eatery's brisket definitely isn't what I'm used to or what I'm craving when I order brisket. It was quite dry, I suspect from a much leaner cut than most Texas spots would use (although at home, you're sometimes asked if you want a slice of lean or fatty). If I'm going to eat brisket, I want a fatty slice. State Eatery's was dry for me, but with sauce was fine. I preferred the chicken, which I thought was very good (smoky with a crispy skin without being overcooked or dry inside). I also enjoyed the beets! I'm a fan of beets, but I've never had them like this and it surprised me. The sides were both good, too! The mac and cheese was made with good pasta and wasn't overcooked or too saucy - and very peppery! The beans with smoked pork were great. I also thought both sauces we had were very good. They also have a bar, so we were able to have some brunch-y cocktails with our BBQ. My husband had their Spanish sangria, which he enjoyed, while I - as slowly as I could - savored my Daytripper Spritz (Matchbook Distilling's Estate Grown Strawberry Amara combined with Prosecco and a touch of lemon juice over ice). The service was great, and they offer indoor and outdoor seating. We wished we could have stayed longer - their indoor bar looked like a great place to watch a World Cup game - but we had to start our drive home. This is a bare bones eatery, where you order at the counter, and you clean up after, putting metal trays and flatware in a designated area and throwing away your own trash. However, the smoked meat is so flavorful! I would put this in the top three of all bar-b-q places I have eaten, and I've been too many, many, all across the South, in Texas, in the west and the Midwest and in the east. This is some awesome Q! Only a short 15 minute drive from Ithaca, State Eatery is serving up some top-notch bbq. We had the brisket and pulled pork. Both were moist and tender. The brisket has a great bark and the right amount of fattiness. The pulled pork is great with the Carolina mustard sauce. We also got a half-pound of ribs. They were spot on tender as well, with just the right amount of smoke. The sides were excellent. We got the mac and cheese and potato salad. Both were awesome! Don't sleep on the baked goods. First time trying this place after driving by many times. Order at the counter and food came out relatively quickly. I had brisket and pulled pork with Beans and potato salad. Pulled pork was very good. Brisket was decent. Mac and cheese very good. Potato salad had a lot of dill in it which was fine by me. Beans were good and had some kick. Bbq sauce I thought might be a better steak sauce. Strong flavor of Worcestershire sauce. They give you a little small cup of sauce that doesn't go a long ways, but for me it was enough since I wasn't a big fan of the sauce. Drinks are limited Mexico coke, bottled root beer,homemade lemonade and tea, and a few others that I wasn't expecting at a bbq place. Prices were $24-$38 for platters of meat and 2 sides. Decent portions but maybe on the topside of price. Not really sure if kids would like a lot unless they like bbq. Service and staff were great. Place was clean. Just didn't click with me. We were visiting the area and were so excited for the weekend to arrive so we could try this place out. The place is literally a little garage, so no curb appeal whatsoever but when you get out of the car you are just smacked right in the face with the most amazing aroma you've ever experienced in your life. It appears to be run by a young couple and everything looks absolutely divine. We wanted to buy every single thing, no exaggeration. The woman was very kind and you can tell this is a local favorite and they are kept very busy! We settled on croissants, cinnamon croissants and the bread pudding. I can confidently say (and our entire group agreed) that these were truly the best pastries we've all ever had. Our only disappointment is that we are leaving town tomorrow and we don't have enough room in our bellies to eat more of what they have to offer. After a decade of fine dining, whiskey bars, Italian Prosciutto shops, and everything else between, Sam Walker & Kal Awad opened State Bakery & BBQ to the public in 2020 in the height of a global pandemic. The wife and I aren't in Seneca Falls much, so during a Sauders run, we decided to try to find a place for lunch we wouldn't have the opportunity to otherwise. We came to Yelp and saw the high rating and decided to give it a try. I didn't read into the reviews extremely far, so imagine our surprise pulling up to someone's home that just happens to have a very long line of people waiting from a garage in the back. We thought it was pretty cool that they just decided to make their garage a legit commercial style kitchen. We ordered a BBQ box (pulled pork, brisket, and 2 sides, which we went with double mac and cheese), and a pulled pork sandwich. Little bit of a wait cause there were a good amount of people there, but not too long. There's only a couple outdoor lawn chairs since it's literally in the owners backyard, so