This is a beautiful restaurant and the setup is nice with variety of booths and tables. I love the personalized touch of cut flower vases at each table. The service was superb with taking our food order, refilling drinks, bringing out a to go box and offering to go drinks. I will say I loved my husband's birria grilled cheese sandwich. It was so huge, flavorful and juicy. He ate half of it there. I was happy with the portion of the chicken fried steak I was given. Since it was stacked on top of the green beans and mashed potatoes it needed some gravy with it. I'm not a fan of it being stacked like this so I asked for more gravy lol They were polite about it. I did like the bacon addition to the green beans. We did enjoy our strawberry lemonade and peach lemonade. That was a nice southern touch. Overall this was a fun spot to dine at. We actually were able to be seated 20mins before our reservation which was really nice. Since moving to Houston, I'd heard a lot about this restaurant. It's well-lit and open. Their menu is massive. I could not decide at all what I wanted, but I certainly appreciated the waitress who were super nice and patient as I took my time before finally deciding on the rodeo style burger.The bread was toasted to perfection. The ground beef had a nice savory combination with the classic cheese and onions. Instead of having the fries, l I chose the whiskey and maple Brussels sprouts as a side, which was the star of the show! This is my second time coming to State Fare just a different location. I can vouch that both SugarLand and Memorial City locations are great service and food. We had Fried Green tomatoes which didn't make the picture. They were one of the best I had. Cooked & seasoned to perfection, not to soft not to hard, jusssst right!!!. The batter also wasn't too thick and was just right. It comes with a crab remoulade on top. My friend got the burger which was huge. It was a lot to tangle with but he said it was great. The portion sizes are good for the price. I had a nice glass of Chardonnay and my guest a table side smoky old fashioned. Great experience from start to finish at this location. Finding parking was easy as the multi-level garage is connected to the strip and free. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. Our server was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and quick to make sure we got our orders in before Happy Hour ended (which we really appreciated!) The prices were on point. There was a small hiccup with the Old Fashioned but they were quick to make it right, and the food was fresh and flavorful, just what you'd hope for from a spot like this. I met a friend here this past Friday- I suggested this spot because I'd been to a different location years ago and loved it. 7pm and the place was nearly empty, which was NOT a good sign. I got the Brussels sprouts and a grilled chicken breast, simple enough. It was mid. The drinks were good though. I was really surprised because the food wow'd me before. We hand seen each other in like five years so we were there to talk for a bit and around 9 or so the fire alarm went off. Crazy! I came for brunch in a Saturday. To be fair, we were a bit difficult as the number of attendees kept growing and we had to change tables. I first ordered the salmon with couscous under the "lighter fare" section. When it came, it was drenched in "cilantro" oil which was really just oil. The salmon was also seemingly fried and very oily. Nothing had any taste whatsoever. For something labeled as "lighter" I was shocked and honestly grossed out by the amount of oil. I requested to send it back and try something else and my request was granted. I believe the manger (or maybe owner as I saw her at the best bites competition) brought out my second item and asked for feedback on the first which was nice. I decided to go full glutton with the birria Benedict since my light choice didn't work. The birria was dry and not flavorful. The waffle underneath was also dry. I doused it in hot sauce and just ate the egg and meat. Everyone else's review of their food ranged from edible to okay, nothing better than that. Their classic breakfast was huge but again the people that got it had nothing else positive to say. The atmosphere was nice and not too noisy but I would not return. The barstool seats have a back and swivel which are worth half a star by itself IMO. Our server was sweet and had such a friendly and warm personality. Our moods were going for "Breakfast Club", which is coffee based, and "la vie en rose", which is vodka based with a sugary rum. My friend especially recommended the jalapeno Hush puppies and the Fried Green Tomatoes as appetizers. I gotta say, both were the highlight of the meal. Both came with great sauces and cooked well. Highly recommend. Our waitress needs improvement. She took our cocktail orders, forgot to deliver one. She took both our appetizers and entrées at the same time, but didn't stagger the dishes timely. So in a moment, we were served 4 plates (2 appetizers + 2 entrees). The entrées were mere warm when we moved on from the appetizers . Our waters were never refilled, unless flagged for her. And let me tell you the lesson when a quick research online would have helped my entrée choice. I asked for the "Be Someone" breakfast burrito. Queso, salsa and usual egg + bacon + hash