The first was a year ago when we went in to buy a "deck package" Three weeks later phone calls and stopping into the store resulted in "we lost your quote" to "did you come to this store?"and then multiple price and materials quotes by the same personnel. We gave up on them and swore to never go back. I thought we'd give them another try, just to save us time. We're in the middle of a house renovation 1/2 mile from their store, we bought some wood for a deck repair and 2 interior doors My wife ordered what we needed and paid for it that afternoon. They said the order would be ready when they opened at 9:00 a.m. the next day. I arrived at 9:15 and it wasn't ready. The young man working in the yard (the only decent employee they have and he's leaving this week) had to call 3 separate employees, including the store manager on his cell phone to find out where the doors were stocked. The order was taken incorrectly so what was on the receipt was not what was ordered. This is a VERY common problem at 84 Lumber apparently. The gentleman was told (after hearing him say 3 times "32 inch doors") where to get 36 in doors. He climbed a shelving unit and had to hand them to me 7 feet below while holding on with one hand. He could have been seriously injured. OSHA might be interested in practices such as these. This whole process took an hour of my time. It should have taken 10 minutes if the stock had been pulled the previous day as the sales person stated. When I called later that afternoon to say I had gotten 36 inch vs. 32 in. doors I asked if they could pick up the wrong doors and deliver the correct size. The manager on duty said no, not today. So I stopped what I was doing, closed up and put my materials inside and then I drove the 1/2 down the street to the store. There was NO ONE at the store. The "Manager" was busy with his cell phone. They could have used anyone of the trucks on the lot to deliver our doors, but chose not to. I waited another 20 minutes to have the doors brought down and I loaded them in my car. Rude, inconsiderate and without regard or consideration to a customer. NEVER use this store.

Rusty was easy to deal with and no run around. They even took back a few items that our builder didn't use, with no hassle. We also got free delivery of all the materials. (7 miles away) We LOVE LOVE LOVE Duke's Lumber in Laurel. Bear in mind that most of the building materials for our home also came from Duke's (lumber, flooring, paint, kitchen cabinets, carpet, floor tile, bath tile, roofing, siding) Duke's has it all.