they're definitely aimed at take out. Everything was delicious. Meat was tender, flavorful. Their homemade BBQ sauce was delicious, mac and cheese was great. Was a little pricey, but BBQ always is and it was comparable to other places. They have a few breakfast sandwich options (chicken and brisket) and lots of pastries to choose from. All the treats were delicious. There are a few picnic tables aside this garage. I do wish the grass was cut and that seating area was a bit cleaner and more customer friendly. My only complaint is the woman at the counter accepting payment was abrasive. I thought their food was surprisingly delicious for being small and unassuming. We had breakfast sandwiches and pastries. The eggs had so much flavor, I was really impressed because I find that most scrambled eggs at restaurants strike me as bland. The only downside was that the biscuit wasn't really flakey or how I'd prefer, but it was good enough. We also tried the cinnamon croissant, which was sort of like an inverted + flakey cinnamon roll. It was twisted layers of flakey pastry encompassing some cream cheese filling. The other pastries were good, like the cruffins (sort of a croissant shaped muffin) but the cinnamon croissant was probably my favorite. Wow this place is good! Not much to look at (it's basically located in somebody's garage), but boy is the food good. I got a delicious pulled pork sandwich and a couple of cruffins. What's a cruffin you ask? A muffin made with croissant dough. Mine had coconut on top with a cream filling. Soooo good! A little on the pricy side but the food is top notch. My only quibble (and it's a small one) is I wish they had different sizes for the sandwiches. Mine was awesome, but it was also soooo big. Me and my partner were staying in the Finger Lakes area for a few days, and we ate here TWICE! We got the egg & cheese biscuits, one with bacon and one with sausage. The sausage is really delicious. We had a long drive back so I also got the smoked chicken sandwich with roasted peppers, eggplant, and greens on house made sourdough, and wow - this sandwich is the bomb. We got home hours later, I still had the second half of the sandwich so I ate it with some mayo added. IT. WAS. SO. GOOD. I guess if I have any suggestions it would be serving that sandwich with mayo on the bread because it really made it come together. Made a trip to State Bakery + Smokehouse on Sunday morning. A not to be missed barbecue and bakery, with one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have every had. Quality: All I can say is that I am lucky to have stumbled upon this gem on my trip to the Finger Lakes. A small operation that is serving incredible barbecue as well as tremendous baked goods. And the way they combine it, amazing. The breakfast Brisket Biscuit is the highlight of an incredible menu and warrants an early weekend visit. And I recommend you ask for extra pepper aioli, it is what brings it together. The Carolina Biscuit is excellent as well, with housemade sausage, egg, and cheese. Between the fresh biscuits used for the sandwiches, to the excellent meat, you simply can't go wrong with any of the menu. We also ordered Cornbread, which was so moist, and the Sticky Bun, which even cold was incredible. I would return in a heartbeat to try more of the menu, but also get the Brisket Biscuit again. Quantity: The biscuit breakfast sandwiches are large, but they are so good you are going to wish you ordered an extra. Value: $7 for a Carolina Biscuit with Sausage. $7.50 for a Brisket Biscuit. $2 for Cornbread. $3.75 for a Sticky Bun. Ambiance: State Bakery + Smokehouse is located in the Upstate New York town of Fayette. Little more than a garage, it serves up some seriously great food. On a snowy day we entered through the transparent screen to the kitchen area. A small ordering space showcases some of the options available. The menu is just a brown piece of paper, so things they run out of can easily be crossed off. To the left they have a checkout area, but no seating because everything is to-go. Crowd: A constant flow of customers. We ate our food in the parking lot and watched as one by one cars pulled in for their BBQ breakfast. And I also feel like they would be great for large catering orders. Service: Despite a small operation, they are very efficient. The guy behind the counter was quickly constructing and dolling food out to the waiting customers. Parking: Small parking lot in front with about five spaces. read more

This roadside bakery and bbq is amazing. It's take out, they have some stumps outside and maybe a picnic table but it's intended to go. There are maybe 5 parking spots and be careful. Pulling out onto route 89 can be tricky. Everything is delicious. I've had all their offerings and I'm craving a return visit soon. From the brisket to the pulled pork it's full of flavor and love. Breakfast shines IMO mostly because everything is better with an egg on it. The brisket biscuit is OMG GOOD. Only available on sat and sun. The almond cookies. The lemon tarts. The CRAB HAND PIES!!!!