brown sound like a great combo! Unfortunately, our waitress didn't preface that this huge burrito would be *SWIMMING* in queso and salsa ?!?! This dish sounds appealing and is visually repulsive. I slice it like a loaf of bread. Remember that we had appetizers served together so the covering queso has been hardening a bit. All its ingredients, that are wrapped inside this humongous tortilla, are like the ones you get from continental breakfast in hotels. Does not look like quality, neither does it represent a quality/price ratio of $19.50. I do not recommend at all. Good thing they have parking garage for free. Or Valet if you're feeling fancy. Let me start by saying two things. I've been to the Woodlands location and it was 100000/10. Second, this place is NOTHING like the woodlands one. & I'll NEVER be back to this location. Ever. First impressions walking in, super tacky decor. I'm talking kids birthday party back drop wall (literally) paired with cow skulls, and magic mushroom decorations. It was giving...confused. Anyway, upon arrival the staff ignored my request to check in for our reservation. Twice. Which means they ignored my request I made through the reservation-due to this being a celebratory dinner. We were sat in the back corner at a weirdly long table where you literally had to yell for to be heard. I nicely asked to moved, which clearly annoyed the hostess. We waited forever for the waitress to greet us which was crazy because they maybe had three other tables in the whole restaurant. When she finally came over we ordered our food. We both got the waygu steak meals. Now remember I have been to the Woodlands location and got the same exact meal...and this location should be EMBARRASSED. The steaks came out almost well done when we both ordered them medium. We sent them back and even the second ones (although they came out better) were chewy as hell and 110% NOT what I was expecting and nothing like the other location I've been to. The jalapeño bread was four sad little domino-pizza style bread bites that were hard and gross. The side came out wrong the first time and the second time it was luke warm at best. I was extremely excited to eat here and this was by far the most disappointing experience I've ever had. However, I will say that the manager was very apologetic and did say she was going to use our experience as a teaching moment for her team-which I appreciated. She also sent us dessert as an apology and it was good. The peach pie sangria was delicious as well. & I know all of this may sound harsh but make no mistake we were kind and kept saying thank you the whole time. I am not a "Karen" at all, however I did have expectations and they were not met. If it wasn't for the manager-I would've given this place zero stars. I hope for her sake she gets better staff and honestly, if she has any control over where the waygu comes from, she should switch to a higher quality because it literally tasted like a stake from like, chilis or something. 0/10 would not recommend. That's Stealing. I sat at bar, a less busy brunch Saturday there's no reason for this to happen, whether busy or not. Payments and orders should not be mixed up as a Mistake. As what management said when I explain a 20.00 loss from my account, in which was never authorized by me. She later told me over the phone with communication, "I will refund your money," as they noted a mistake, someone had the same exact amount, but my card was charged a 20.00 tip, from 71.46 with no tip on my card to 91.46, which is fraudulent. Not a mistake in my eyes, when I marked 0 for tip on both Merchant receipt and Customer receipt for the total of 71.46. I left a cash tip, that how it should come out of my bank. Please, people watch your bank statements and what you spend. Time is hard, and money is hard to make. There's no way I would complain about a tip, if I Authorized it. We missed our reservation time, but was accommodated once arrived, we were seated as priority. Which is definitely a plus. Our initial order was delivered with a bit of cooling temperatures. With cold syrup. The only thing that was pleasant was the hash. My table guest didn't want to complain, however the price tag is steep for a hotcake to be served cold with even colder syrup, without any sides. He request to just place it in a microwave, they remade the order and replaced mines as well, and brought out hot syrup AFTER the pancake was delivered, which took some time and 4 different requests to receive. Dined in last night. Kevin was my waiter. He was very kind. Prompt & professional. I could tell he was a little new but he did a great job nonetheless. I feel like the star of the show was the Manager on duty, I should have gotten his name, but unfortunately I didn't. He initially greeted me at the door, with a very inviting welcome. My friend ordered wine and he made sure she had samples to decide on which Rose she would most likely choose. He ran our food and checked on us multiple times. My friend got the gulf shrimp and fries. We marveled on how great the fries looked but they weren't that great. And the shrimp/shrimp batter could be better seasoned. They were crispy and fresh though! Our service was attentive and kind. The server gave great insight on the menu. I was deciding between the steak, pokè, and fish tacos, and he recommended the steak.
